1 FELLOWSHIP MESSENGER Dave s Devotional This month the season of fall officially arrives! While the temperature might be cooler outside, things at church will start to heat up as we enter the busyness of this time of year. Trying to find quiet time often becomes more and more difficult. I share with you this month an old Dear Abby column listing Ten Commandments for a long and peaceful life. Enjoy them! 1. Thou shalt not worry, for worry is the most unproductive of all human activities. 2. Thou shalt not be fearful, for most of the things we fear never come to pass. 3. Thou shalt face each problem as it comes. You can handle only one at a time. 4. Thou shalt not cross bridges before you get to them, for no one yet has succeeded in accomplishing this. 5. Thou shalt not take problems to bed with you, for they make very poor bedfellows. 6. Thou shalt not borrow other people's problems. They can take better care of them than you can. 7. Thou shalt be a good listener, for only when you listen do you hear ideas different from your own. It's very hard to learn something new when you're talking. 8. Thou shalt not try to re-live yesterday for good or ill it is gone. Concentrate on what is happening in your life today. 9. Thou shalt not become bogged down by frustration, for 50 percent of it is rooted in self-pity and will only interfere with positive actions. 10. Thou shalt count thy blessings, never overlooking the small ones for a lot of small blessings add up to a big one. With the joy of serving Christ together, The Rev. Dr. David A. Marcus, Jr. All items to be included in the newsletter must be submitted to the church office by the 20 th of the month.
2 News From the Leadership Board The Leadership Board met on Monday, August 13, in the Fellowship Building. Committee Reports were given and the following was discussed: The Church Office was completed on August 14. The address of the Church Office is 514 Hunter Avenue. HOWEVER, all mail should continue to be sent to the address at 919 West Academy Street, Winston-Salem, NC A new 14 conference table and chairs was donated for the church office by Sunnie Hoffman and was given in loving memory of Evelyn Vickers. The blinds in the church office were donated by the Christ Church Women s Fellowship. A church workday is scheduled for Saturday, October 6. Donna Abee Kowalski will be joining our church on Sunday, August 26. The next meeting will be Monday, September 10 at 7 PM in the Church Office. Women s Fellowship News Women s Fellowship Circle #1 will meet on Monday night, September 17 at 7 PM in the Fellowship Building. Please continue to bring in Salemtowne bingo prizes as often as possible. There is a box in the hall behind the sanctuary. Marvelous Moravians The Marvelous Moravians will gather in the Fellowship Building on September 11th at 1 PM for a movie and refreshments. We will be watching the movie, Do You Believe? When a priest is shaken to the core by the visible belief of a street-corner preacher, he and a lot of other people (who are also struggling with their own problems as well) come together and start to question their religious beliefs and what they really mean. The movie features an ensemble cast including Mira Sorvino, Sean Astin, Ted McGinley, Cybill Shepherd and Lee Majors. There is a sign up sheet located on the Church Family Life bulletin board. Greetings to All, NOTES FROM THE LOFT Well, we have come to the end of another summer. While our choir has been on sabbatical, they have sung for Commuions during the summer, and for this I extend my utmost thanks. We always receive favorable comments from the congregation, which are much appreciated. Though we are a small group, we are faithful for rehearsals and for Sunday services. We are Christians Brothers and Sisters who love praising God in music. Please feel free to join us. We love having new singers. Choir rehearsals are on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m., and normally last from one hour to an hour and a half. On August 19, we celebrated Children's Love Feast by honoring our Youth with songs they would normally sing. We hope those who were there enjoyed the music as well as the buns and chocolate milk. During the summer, we have heard beautiful music by Adam Conrad, Steve Holland, Martha Walker, Lynn Swaim, a group of musicians from the MMF Brass Festival, and our Hand Bell Team. Anniversary Love Feast is coming up next, and Thanksgiving and Christmas are fast approaching!! Blessings to All, Jeanie ====================================== CHURCH WORK DAY SATURDAY, October 6, :00 AM UNTIL DONE (Sign-up Sheet on the Church Family Life Bulletin Board) 2

This event will be for all ages as we trace our roots back to the beginnings of Moravian missions. The ministry fair will be from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The play will be at 2:00 p.m. John Leonard Dober and David Nitschman are names you may not readily recognize. Dober was a potter and David a carpenter. These were ordinary occupations for two extraordinary men whose adventure shaped the Moravian Church as it is today. In 1732, they left the security of their jobs and families and became the first Moravian missionaries. It was not an easy task but they answered the call to come and minister the gospel to us. Their purpose in life was to follow the Lamb who had given His life for them and for all the souls of the world. This year the Moravian Church Southern Province is celebrating this historic event by hosting a modern Moravian Ministry Voyage. 4
