1 New Beginnings In This Issue p. 3 Dinner & A Movie p. 4 End of School Summer Blowout p. 5 Underground Youth Summer Schedule May 2016 On Sunday, July 3, the First United Methodist Church of Hot Springs will begin a new chapter in her many years of service to the Lord. We will be welcoming Rev. David Freeman Moseley as our new Senior Pastor with a unity service in the Historic Sanctuary. Rev. Moseley and his wife, Carol Bard Moseley, have two daughters, both married, with three grandchildren between them. Rev. Moseley is coming to us from West Memphis First Methodist, where he has served as Senior Pastor since His previous appointments include the Okolona Charge, Wesley Memorial Charge of Cresson, Quarter UMC of Little Rock, Gurdon/Mt. Zion, Grand Avenue UMC of Hot Springs, Paragould First, and Pine Bluff First. Rev. Moseley received his Bachelor of Arts at Henderson State University in 1986 and his Master of Divinity at the Perkins School of Theology at SMU in He was born and raised in the Methodist faith and being ordained as an Elder in our own FUMC historic santcuary was one of the greatest honors of his life. Rev. Moseley has three great loves in this life: a passion for Scripture, a commitment to my wife Carol, and a dedication to servanthood. Scripture is at the heart of his preaching. Sharing the scriptures with others is a high calling, he says. Rev. Moseley wants the congregation of FUMC Hot Springs to hold him accountable for [sharing the scripture], God s most precious gift. The other half of the Moseley team is Carol, someone Rev. Moseley describes as a devoted servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. Carol s ministry centers around children. She has served as the Children s Minister at both Gurdon UMC and Paragould UMC, and was the director of the Child Development Center at FUMC Hot Springs under Rev. David WIlson. She currently works with the Arkansas State University Childhood Services, working with preschools around the state. Rev. Moseley says he and Mrs. Moseley are grateful for the opportunity to serve the Lord Jesus Christ among the people of First United Methodist Church of Hot Springs. Welcome the Moseley s during a unity service on Sunday, July 3 at 10:45 am in the sanctuary.

2 Don t Miss! May Events Sunday, May 8 Senior Recognition Sunday Senior 9:30 AM Christian Life Center Friday, May 13 End of School Year Blowout 4:30-7:00 PM FUMC Campus & Christian Life Center Sunday, May 29 Unity Service - ConneXion 10:45 AM Christian Life Center Adult Discipleship Rev. Teresa Holt tholt@fumchs.com ext 116 The Listening Life Wednesdays June 1 - August 10 11:45 am - 12:45 pm Christian Life Center 211 Rev. Teresa Holt, facilitator. In this noisy, distracting world, it is difficult to truly hear. People talk over each other, eager to be heard, but somehow deaf to what is being said. Listening is an essential skill for healthy relationships, both with God and with other people. But it is more than that: listening is a way of life. Listening is at the heart of our spirituality, our relationships and our mission in the world. By cultivating a posture of listening, we become more attentive and engaged with those around us, and more able to minister to those in distress. Our lives are qualitatively different indeed better when we become listeners. Heed the call to the listening life, and hear what God is doing in you and the world. We understand that summer is a busy time, so participants are not required to be at all sessions. To register, contact Teresa. Bereavement Committee Recipes Our Bereavement Committee appreciates all those who help and cherish the faithfulness our church members have shown to our church and to the families of our congregation. They will be publishing recipes that members have prepared for the family meals and receptions each month. Mary Ann Schnipper s Hominy Casserole 5-6 (16 oz.) cans hominy, rinsed and drained 1 (16 oz.) jar Cheese Whiz 2 (10 oz.) cans of cream of celery soup 1-2 (4 ½ ounce) cans of chopped green chilies Broken corn chips. It might be the death of a loved one, a job change, a divorce, the end of a friendship, an extended health problem, financial instability, or a mid-life crisis. This small group will help participants reflect, ritualize, and reorient themselves - to help heal the hurts and anxieties caused by saying goodbye to one season of life and hello to another. To register, contact Teresa. Childcare provided. Pour hominy into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Mix Cheese Whiz, soup and green chilies. Pour over hominy. Top with broken corn chips and sprinkle lightly with paprika. Bake uncovered at 325 degrees for 40 minutes or until bubbly. Serves 8-12 depending on Serving size. 2

5 Underground Youth Ministries Liz Robinson ext 131 Check out this summer s crazy awesome Underground Youth schedule! Pray With Us Please pray that God will Wake Up America. Pray that all God s people will humble themselves, and pray, and seek His face and turn from their wicked ways, because He promises that He will hear from heaven, forgive our sin, and heal our land (2 Chronicles 7:14). We are encouraged to Shout it aloud, do not hold back. Raise our voices like a trumpet (Isaiah 58:1). Traditional Music Ministry Timothy Tucker ttucker@fumchs.com ext 118 The Chancel Choir of First United Methodist will be the anchor choir of the opening worship service of Annual Conference Sunday, June 19. The opening service is open to everyone, not just attending clergy. Join the choir now to be part of this exciting event! We would love to have you in our choir family, no matter your singing level. Contact Tim for rehearsal times and more information. National Day of Prayer Wake Up America Thursday, May 5 The 65th annual National Day of Prayer will have profound significance for our country. Please join other Christians from all over our city and nation in lifting America before God at First Church of the Nazarene, located at 3804 Central Avenue, from 10:00-11:00 am. The theme, Wake Up America, emphasizes the need for us, individually and corporately, to seek God s mercy, grace, and protection for our country. This year s chosen scripture is Isaiah 58:1, Shout it aloud, do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet. Prayer is the HOPE of America to bring about the spiritual awakening. Scripture says, If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land (2 Chronicles 7:14). This is our opportunity to praise God, repent of our sins, and cry out to God to heal our nation. The Prayer Team has provided prayer guides in the Welcome Centers of both the sanctuary and the Christian Life Center for you to take and pray with us. We also encourage you to join us on May 5th at First Church of the Nazarene to pray that the Lord will Wake Up America! 5
