Psalm 106:1, 107:1, 118:1, 136:1 Four times the beginning of one of the Psalms says, give thanks to the Lord. That phrase is used eleven times in the Psalms. The writer of the Psalms knew it was important to thank the Lord. The words give thanks are found thirty-two times in the Psalms and sixty-five times in the entire Bible. (It s amazing what you can find on a Bible search web site.) Sometimes we get busy with our day-to-day life that we forget to thank God for all the things He does for us. We for sure want to thank God for the big things, but we can also thank God for the little things in life as well. Just the fact that we woke up this morning, have air to breath, our heart is still beating and we can get out of bed, that and so much, much more. Having a regular prayer time in the morning or evening is important but we can also take time during the day and say little sentence prayers thanking God for the good things we receive from him. Why wait until the end of the day or at a certain time, just thank God right when something good happens. We have a special day coming up that we call Thanksgiving, but everyday can be a day of thanksgiving to the Lord, for He is good, his steadfast love endures forever. Fun for the Family Wednesday Work Group Report for September Listed below are items that have been completed by the men as of Prepared sprinkler system for winter Delivered donated items to the Beacon Mowed and trimmed Faith Builders in November We will be continuing our study of Genesis, with a section called God Destroys and Recreates. We will be discussing the Great Flood, Noah and his family; the story of Abram/ Abraham, Sarai/Sarah, and Hagar; The Birth of the Promised Son, and we will prepare for our Advent study. We hope you will come and join us in our discussion and fellowship. Ron Wood Extending Sympathy to Charlie Springer, upon the death of his grandfather. Austin and Sylvia Stapleton and family, upon the death of Austin s mother. Lora Mason, upon the death of her sister. Virginia Lightwine s family, upon her death October 19, Support the United Methodist Women at their bake sale on November 16th during the monthly Friendship Soup Lunch in. The bake sale will begin at 11 a.m. There will be a lot of yummy baked goods and treats to purchase. This is their yearly fundraiser and they appreciate your support!

3 Friendship Soup Lunch The November Friendship Soup Lunch will be November 16 beginning at 11:30 a.m. and lasting until 1:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall at FUMC. The soup lunch this month is sponsored by the ASP Mission team. The menu will include chili, a variety of soups, desserts, and a drink. Free will donations will be accepted. Plan to bring your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers for a nice lunch and time of fellowship! Everyone is welcome! In addition to the soup lunch the UMW will hold a bake sale beginning at 11:00 a.m. including lots of yummy items! Welcome to the newest member of First United Methodist Church Amanda Widder who joined on September 23, Your help would be appreciated to decorate the church for Christmas after worship on Sunday, November 25th. Holiday Hospitality Beth Lewis, CEO of 1517 Media, blogged about a favorite holiday tradition: inviting over people who d otherwise be alone. Her grandchildren prepared hand-made place cards, wrapped small gifts for the guests and helped cook the meal. Then one year, Thanksgiving happened to coincide with a cross-country move for Grandma and Grandpa. Chaos and stress almost buried the tradition until Lewis s 9-year-old granddaughter asked nonchalantly, Who s joining us for dinner this year? Lewis writes: In the busyness of moving, it hadn t even occurred to me. But, for her, it is simply what our family does! So they extended some invitations, ate on paper plates among moving boxes and had a joyous time. Lewis was proud of her granddaughter for the reminder that hospitality is a value worth practicing and modeling and even turning into a holiday tradition! Veterans Day November 11 The Sunday Morning Explore Christmas Program will be presented during worship on December 9, Let the children prepare your hearts and minds for the Christmas season. Remember those who have served or are currently serving in the military. Tell a veteran or active service member that you appreciate their service to our country!
