An Ordinary-Extraordinary Day! Christmas? What is Christmas? For some it wouldn t be Christmas without the right music, which has already started. Maybe it s the parties and the infamous five pounds we add. Other s don t feel they ve experienced Christmas unless they ve seen It s A Wonderful Life for the 112 th time. Of course, Christmas wouldn t be Christmas without the presents we give and receive. Now that s Christmas. As I work with several individuals thinking ahead to this great event, I can t help but ask what makes this day so special? To most people, on that first Christmas, it was just like any ordinary day. They went about their lives paying their taxes, cooking another dinner, heading off to work. Nobody noticed anything different. OK. There were a few shepherds on the late shift who received the news via a magnificent heavenly show. A flock of sheep was fully aware that something was happening. And some wise astronomers in the East had just begun their journey to Israel. But the rest of the world, it was just another ordinary day. They didn t know that God had arrived. How about you? Do you know what this means for your life? Do you realize because of this special event that each morning you wake up whether on December 25 th or June 3 rd you can be certain that God has arrived? That s what so good about God coming into our world. It doesn t happen just one day a year. He is here every day to bless you, save you, restore you, heal you, grant you peace, and do so many more wonderful things for you. So when you wake up tomorrow or on any other ordinary day know that God is here, quiet and unassuming, ready for you to realize His amazing love. God is here! Because of this extraordinary day, God turns every ordinary day into something extra-ordinary. O holy Child of Bethlehem, descend to us we pray; Cast out our sin, and enter in, be born in us today. We hear the Christmas angels the great glad tidings tell Oh, come to us, abide with us, our Lord Immanuel! Pastor Dave

The Advent Appeal is a special appeal held in December to address unique financial requests beyond the church s annual budget. These requests have been identified by the committees with council approval. The Advent Appeal s purpose is to raise funds for the requested items. We ask that you do not reduce your annual giving towards the church s general budget to give to the unique requests in the appeal. Council has approved and prioritized a list of ministry needs. The items will be funded in numerical order. For example, all contributions will go towards priority #1 and after #1 is funded, funds will go towards #2. Once the appeal goal is met, all excess contributions will go towards the general budget. The estimated goal for the appeal is $15,000. The appeal will conclude January 9, Listed below are the 2010 Advent Appeal items: 1. Repair and painting of the stucco on the sanctuary and the administration building 2. New media computer for the sanctuary with upgraded sound card 3. Staining the deck 4. Hand chimes for the children two octaves 5. Paint the education buildings, café and the building trim We truly thank you for your generous gifts. We appreciate your support as we grow in our ministry. Please contact us with any questions. In Christ, The Stewardship Committee Dave Smith, Committee Chair. davesmith13@att.net
