COMMUNITY CORNER CAFE COMMUNITY CORNER CAFE WAS A SUCCESS! We want to give a big thanks to all who were involved with the cafe this past Friday night. Your help made it a huge success! We served over 170 people and provided a great atmosphere for all those who attended. It was a great time for the volunteers and attendees and we received many compliments throughout the night. The only complaint was a speck Don Widrig left on a plate he washed, but we had a talk with him and it was cleared up to give us 100% satisfaction. Thanks again to all who supported this great night. See you next year! Bruay la Buissiére is in the extreme north of France, very near Belgium and the English Channel. Faustine's current host family is our very own Sue Fereday. Sue has a daughter the same age as Faustine so it has been a great fit. Faustine is in the center of the picture. At home, Faustine took seven years of English, three years of Spanish, and one year of Chinese. We can learn a lot from her! She is the third of three children in her family. She took the initiative by herself to contact her local Rotary club to become an exchange student to the United States. 3 of 9 1/15/13 12:00 PM

Tom Anderson still has several Rocky Cards, our Rotary Club gets half the proceeds so if you want one, please see Tom. $10 will get you a Rocky Card and so far this year, we ve sold more than last year! Tara Moenning read us a nice update letter from one of our scholarship recipients, Elizabeth Wellner who just graduated Magna cum laude from CSU. Big Duck Marcia Logan is gearing up for a very special Duck Race this year, it will be the 25th Duck Race for our club! There will be a Duck Race meeting held tonight at 5:00 p.m. in the back dining room at Nicky s Restaurant. Also, Marcia told us some more history of the Duck Race, that in 1995, the Duck Race was a three day event, that included a parade, 5 of 9 1/15/13 12:00 PM
6 bike races, a pancake breakfast, storytime and more. Some of the committee members from back then, are still committee members now and Marcia is in awe of the work that they did to put on a three day event! Ken Cole told us that It s Showtime! is coming up March 1 & 2 and they are rounding up some great entertainment and the committee is currently selling ads for the program. There will be a committee meeting today, after this Rotary meeting at 1:30 at the Community Church of the Rockies. Pres. Elect Pete told us other meeting announcements. The Youth Exchange Committee will meet on Jan. 24 at 5:30 p.m. at Optical Perspectives and there will be a Foundation Board Meeting held in the Wasson Room of the Estes Valley Library on January 28, at 5:00 p.m. On January 31 there will be a fifth Thursday Social held at Madison and Marty Casey s home. Time to be announced. We heard from our exchange student Faustine Delebarre who told us she just got back from a big Rotary meeting in Fort Collins where she met the Rotary International President and the focus of the meeting was on PEACE! She learned that peace should begin with your family, town and community. She really loved meeting the RI President. In the Happy Money Dept. Rob Ludlum was happy he was part of the Duck Race in 1995 and he remembers being stationed in Bond Park that year, selling Duck Race sweatshirts in the cold. Tom Gardener was happy he just got back from visiting family and everyone all got along well, they welcomed a new grandson, Thomas Gardner Klett. Wayne Andersen was happy that Ron Gordon stepped up to the plate last week and filled the $166 gap needed for Salvation Army to meet their $42,000 goal! Thank you Ron and even more donations have since come in, they are at $43,500! Jack Overly was happy he was part of the 1995 Duck Race and told us he helped organize the first Duck Race parade, the bike ride in RMNP, the family bike ride in town AND the pancake breakfast! He s happy he doesn t have to do that anymore! Karen McClure is happy that she went south during the holidays to New Orleans and saw old friends, family and celebrated the start of Mardi Gras. Jill Anderson was thankful and happy for all her family and friends who have been so supportive since her family has endured four deaths in the last 28 days. She stated we are blessed to have Bill Smith in our club and community! Harry Hutcherson was happy he and his wife recently went to see the Van Gogh exhibit in Denver and he reminisced about the Duck Race being broadcast on the local radio station years ago.
