(Psalm 105) ENTRANCE T H E I N T R O D U C T O R Y R I T E S We Gather Together KREMSER PENITENTIAL ACT I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, (and striking their breast, they say) through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. THE LITURGY OF THE WORD FIRST READING Jeremiah 31:7-9 RESPONSORIAL PSALM Psalm 126 Alstott SECOND READING Hebrews 5:1-6 ALLELUIA Mode VI GOSPEL & HOMILY Mark 10:46-52 CREED I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, (all bow through and became man ) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

3 For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. 5 COMMUNION HYMN Amazing Grace SECOND COLLECTION & HYMN OF PRAISE

6 Several months ago we were able to implement a parking plan by securing spaces in the Parking West garage for weekend Masses at 4:00 p.m., 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Parishioners were issued passes and encouraged to park in the garage if at all possible. With the passage of several months, now seems like a good time to evaluate the parking issue and determine how we want to proceed in the future. We have 100 spaces available for each of the three Masses. On average, we are using 10 spaces at the 4:00 p.m., 16 spaces at the 9:00 a.m., and 17 spaces at the 11:00 a.m. We clearly have additional parking spaces that could be used. The Knights of Columbus will be at the doors to the Cathedral after all Masses this weekend issuing parking passes to anyone who has not already obtained one. If you have multiple vehicles, feel free to get multiple passes. The more people we can get to use the garage, the more we will be able to accommodate visitors, potential parishioners, and people who have mobility issues. Please note that there is no elevator in the parking garage and thus the ability to walk stairs is essential to using the structure. The annual cost to the Cathedral to rent the Parking West garage is $15, which is a significant amount of money. Our thought in taking on this expense was that we would pick up additional revenue with additional spaces available on the street and in our parking lot for visitors and potential parishioners. I still believe this to be true but we need to increase use of the Parking West garage which is why we are passing out additional passes this weekend. I will be adding this issue to the Parish Finance Council and Parish Pastoral Council agendas so that we can continue to weigh the benefits and costs of the additional parking. In the meantime, please continue to use the garage if at all possible. Thank you. Asking for the prayers of Our Lady of Lourdes, I remain, Sincerely yours in Christ, Rev. Darrin Connall Rector 6

10 Scriptural Reflection October 25, 2015 Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time Jer 31: 7-9; Ps 126: 1-6; Heb 5: 1-6; Mk 10: Most of us are accustomed to being called Christians that is, followers of Christ. However, the Lord s first followers were not called by that name at all. It was not until many years after His Crucifixion and Resurrection that the term Christian became popularly used. There is a subtle, yet profound reference and statement in today s Gospel from St. Mark, a reading which presents to us the healing of a blind man. After Jesus has responded to the blind man s calls for mercy and healing, and the Lord has told him that it was his faith which had saved him, the Gospel tells us of the former blind man, Immediately he received his sight and followed him (Jesus) on the way. What is noteworthy about this is at that time and for the first years after Jesus Resurrection, His disciples were called followers of the way. They recognized Jesus as the way to live and the way to salvation. (Jesus stated more than once, I am the way. ) Thus, the man became not just healed but a follower of the Lord. Jesus healed the man on His way from Jericho to Jerusalem, where He would be crucified. The man most likely was with Him all the way. Would we be willing to follow the Lord on such a journey? That is exactly what He is asking us to do. 10
