2 Jeff Heger Exalted Ruler Is it me or does it seem like just 6 months ago I wrote my first ER letter?? So this is my last letter as Exalted Ruler and I feel we have accomplished several things this year. For starters we competed in the District and State Ritual contests which consisted of a lot of training and practice for all of the Officers. I want to thank them all for their commitment to excellence. The time spent made us a better team working together for each other. Ritual helps to make us a better core of Officers. Other accomplishments this year include purchasing a new steam table, new carpet in the club, a new roof over the club room, Lodge room chairs were reupholstered, new heater in the smoking area, expanded absent member boards, new Queen pictures and most recently, the new tables and chairs in the Club room. The tables and chairs were donated in Jim Gregory s honor by Larry and Annie Record. None of it would have been possible without the support of the membership, Lodge Officers and PER s. I want to thank all of you for your support and participation. I expect nothing less for the upcoming year as we welcome ER elect Ed Baughman and his core of Officers. I sense he will also have a great year full of many accomplishments and fun times. So, with that said, lets not forget the rest of this year as we still have work to do. March is full of activities starting with the Calendar meeting. Committee Chairman and anyone hoping to schedule an event need to get your event and budget sheets turned in. We don t want to see anyone left out! Later this month we will host our annual membership appreciation and new member dinner. Yes, new members, that means you! If you joined our Lodge this year I would really like to see you attend this event. Don t miss out on the St. Patrick s Day Dance where we will be electing our incoming Leprechaun. The Installation of Officers and Inaugural Ball will be taking place March 18. I hope you will come out and support your new ER and his core of Officers. Continued on Page 11 From the Secretary s Desk: The following members are eligible for life membership and will be voted on at the Lodge Meeting March 16 Rich Willcoxon Leonard Banks Secretary Message: The Lodge year end is coming fast, remember dues are due March 31,2017. Please pay your dues soon! It was brought to my attention that the Widow's birthdays are not listed in the banner. The Lodge has 73 widows listed and only 4 or 5 have birthdays on record. Please contact me if you would like your name added to the list. You can contact me by calling the Lodge or me at ngelksecretary@outlook.com. Please give me your name and the month and date of your birthday. I will be out of town from Wednesday March 26,2017 until Sunday April 2,2017 on business. Sorry for the inconvenience. Thank you, Hope to see you soon at the Lodge! 3 Sickness and Distress The welfare of our membership and their families rests deeply in the hearts of each of us. Our thoughts and prayers are extended to those in need. If you have sickness or distress to report, please call Joel or Leslie Haun In Memoriam: Eddie Wallace s Brother in law passed into the light on 1/31/2017 Sickness & Distress: Ed & Marla Baughman s daughter Heather had surgery on 12/19/2017. She is resting and recovering at home. Butch Downing s sister has stage 4 cancer. Gloria Werber and Marlene Case-Lawson s sister in law needs a heart transplant. Please send prayers for these families. Blessings: Troy & Audrey Olson welcomed Deklan Robert to their family on January He was 8lbs 7oz and 21 long. Both mom and son are doing great. Randy & Josephine Heger welcomed Gabriella Rosalee to their family on February She was 3lbs 8oz and 16.5 long. She came two months early and both mother and daughter are doing well. Please keep these, and all of our members and their families in your thoughts and prayers. We care about our membership. Please call us anytime about sickness, distress and blessings! Contact any officer with updates This year has been amazing. It has been a pleasure working with all of you. The membership stepped up and we were able to accomplish a lot this year. Because of that, this month I am not selecting a single person as Elk of the Month but rather the entire membership. I am giving the honor of Elk of the Month to everyone who stepped up and helped this year. Thank you all and congratulations! Ed Baughman Esteemed Leading Knight Our Volunteer for the Month of March is someone who has been around this Lodge most of their life. She helps with the funeral dinners, supports the kitchen just about every week, play s club bingo and cares for her brother. She is truly a sweetheart and should be thanked for all she does. So when you see Luann Wallace at the Lodge say thank you and let her know how much she is appreciated. Becky Schmitz, Esteemed Loyal Knight

These homes are located at major military and VA medical centers nationwide, close to the medical center or hospital they serve. Fisher Houses have up to 21 suites, with private bedrooms and baths. Families share a common kitchen, laundry facilities, a warm dining room and an inviting living room. Fisher House Foundation ensures that there is never a lodging fee. Since inception, the program has saved military and veterans families an estimated $320 million in out of pocket costs for lodging and transportation. Fisher House Foundation How are we Involved? We prepare and serve dinner for all families present and leave the left overs for them. We dine with them and take advantage of the chance to talk and share stories. These are mostly Veterans (some active) and their families from the Rocky Mountain Region. Some are out patients from out of town who need multiple visits and some are the families of in patients who need a place to stay close to their Veteran who may be in for an extended stay. The Northglenn Lodge will be going out 3 more times this year. If you are able to help please contact Kathy Anderson or Bob Heller to coordinate and for more information. Since we had more than one person running the Queen candidates raised dollars. Marla as the new Queen has chosen to put this money towards Lodge Charities. This money helps us in so many ways I have no idea where to start. The dinner was delicious; thank you so very much Joel Haun and Bill Gremling for doing a fantastic job cooking. We may have only had two Boy Scouts but they along with their two adults also did a fantastic job waiting tables. Thank you to the Officers for stepping in and helping with everything that night. You all Rock!!!!! Everyone seemed to enjoy the band Slope Side and I m hoping to have them back for Charity Ball in November. Thank you so much to all who came down Friday and helped decorate and then again Saturday afternoon to add the final details. I couldn t have done any of this without each of you. 12 The Elks and Patriotism A Standard of Honor The flag of the United States is a living symbol that calls to our spirit, reminding us of the greatness of America. We cherish and uphold it because it is the standard of honor under which we live. The proper name of the nation's symbol is the United States Flag; however, it is sometimes referred to as Old Glory. We view the flag with devotion, for it represents our national heritage of noble deeds, splendid accomplishment, and untold sacrifices which combined to establish the moral character of our country. Our flag is a symbol that makes our past one with the present and makes the present a foundation for tomorrow. It signifies a people dedicated to liberty, justice and freedom for all. It is our companion around the world. It summons confidence on sight. There is a magic in its folds that continually renews the hope that this nation, under God, will long be an example everywhere for all who love freedom with honor. We give homage to the flag because it stands for the courageous, earnest, and unselfish experiences of our people who have given us strength as a nation and pride as citizens. We respect our flag because we have respect for our fellow citizens, and because our love for country finds its center in our flag. The customs and traditions which surround the display and use of our flag are guides to the means by which we as proud and grateful citizens may demonstrate the ultimate respect for the flag of our nation. In honoring and saluting our flag we demonstrate affection for our nation, fellow citizens and the proud future we share. From the National Flag Foundation
