GROWTH GROUPS at Lord of Life As we move out of Summer and into Fall, our eyes are looking forward to new ways in which our church can grow and mature. No doubt many of you are familiar with the concept of Small Groups, but besides the mid-morning adult bible study held between services in the Fall-Spring, Lord of Life has not adopted a program for helping Small Groups thrive outside of church through the rest of the week. That is about to change. Details of how we would like to proceed will be discussed after service on August 8th. We ve decided to name this program Growth Groups to emphasize that the purpose of these groups is to help facilitate a deepening of our faith and understanding, and also a place where we can grow together in love and service to one another. They will be structured, last for a specific duration, and be targeted to areas that are important to group members. So come share your ideas with us on the 8th! Growth Group planning meeting (Aug. 8) GET INVOLVED! Summer Sermon Series: Work Matters Our Summer Sermon Series continues... M. Kelby This book is about Marie Claire, a young French Jew, who lives in a small village in France near the border of Belgium during World War II. Her town is destroyed by the Nazi s and she hides in her grandmother s cellar and is rescued by two Belgium nuns, who have been hiding Jews for transport to Switzerland. Miracles begin to happen after they rescue Marie Claire, and the answers to your questions about this wonderful story is not revealed until the last pages of the book! UPON THE HEAD OF THE GOAT by: Aranka Siegal This is a simple and beautifully portrayed true story about the life of a Jewish family in Hungary from during World War II. Aranka, who is portrayed as Piri in the book, tells stories of the war and how anti-semitism crept into their tiny village, finally engulfing their family and sending them to the ghetto and then on to Auschwitz in May They were liberated on 15 Apr 1945 by Field Marshall Montgomery s 1st Army, and then she and her older sister, the only ones to survive, immigrated to the United States in Memorials In memory of Esther Liardon: Harry and Barbara Dailey In memory of Harriet Rohne: Mr. and Mrs. David Christensen Lucas, Jarvis 08/01 Drake, Travis 08/03 Swanson, Jeffrey 08/04 Kattawar, Michelle 08/05 Stewart, Walter 08/05 Schoss, Tinley 08/07 Covington, Blake 08/08 Parr, Matthew 08/08 Baese, Kimberly 08/09 Caldwell, Douglas 08/10 Creswell, Jacob 08/11 Brown, Rachel 08/13 Moreau, Larry 08/15 Renck, Trevor 08/15 Scott, Abigail 08/16 Friedrich, Gloria 08/17 Parr, Angelica 08/18 Riley, Kenneth 08/19 August Birthdays & Anniversaries Neeley, Charles 08/21 Spilo, David 08/21 Covington, Frank 08/22 Olfers, Joline 08/22 Klinker, Theodore 08/24 Norton, Jennifer 08/26 Lopez, Malcolm 08/28 Krizov, Maxine 08/29 Prather, Gilbert 08/30 Mark and Shari Willenborg 08/01/1992 Mr. & Mrs. Jarvis Lucas 08/11/1979 Mr. & Mrs. Ted Wendlandt 08/12/1978 Mr. & Mrs. Chris Grunska 08/18/1979 Mr. & Mrs. Roger Vaughn 08/20/1960 Mr. & Mrs. Harry Dailey 08/28/1954

We hope so Any questions and willingness to help with this Outreach Ministry Opportunity, please contact Pastor Dave or Glenace Klinker Things I learned on Vacation by Pastor Dave It was a wonderful vacation!! We were blessed to see things we ve wanted to for a very long time. We went to McDonald Observatory in Fort Davis, Texas and saw glimpses of the universe. WOW! We went to the cliff dwellings in Gila National Forest in New Mexico and at Mesa Verde, CO. Ingenuity and creativity of God came together in a very interesting and unique way. We rode the steam train from Durango, CO to Silverton and experienced a whole different world of God s creation in the mountains. We experienced them again at Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs. And we saw how God uses the gifts he gives his people in the beauty of the US Air Force Academy Chapel. So here are some things I learned after all these and more great experiences. 1. I learned that God is even greater than I could have ever thought. Starting out at McDonald Observatory, I caught a glimpse of the vastness of the universe, and God is even greater than the universe. I can t help but ask the question, do we really understand just how great is our God? And as big as he is, that s how big his grace is, and he shows it through the gift of Jesus. So how big is your God? Or, How small is your God? We can never enlarge him enough to be the size he really is. But if we keep him to small, we also have a tendency to keep his grace and love to small. (continued) Food Contributions to Hill Country Community Ministries July collections: 110 pieces Let s keep it going! REMEMBER IN PRAYER THOSE WHO ARE SUFFERING FROM ILLNESSES: Ruby Ivy, Fran Hendrix, Junette Gowen, Alberta Otto, Dot Harrington, Ella Symank, Lynsey Thurman, Angie Parr, Gladys Soiseth, David Spilo, Joy Warriner Vada Bockhorn, Robert Sopronyi, Diann Sowell, Deb Durling, Cindy Kassel, Nic Shappe, Reileigh Mace, Teresa Plessala, Jeannie Jones, Katelyn Carter, Mary Ann McGuire, Kelli Egan, Laverne Welch, Lauretta Bennett, Clyde Czajkowski, Aaron Wood, Lanae Ortivez
4 Page 4 Life-Lines 2. God is incredibly creative! Debbie and I traveled a circle of 3500 miles. That s only a small part of the United States. Yet the diversity we saw in a small section of the country was never ending. We experienced deserts to mountains, to plateaus called mesas, to cool mountain streams, to 14 ers of Colorado and then back home to the hill country, with its own special beauty. And in each setting we had a taste of a whole new culture, a different way of life. Seeing beautiful scenery after beautiful scenery, and people of so many different cultures made me ask, If God was so creative, and he is a living God, I can only expect that he continues to be creative. I can t believe that God s creativity stopped with the beginning of time. I think he continues to be creative. He calls us into that creativity to work the building up the his kingdom. 3. God moves in six directions. I learned this from the Native Americans, from pre-history as well as their ancestors today. Western culture always talks about four directions, north - south - east - west. Native Americans added two more directions, up and down. Now that makes sense. And that s how I believe God moves. He moves up and down in both realms, earthly and heavenly through the power of his Spirit. Those are very important directions for us to be connected with our incredible God. I could go on, but probably for now that is enough to digest. I hope these words challenge you to think about God more and in expanded ways, just as I was challenged to do on my vacation. Happy vacation to you.
