1 O R D E R O F C E L E B R A T I O N f o r The Solemnity of Pentecost The Spirit of the Lord has filled the whole world, and that which contains all things understands what is said, alleluia. (Wisdom 1:7) ENTRANCE T H E I N T R O D U C T O R Y R I T E S Creator Spirit, By Whose Aid LASST UNS ERFREUEN PENITENTIAL ACT I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, (and striking their breast, they say) through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. SPRINKLING RITE If the Sprinkling Rite takes the place of the Penitential Act, the antiphon Vidi aquam is sung: I saw water flowing from the Temple, from its right side, alleluia! And all to whom this water came were saved and exclaimed, Alleluia, alleluia.

And from your celestial home shed a ray of light divine! Come, O Father of the poor! Come, source of all our store! Come, within our bosoms shine! You, of comforters the best; You, the soul s most welcome guest; Sweet refreshment here below; In our labor, rest most sweet; grateful coolness in the heat; solace in the midst of woe. O most blessed Light divine, shine within these hearts of yours, and our inmost being fill! Where you are not, we have naught, nothing good in deed or thought, nothing free from taint of ill. Heal our wounds, our strength renew; on our dryness pour your dew; wash the stains of guilt away; bend the stubborn heart and will; melt the frozen, warm the chill; guide the steps that go astray. On the faithful, who adore and confess you, evermore in your sevenfold gift descend; give them virtue s sure reward; give them your salvation, Lord; give them joys that never end. Amen. Alleluia. ALLELUIA Chant, Mode VI

3 GOSPEL & HOMILY CREED I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, (all bow through and became man ) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate he suffered death and was buried, John 7:37-39 (Vigil); John 20:19-23 (Day) and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. 7 Keys to the Church If you have checked out church keys in the past please return them to the Cathedral Office. The only exception to this is someone who is in a current leadership role for a Cathedral Ministry. Please contact Carolyn in the office if you have any questions. Corpus Christi Flower Festival Additional memorial envelopes for the Corpus Christi Flower Festival can be found at the entrances to the doors of the Cathedral. All donations will be used to decorate the Cathedral Church for Corpus Christi. Envelopes can be placed in the collection basket along with the regular Sunday collection Ministry to the Sick If you or a loved one is sick, please remember to place their intention on the parish prayer line by contacting Jane Schneider at or jschneider@mariah-group.com. In addition, if someone is facing a pending surgery or serious illness, it is very important to contact the Parish Office so that one of our priests can administer the Anointing of the Sick. A priest can come to your house, to the hospital, or meet you at the Church it is just important to receive this sacrament of the Lord s healing. Are there any who are sick among you? Let them send for the priests of the Church and let the priests pray over them anointing them with oil (James 5:14) Knights of Columbus 2nd Sunday Breakfast On Sunday, June 14 th, breakfast will be served after all morning Masses. Please join Rebecca Taylor, a clinical specialist in Molecular Biology, writer for the National Catholic Register, and regular guest on the Son Rise Morning Show, for a presentation on the subject. Ms. Taylor will discuss the practical and moral issues that surround human genetic engineering and what ordinary Catholics can do to prevent the creation of genetically-modified kids. 8 Memorial Day Masses Memorial Day Masses are celebrated at each of the Catholic cemeteries on Monday, 25 th Holy Cross Cemetery: 10:00 am - Mass is outside, or in the chapel if raining. You of all consolers best, Of the soul most kindly Guest, Quick'ning courage do bestow. In hard labor You are rest, In the heat You refresh best, And solace give in our woe. O most blessed Light divine, Let Your radiance in us shine, And our inmost being fill. Nothing good by man is thought, Nothing right by him is wrought, When he spurns Your gracious Will. 10 Scriptural Reflection 24, 2015 Pentecost Sunday Acts 2: 1-11; Ps 104: 1, 24, 29-31, 34; 1 Cor 12: 3B-7, 12-13; Jn 20: Today is Pentecost Sunday, a day called by many The Birthday of the Church. We commemorate the descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles. Easter is the greatest feast in our Catholic calendar, followed by Christmas. However, Pentecost is one of our most significant feasts after those two celebrations. Pope Francis has often referred to the magnitude of the Holy Spirit in our lives. In his first homily on Pentecost he said, Our soul is a kind of sailboat. The Holy Spirit is the wind which fills the sails and drives it forward, and the gusts of wind when it moves more rapidly are the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Although we celebrate the many gifts that were given by the Holy Spirit to the Apostles and the early followers of Christ, we need to be aware that these are gifts given to us as well. Stewardship calls us to use these gifts to benefit our Church, our Catholic parishes and communities. Stewardship also reminds us that each of us has received unique gifts, and without our particular gifts, regardless how small they may be, our community is not whole. The key of course is our openness to receiving and using these gifts. To use Pope Francis image of the sails, we need to see that if our sails are not up, if we are not open to the Holy Spirit, it cannot fill us. When we accept the Holy Spirit and are filled with it we indeed can be fulfilled. 10
