4 On Easter Sunday last week the Spokesman Review carried a prominent article on people who are home-bound and unable to attend Mass. This reality is especially difficult for people during a holiday season such as Holy Week and Easter. Sun. Mon. Tue. Wed. Jeff Lewis The reporter highlighted the ministry of our own Sr. Sharon Bongiorno who coordinates pastoral visits and communion calls to all of our shut-ins. Cathedral Parishioner Marie Kehrli was interviewed and expressed deep gratitude for this ministry. Although she cannot attend Mass, she stays connected with our parish through weekly visits in which she receives bulletins and Holy Communion. Moreover, on Ash Wednesday, she received ashes and on Palm Sunday she received blessed palms. The article was yet another reminder to me of how much we are blessed to have such an active outreach to the sick and home-bound of our Cathedral Parish. I am grateful for the work of Sr. Sharon and all the volunteers who assist her in this ministry. I am also grateful to Father Jason and Father Vincent who assist me in bringing the Sacrament of the Sick to our homebound on a regular basis. We can rest assured that people who are suffering with illness and the burdens of age are well cared for by our parish family. 5 Couple to Couple League Natural Family Planning Course A course in Natural Family Planning (NFP) will begin Friday, April 17 th, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes, 1115 W. Riverside Ave., Spokane, WA The scientifically-based Sympto-Thermal method (STM) will be taught in the context of Pope John Paul II s Theology of the Body. Junior Girl Scout Troop 3685 was able to donate 18 boxes of girl scout cookies to include with our sandwich distributions! The people who utilize this important ministry are very grateful for this sweet treat; it is a luxury for many of these folks who have very little - thank you ladies!

6 Scriptural Reflection April 12, 2015 Second Sunday of Easter/Divine Mercy Sunday Acts 4: 32-35; Ps 118: 2-4, 13-15, 22-24; 1 Jn 5: 1-6; Jn 20: The community of believers was of one heart and one mind. For those who practice stewardship as a way of life every passage from Holy Scripture contains a stewardship message. However, today s readings are particularly special in that regard. The first reading from the Acts of the Apostles speaks to the sense of unity and teamwork of the early Church. Our own parishes may reflect this idea that we are one, and that we have a common purpose. One of the great misconceptions of this particular scriptural passage is that it reflects what we might term a sense of Communism. However, as we as Catholics and stewards reflect upon this, we must understand a basic difference. Communism says What you think is yours is really mine. Our faith, our community, and our good stewards say, What may seem to be mine is really yours. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own. This is the stewardship understanding that, first and foremost, everything comes from, is gifted by, and is possessed by God, not by us. In addition, stewards understand that all their gifts are to be shared with others. The key to this entire passage is, nonetheless, that the early Christians regarded people as more important than things. As difficult as this may be for us, that is to what we are called, as well. Guatemala Quilt Raffle Thank you to everyone who bought quilt raffle tickets to support the Guatemala Mission. Our parish had one of the top sales, raising nearly $400! He will be presenting a slide show of pictures to accompany his group's experience in the Holy Land. This will include historical information that was learned, currenttimes information (regarding how the Christians currently live in the Holy Land), and of course how all of that relates to our faith.
