3 Lunch Bunch 11:30 am June 20, 2018 New Day Group Lesson: Mary Hunter Hostess: Rhonda Glenn June 25, :00 pm 2nd & 4th Saturdays 8:00 9:00 am The Refuge Service is one of the main missions that God has given to us as a church to continue to reach people (especially in the younger generations) who need a relationship with Christ, and a church to call home! We are glad to report things are going well. So far the Refuge is averaging weekly. We continue to see new visitors almost every week (had 85 in attendance on Easter), and are seeing quite a few new families who have made FCC their church home. BUT we believe God is just getting started. Please continue to pray that God will use this service to reach more people in our area with the Gospel Message of Jesus Christ, and feel free to invite everyone you know to join us! Contact James McReynolds Sign-up now on the bulletin board in the narthex to be an Early Service Greeter/ Communion Preparer and/or a Late Service Communion Preparer. Opportunities are going fast! See Sharon Engle or John Sheets with any questions. Pastor Josh will be gone June 25th - July 1st while he continues to work on his Doctorate of Ministry. During this week, he will be in class from 8 am - 5 pm at Phillips Theological Seminary in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Pastor Sue will be in charge and on call for anything that you need during that time. While Pastor Josh is gone, please remember to pray for him as he continues to work at being a better preacher and minister.

4 We mailed out 6 Finals Boxes to our college students. Thank you very much for all of the donations! They were greatly appreciated! Annette Goering, Outreach Committee Have you ever passed a Homeless Person and wanted to help, but didn t want to give cash?? The Outreach Committee will be collecting items to make Homeless Kits through June 10th. These kits will contain water, nutritious food items, and practical use items. Suggestions for the kits are: Create Camp For Young Songwriters Calling all budding songwriters! Come learn the ins and outs of how to craft a song. This course will cover a variety of genres including: Worship, Pop, Contemporary Christian, and Singer-Songwriter. June 18-22, 9 am 11 am Ages 9 15 Special Performance Friday at 6 pm at First Christian Church. We will cover song form, melody & lyric, co-writing, and writing for various genres. 5 Debt is a choice. Retail therapy is much like it sounds shopping to improve mood or disposition. The world tells us we deserve nice things regardless of whether we can afford them. With no money down, you can finance a car, charge a vacation or buy a bedroom suite. It is easy to get caught up in buying new things to make ourselves feel better, maxing out credit cards along the way. When the pressure to pay the bills becomes overwhelming, we buy something new to cheer us up. It can quickly become a vicious cycle. As followers of Jesus, we can be free of the burden of debt. Jesus died to free us from all forms of slavery, credit card companies included. Financial imprisonment is a choice. It s a choice to give into the temporary satisfaction of spending instead of the lasting contentment that comes from following Jesus. In Galatians 5:1, the apostle Paul tells the church of Galatia to stand firm and to not be burdened again by slavery. This verse still applies to us today. God wants more for us than financial stress and a pile of bills. Jesus died for us to live in freedom, including freedom from debt. Think About: 1. How have your financial burdens made you feel enslaved? 2. What do you wish you had the financial freedom to do? 3. What steps can you take to get there? Pray: Dear Jesus, You alone can fulfill the longings of my heart. Give me the courage to live in freedom instead of going back to old vices. PLEASE! If you turn the light on, turn it off when you leave. If you turn up the thermostat, turn it back down when you leave. This will help lower our utility bills.

7 The Great Bend Christian June 2018 The Chancel Bell Choir will be performing at the Great Bend Public Library Jive & Joe Summer Series on Friday, June 22nd, from am. This event is open to the public and is for all ages. Come support our bell choir, listen to some good music, enjoy a cup of coffee, and maybe even get a chance to play the bells! See you there!
