I never was much for being on ime. Even hough nohing has been happening laely wih he MMOC, he organizaion is never far from my mind. I wen on line and prined copies of he convenion cruise for nex year and of member applicaions. Every ime I see a cop friend I ask if hey wan o join he MMOC. So far I've goen 2 or 3 new members and I've given ou abou 8 applicaions and abou 10 cruise flyers. Wha we all need o do is recrui new members. Even hough we only make a couple dollars off he membership fees he more members we have he more people here are o shop in he sore, aend any funcions and spend money on suff o benefi he MMOC. I's no jus your Presiden and Direcors who need o run his organizaion bu you as he members need o conac a Direcor wih any suggesions ha migh help he MMOC. End resul, hey caugh he 'dummy' and filed 2 couns of aemp 187 on an Officer wih enhancemens, 2 felony couns of evading, 2 felony couns of DUI, wih bail se a 1.2 million dollars. Las nigh VTD (Valley Traffic Div) had one a Venura Bl & Lankershim righ near Universal Sudios/Universal Ciy Walk. The 'cach' wasn' grea bu Ten DUI's and weny-four impounds is nohing o laugh a... good job! I reminds me of he ol' days, 'IBARS' (Insan Booking And Release), we use o pack hem away! Since our las 'Siren' our LAPD Moors on Oc 2nd & 3rd 2009 celebraed heir 100h Birhday! Wha a grea ime up a he ol' academy in Elysian Park. Chief Darryl Gaes was our 'special speaker'. I can' explain he feeling waching 300 LAPD moors being escored by 85 LASD moors coming up over he hill from downown o he academy...wow! Firs came he 'LAPD Color Guard' Officers Lou Medrano, Pee Reyes, Tim Rolsen, Tasha Karandy and Sg. Tavares, hen wo anique/vinage moorcycles...a 1932 Indian Scou and a 1943 Harley Davidson which is ridden daily by Officer Kevin Coer. Then he Moor Drill Team led by Sg Mich Windsor and Drill Maser Phil Walers. Tha brough a chill...ha's wha I was! The wo-day anniversary celebraion concluded Saurday, which was reserved for Moor Cops (acive & reired) and heir families and friends, no public. Over 650 aended his family-oriened even. Cairo s is boiserous because of our baner, ye our conference room seaing is very cool and he food, in a word, exquisie. No speeches his nigh, jus mangia and a reurn rip o he pool s cool waers, a nighcap and a good nigh s sleep. Moor Cops, reired or no, don like being lecured on road safey, riding formaion, roue, desinaion or speed by a bald-headed 66 year old ha joined he Over The Hill Gang decades ago. As we moored norh ono US101 and shed some of he inland hea, he specacular coasal mounain range offered verdan views and new undulaing opography. We invaded Willis for brunch and were me here by Mel and Tami D Angelo, joining us for he remainder of he ride. Wih Eureka 150 miles disan, some of our group eleced o deour o For Bragg on he coas while we moored o Garberville for a break, hen a scenic our on he Avenue of he Gians. Coninuing norh, he sun disappeared hrough Humbold Redwoods Sae Park, oblieraed by cenuriesold gian conifers ha gave way o coasal fog and disan views of sand dunes as we approached Foruna. Wih 20 miles o his nigh s moel in Eureka and many of us in shir sleeves, damp 50 degree emps chill facored ou o sub-zero, or so i fel, as we pulled ino he No Tell Moel wih chaering eeh! Wih he lae afernoon arrival of Chuck Nicolls, we were now a complee 16h Annual Ride group and ime for he obligaory group phoos, resplenden in our canary yellow MMOC T-Shirs. Think he morning riders meeings are mass confusion? I ook almos 2 hours o ge all 35 of us ogeher for his Kodak momen! And hen here were he discussions on where o ea, and have you seen he indoor pool, and as one wag pu i, my room doesn have an air condiioner!. Uh...he sun las shone on Eureka in he 19h cenury, i s 50 degrees now and alhough I hear you fine, I can barely see you hrough he fog! Here s your sign! Seven AM is awful early o preach o 34 bundled up parishioners, looking for all he world like muliples of he sone-faced Presidens a Moun Rushmore, ye I bellowed, We have 240 miles o cover oday wih a 3 hour say a The Oregon Caves. Breakfas is 10 minues away a he world famous Samoa Cook House. Follow me ou of he parking lo; make a lef on he main drag, go 2 blocks o he HUGE overhead sign ha says Ca 255- Samoa, make a lef. Go 2 miles over he bridge and a he end of he road make anoher lef. Go 200 yards o he firs lef and urn ino he parking lo. Ten minues laer mos of us arrived, anoher 15 minues passed before hose ha failed lisening comprehension 101 se side sands o armac! Here s your sign! Tummies full wih grea food and warmed by ho coffee, we head norh on US101, following he coas for 85 miles o Crescen Ciy. As we merge ono US 199, we bid adieu o he fog and welcome sunshine peeking hrough he gian redwoods. Fify miles laer, we arrive a Cave Juncion, Oregon, and anoher 20 miles off he beaen pah on seep, ascending corkscrew roadway will have us a he caves enrance. Twelve miles ino his rek, and a a spiried pace, we a he fron round a igh righ-hand on-camber urn ha sends a leas 10 bikes sideways as much as 3 fee. SAND! Looking back, all 21 bikes survived, bu from her pillion sea, Rhoda bich-slapped my helme he las 8 miles, he ringing in my ears precluding comprehension of he four leer words she uered! Loves ya baby! Sixeen advenurous souls me up wih Ms Rangeree, a humorous and cherubic lass ha jus go her degree in geology and admiedly voluneered o guide our biker group ino he bowels of he earh. She provided insigh ino mineral formaions, hieroglyphic echings and even had sponaneous answers for some of Laezsch s more colorful inerpreaions. Seems Baron was having XXX raed flash backs o he Rorschach es we all ook as a sepping sone o ensure cranium sabiliy during our LEO careers! Niney minues of educaion and laugher led o 45 minues of lunch and hen i was off o Grans Pass and a shor 30 mile jaun o Medford. This day had deal us a 55+ degree emperaure differenial and he Red Lion Hoel s beauiful pool offered a grea respie. Adul beverages flowed, as did he BS coming from he Williams brohers Kenny and Buzz; and Baron and Bob Holland, ever he moor-mouhs, old lies some of us believed o be rue. Afer a lae dinner, many frolicked poolside unil managemen eleced o enforce closing ime. Nie all. Friday morning came oo early, and a our riders meeing we said a sad goodbye o CK, Buzzy, Marilyn, Kenny and Gwen Williams who were headed norh-eas o Bend, Oregon o visi more family, and likewise Bob Holland who seered norh on business. We also bid adieu o JJ, Kerry and Jack who were coninued on nex page

Chris Norman, who myseriously conraced he ourisas overnigh, would spend an addiional nigh or wo in Medford sack-sucking Pepo Bismol before venuring home. Our ranks reduced en-fold, i was ime o challenge he beauiful and scenic Ca 96. This serpenine ribbon of asphal follows he Klamah River for 130 miles and hen afer he confluence wih he Triniy River, anoher 25 miles along ha waerway before dumping us ono road s end a Willow Creek and Ca 299. Fify five miles ino his corkscrew journey, we sopped a Seiad Valley; populaion 20(!), for a fanasic MMOC sponsored oudoor breakfas pre-arranged by Mike Rores. Hyped on caffeine and pacified wih bacon, eggs, sausage, pancakes, orange juice and frui; we again drop he hammer and lisen o he purr of inernal combusion. There are few roads in he U.S. as long and convolued as Ca 96 ha simulaneously offer mesmerizing scenery and lush opography from beginning o end, ye we all came away wih differen sensory overloads. For myself and a few ohers, i was he high G-load E icke ride; for some he aural saccao of muliple V wins in relaxed low RPM cadence; and ohers, he lush valleys, owering ree lines and verdan views. Following Ca 299 eas alongside he Triniy River for 55 miles ino Weaverville is scenic and eneraining oo, bu as he emperaure rises dramaically o 105 near journey s end, everyone s mind is on he Vicorian Inn s ice cold swimming pool. Regisraion is almos chaoic as we muscle and elbow our way o he desk, secure room keys and bea-fee for air condiioned rooms. Three hours ino our pool pary, i s ime o be ushered o Marino s Ialian Resauran a mile disan by Micki Waide (Heanes) and Chuck Nicolls for our 7:30 seaing. Chuck ges all he accolades for seing up his nigh s feas and i was exquisie, perhaps he bes meal on he rip, and no o be forgoen. Seaed in he back room around a loooong able, i was ime o reflec on his 3 day, 4 nigh, and 750 mile advenure: We had fanasic weaher, albei wih a couple emperaure exremes, few road consrucion delays, gorgeous and varied scenery, including an ineresing our of cenury s old caves and ae like Kings and Queens. As a firs, we had 4 chase vehicles (!) and owe a HUGE deb of hanks o George and Barbara Firchow, Mickie Waide, Marilyn Williams and her grumpy shogun-parner faher-in-law, CK, and Mark Murray and Bob Holland who oo were eamed up in a 4-wheeler due o recen road rash incidens. They all chipped in and grealy conribued o he comfor and success of our ride. And, wih represenaives from he San Leandro, Oakland, Los Angeles, Bakersfield, San Francisco, Campbell, San Jose, Broadmore, Modeso and Federal Way Washingon PD s, Alameda Couny and Sonoma Couny SO s and he CHP, we had umbrella coverage of his sae and more. If you read carefully, you noiced ha one ou-of-sae foreigner lierally above. Tha would be new Associae Member Chris Norman, who holds dual ciizenship and began his law enforcemen career a age 18 in London, England; migraed o Bakersfield PD 4 years laer, picked up roos afer 10 years in search of a beer qualiy of life for his children and is now a Commander wih Federal Way, Washingon. An ineresing and friendly chap, Chris is one hell of a good rider; aribuable, I feel, o he Briish iered licensing sysem. And if you hink he raveled far for his ride, consider George and Barbara Firchow s rek from Lincoln, Nebraska (!) and Baron Laezsch from Show Low, Arizona, abou 50 miles from he New Mexico border! Wih due hanks o one and all, and long afer sunse, i s ime for pool side sargazing in comforable 90 degree weaher, he wind rusling hrough he pines as several wolves and I howl a he moon. I am sorry o say ha since I las wroe you, nohing has surfaced o resolve he logisics of hosing Cioppino Feed for As we explained, he San Jose Police Associaion Hall is undergoing renovaion and will no be available unil very lae in he spring when crab season has prey much expired. The cos of crab and seafood a ha ime would be double wha we usually spend. We explored he possibiliy of rening oher faciliies comparable o he SJPOA hall bu eiher he cos was oo high or he logisics were no suiable. Mos would no allow us o cook our own Cioppino. Raher hey waned us o caer i...and mos of you remember wha happened when we aemped ha sraegy a few years back. So, he board voed o suspend he Cioppino Feed for 2010.

If more han one member is nominaed from any one agency, hen a PRIMARY ELECTION for ha agency mus be held in AUGUST o deermine he candidae who will run for office in he GENERAL ELECTION in Sepember. A DIRECTOR mus be ineresed in he policies of MMOC paricularly he generaing of new Acive, Associae, and Honorary members. The candidae mus have some knowledge of ways o generae operaing capial and addiional funds. The erm of office is TWO (2) YEARS. I is no all fun and games. A candidae mus have diplomacy, ac, and dedicaion o MMOC, public relaions undersanding and he aendance a MMOC funcions. I will ake up a grea deal of ime for he nex wo years.
