The new Stephen Ministers are Steve Campbell, Judy Kauffman, Karen Lee, Melinda Shunk, and Teresa Tribble. There are now 21 active Stephen Ministers in our program. The FUMC program was initiated in 2001 while David Wilson was Senior Pastor with Rev. Jim Benfer as the first Stephen Ministry Leader. Continuing education and monthly meetings are a part of the Stephen Ministry program. Many members of FUMC have been trained over the years and have served the needs of our Church members, as well as others in the community. Many members from Hot Springs FUMC have completed training in the past, and have ministered not only to our church members but to others in the community. 3

Did you know that of the annual 1640 child abuse deaths, most were under the age of 3? On Sunday, April 29, we will participate in the observance of Blue Sunday. Blue Sunday is a day of prayer for abused children and those who rescue them. The Blue Sunday organization raises awareness among the faith community through their Blue Ribbon Church program and the annual National Blue Sunday Day of Prayer for Abused Children, which is always the last Sunday of April which is child abuse prevention month. 5 Child Development Center LesLee Jones Enrollment for School-Age Children for summer care begins April 2 for ages Kindergarten - 6th grade. Care begins May 29. Cost is $115 per week or $40 per day. Call the CDC at (501) for additional information and a registration form. Wishing Tree On the wall just outside the doors of the children s wing in the Christian Life Center is a Wishing Tree of materials CDC teachers wish to have in their classrooms, with photos, descriptions, and prices attached. You are invited to take a wish from the tree and purchase the item, or give CDC Director LesLee Jones money to cover the cost of the item and she will order it. Your generous gift will help the CDC children Explore, Discover and learn. DID YOU KNOW? That the Child Development Center continues to evolve to meet the needs of families in the community? Children from more diverse backgrounds are now enrolled in the CDC. This includes diversity in race, religion, culture, socioeconomic status, and family structure, including children in foster care. There are children who are bilingual and children with special needs who receive services from outside agencies. The CDC also accepts children whose tuition is paid through child care assistance because their parents are in school, in training, working in low-paying jobs, or because children are in foster care. Scholarships are also available when a family encounters a crisis such as loss of a job. The scholarships are for short periods of time and serve as a safety net for families until they can once again begin paying tuition for their child. Thanks to church members who helped fund the scholarships. Rio Bravo Mission Trip 2018 First United Methodist Church of Hot Springs will be taking part in the annual Rio Bravo mission trip from Sunday, June 3 - Sunday, June 10, Manos Juntas (Hands Together) Mexico, the Volunteers in Mission project in Rio Bravo, has been focused on health care and home building in the lower Rio Grand valley for over 25 years. For the thirteenth year members of our church plan to join the mission group led by Rev. Jim Benfer. Medical and construction projects, as well as sewing classes and bible school are planned. At this time we need about six more volunteers for the mission. All of our missioners provide their own expenses for the trip. Cost is $ per person plus your transportation cost to/from McAllen, TX. Also, this mission has always depended on the entire church for financial support since your donations provide medical supplies and construction materials, which can total $ or more. Through your giving and your prayers, this can be everyone s mission. Our many previous missioners can tell you what a blessing this project has been in their lives and in the lives of the people of Mexico. Our prayers are for hearts ready to serve and for health and safe travel. For more information about the history of our Rio Bravo trips, contact the church office or Dr. Lou Poole at (870) or stuff4drlou@yahoo.com. 5

The senior parents on the committee also want to thank the sophomore parents, who have taken on the responsibilities that will make it possible for senior parents to attend the ceremony honoring their children.
