Karis Liston Ministers in Costa Rica Karis Liston, daughter of Central Valley student minister Todd and Sharon Liston and a member of Central Valley Baptist Church, is learning Spanish at the Spanish Language Institute and is a short term intern with Christ for the City, International, in Tirrases, Costa Rica until December 10. 2 Enjoying the Lord s Work... It s been a busy time since my last newsletter article. On March 5 th, I had the opportunity to attend the Idaho State Prayer Breakfast which was held at Boise on the Grove. There was not a vacant seat as Ravi Zacharias brought a powerful and challenging message. The next morning, I had the opportunity to preach at Calvary Baptist Church in Boise. Please be in prayer as they seek a new pastor. I believe that God has just the right person for Calvary as well as for University Baptist Church, who is also without a pastor. On March th, we had an Associational Men s Retreat held up at Trinity Pines Camp and Conference Center in Cascade, Idaho. What a blessing it was to be with such a great group of guys! A big thank you goes to David Howell and Dallas Claypool for organizing the event. I also want to thank Travis Best and Eddie Hancock for doing such a fantastic job in leading the sessions. On Easter Sunday, I was blessed to attend and lead worship for Word of Truth Fellowship in Caldwell, Idaho. I appreciate everything that Dave Carver Sr. is doing with that group of folks. May the Lord continue to add to their number. On the first weekend of April, I got to do something I ve never done before lead worship for an Associational Women s Retreat which was also held at the Trinity Pines Camp and Conference Center in Cascade, Idaho. I was one guy among nearly 100 women! They even had me do my Cowboy Skit which I have always done at Children s Camp. All in all it was a great experience! We have some wonderful women in our association. After leading the Sunday morning worship session at the women s retreat, I traveled to Council, Idaho to be with Pastor Dave Poor and his wife, Linda, for the one year anniversary of Council Valley Baptist Church. I appreciate the work that Pastor Dave and Linda are doing there in Council and I m also thankful for Fruitland First Baptist Church as the sponsoring church of this new work. On April th, I was able to be with a group of people from Tennessee and Mississippi who came to be part of a visioning tour here in the Treasure Valley. I appreciate Mike Palmer, Clint Henry, Jim Ballard, Dan Ozuna, and some of our other local pastors who have a heart to see new churches started here in the Treasure Valley. The need is great! Serving Him together, Ray

3 A Message From Your Moderator Sometimes it is good to remember that our Lord is the same every day (Hebrews 13:8) because we are not. Yet He loves us. This means He is patient and kind with us, and He disciplines us because He loves us. A current saying is, It's all about Him and not about me. That is true, but on Good Friday it was all about us! He chose to die for us. He chose to suffer for us. It is great that He is the same every day. Let's try to share His love with others every day. Moderator David Howell...Romans 5:6 TVSBA UPCOMING EVENTS MAY May 14--Rally in the Valley, New Covenant, 10 a.m.--3:30 p.m. Youth Event May 29--Fifth Sunday Sing, 6 p.m., Fruitland First Baptist JUNE June 4--Camp Training at Central Valley, Meridian. 9:30 a.m.--11:30 a.m. June Children s Camp at Cathedral Pines, Ketchum June 26-July 1--Youth Camp at Living Waters Ranch, Challis JULY July 21--Executive Board Meeting, 7 p.m. (6:30 p.m. registration) Silver Sage July 31--Fifth Sunday Sing, 6 p.m., Nampa First Southern Baptist Church

4 GROW!--Retreat Lives up to its Name! Quick, name all the Fruit of the Spirit, in order! Well, as of April 3, 90 women may have been able to do just that! The TVSBA women s retreat was a great success. With Arie Sparkman in charge of the committee, women from six of our churches helped in the planning of the retreat. Our amazing speakers were volunteers from within our churches. Katie Powers, Sherry Dodd, Pam Anderson, Shirley Howell, Becky Best, Bonnie Martin, Ginny Clark, Valorie Ruth, Verna Voris, and Casey Grant, our speakers, each led us in an adventure in God s Word as we learned what it means to truly live out the Fruit of the Spirit in our daily lives. Special highlights of the retreat included Valorie Ruth leading us in learning the theme verse in sign language and Ray Sparkman, TVSBA Director of Missions, leading our worship. Another blessing was the Showcase night. After Saturday sessions were over we met once again to share gifts the Lord has given us. As the climax, Bonnie Martin led us in a group participation exercise that reminded us to pray in the midst of the cacophony of our lives and God will give us peace. (See that on the UISBC Women Alive Facebook page!) Next year s retreat will be March 31--April 2, You can get involved even now by notifying the office that you d love to help! But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23
