6 Alleluia! The Lord is risen as He promised! I want to extend a special welcome to our visitors passing through Spokane as well as those of you who may be staying with family and friends over the Easter break - thank you for taking the time to worship with us. To our Cathedral college students here on a break from studies, welcome home. Easter can be a powerful time to renew the bonds of friendship and to strengthen the ties of family. I trust that your time together will be life-giving and joyful. The Mother Church of our Diocese is a sacred place to worship. Just as our own mothers might welcome us home with loving arms and a holiday meal, so too, we at the Cathedral welcome all those who join us for worship with open arms and the food which we know as the Sacred Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. One of the beautiful architectural features of our Mother Church is the story of salvation written in stained glass and carved in marble. Notice the Great Window of the Incarnation in the east transept. Here we see God s only begotten Son entering into the world to bring us salvation. The carved marble crucifixion scene over the high altar tells the story of His great suffering and death. And finally, the Great Window of the Resurrection in the west transept captures His final triumph over the power of sin and evil. Had the resurrection not happened, there would be no hope for any of us only eternal damnation. And yet, because of His love, we are able to gather today in a spirit of joy and happiness that one day we too may join the Lord in Heaven. Until that time, we continue to journey together in faith thanking Jesus for His goodness and finding nourishment through the Sacraments which He left for us most especially Sunday Eucharist. Even though the festival falls on Memorial Day weekend this year, the majority of the parishioners responded that we should go ahead and have the celebration. Therefore, this year s Corpus Christi Dinner & Cake Auction will be held on Saturday, May 28 th after the 4:00 pm Mass at the beautiful Riverside Place (directly across the street), catered by London s Ultimate Catering. On Sunday, May 29 th, the parish will host our Corpus Christi Festival for families after the 11:00 am Mass.
