You were well rewarded by he splendid aendance of so many NINTH men and heir families. There was bound o be some disappoinmen such as he PA sysem a Independence Hall, bu ha did no dampen he enhusiasm of he marchers. We looked prey good afer hiry four years. The roue of march was on a holiday appearance wih so many American flags on display. I was inspiring. Free Transporaion For all of us who are now senior ciizens, he Ciy allowed us o join heir residens o enjoy free ransporaion anywhere in he ciy jus by showing our Healh Insurance idenificaion. Thank you Philadelphia could be he only ciy in he counry graning such a privilege. The bes ime Many people do no aend a convenion or a Memorial Mass because hey hink ha hey will no know anyone here. If you know no one, hen ha is when you have he bes ime. Sar a conversaion 'wih someone a your side and see wha happens. My wife and I had a very enjoyable cha wih Mr. and Mrs. Ernes Nisson from Iowa. There is a lo of space beween Massachuses and Iowa and here were numerois places, evens, poliics ec. o alk abou. Two men from Jersey wih heir wives and a couple from Yonkers were also very ineresing while swapping sories, Exreme courage Bill and Barbara Meadows aended as many, if no more,convenions and Memorial masses han many men. They lived in Deroi. In any even hey had o ravel grea disances o aend hese evens. Boh were well liked and well known. A year ago Bill became seriously sick and died wihin wo weeks. Like many widows of NINTH men Barbara. Meadows showed exreme courage by aending our convenion in Philadelphia. Like Mrs. Harold Huber and Mrs. Sylveser'Byrne hey oo had o aend our nex even afer heir husbands had died. These hree women showed grea courage. There are many more who feel ha hey could no aend an even wihou heir husband. These hree women did i. PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE Florida in 1979 So he 1979 convenion is o be in Florida. All of he regular residens and ransplaned norherners who are now below he Mason and Dixon Line can ge an early sar o produce a grea convenion. Phyllis Perna will be nex in command as Vice-Presiden, wih Lily Krasovez keeping an eye on he financial condiions in addiion o being secreary. Ruh Vicor will again be spiriual leader. This year he Ladies have added a new office o heir chain of command when hey appoined Connie Richards o handle he Public Relaions of he Auxiliary. Al Geis and Frank Russo a couple of old imers from he 39h were on sick call and could no aend. Al suffered a se back wih a sroke and Frank had an operaion jus before he reunion. We wish hem a speedy recovery. Larges Group The 47h Infanry had he larges group a he reunion wih 131 men in aendance. This urnou can be credied largely o wo members from Meuchen, New Jersey who wroe o heir buddies. Ed "Hoppie" Hopkins from Company F and Howard Waldman from A-T Company kep he secreary busy supplying hem wih copies of he old Company rosers and any names he had on he up o dae mailing lis. Their effors cerainly paid off and a good lesson was learned. We always say come o he reunion and bring a buddy. Hoppie and Howie were hrilled and heir feelings are expressed in mail call. 25 or more men showed up from each of heir companies. ++ Many unis have heir own reunions and we wonder why hey don' hold hem wih he Division reunion. The 9h Recon is one of hese groups and here is Company B 39h Infanry ha holds a reunion every year. New Faces There were many new faces a his years reunion and we hope hey will be wih us for many more. Jim Allgood former CO of Company K-47h and 1s Bn. CO-47h made he rip from Oregon. 4 THE OCTOFOIL Business Transaced A Reunion Meeing-Board of Governors The 128h meeing of he Naional Board of Governors was held in Philadelphia, Pa., on July 27, 1978 a he Philadelphia-Sheraon Hoel. The meeing was called o order by he Presiden Al Perna a 4:10 P.M., aended by Messrs: John Bonkowski, Elmer Wagner, William Klauz, George.i3ako, Dave Gelman, Francis Maher, Charles Koskie, Sal Trapani, Paul Keller, Frank Ozar and Pa DeColi. Also in aendance were Judge Advocae Harrison Daysh, 1s Vice-Presiden Vincen Guglielmino, 2nd Vice Presiden Bill Bongiorno, Treasurer Thomas Boyle, Pas Presiden Len Tomassone, former Board m'embers Max Umansky, and Mike Deresh. Presiden Perna asked he members o sand for a momen of silen prayer for he depared men of he Ninh. Thomas Boyle he reasurer was called upon for his repor and he gave a deailed accoun on he income and spending of he associaion for he pas year. Recommend ha all finances and adjusmens ha require he coninual publicaion of he Ocofoil be graned. 3. Coninue he red ink process for delinquens. 4.
