We normally dedicate the meeting and prayers to members that are no longer with us. But this was a solemn moment in the life of Brother Ryan. While our meeting was going on, Brother Ryan was doing his Solemn Profession to the Adorno s in Lodi. For a member of the Adorno s, this Solemn Profession means more to them and their community than the Ordination to the Priesthood. March was a very busy month starting with the St. Joseph s Table chaired by Joe and Maureen Santaniello, followed by the 13 th annual Knights of Columbus Charity Fish Fry s. I would like to thank all of the Knights that have participated in the five fish fry s. We raised over $5,900 for our charities and served over 925 people. Thank you to the Ladies Auxiliary for their help cooking the baked fish and providing the desserts. We have big events coming up in Spartanburg in April and May. We will be working the Mobile Meals Hog Fest in downtown Spartanburg April 17th and 18th. All proceeds will be donated back to Mobile Meals. This is the 3 rd largest barbeque event in SC raising over $80,000 for Mobile Meals last year. Mobile Meals provides 1,500 meals the elderly in In this issue: Grand Knight Perspective 1 Golf Committee News 1 Calendar of Events 2 Birthdays 2 Knightly News St. Joseph s Table 3 Knightly News Easter Egg Hunt 3 Knightly Sporting News 4 New Member Spotlight 5 Good of the Oder 5 Council Directors Page 6 Spartanburg County. We need double the normal numbers of volunteers as we will be manning 2 beer trucks for this event. It takes no formal training only the ability to pour a beer or to take a ticket and hand the customer a beer. It is a great way to have fun and make money for charity. Please ask your friends or wife to help because we really have a lot of slots to fill. May 2nd, 3 rd, and 4 th is Spring Fest in Spartanburg and we will be manning one beer truck for the weekend. Please consider helping for this one as well. This will be our final two big fund raisers for this fiscal year. These special events provide us with the bulk of our funds to give to local charities. Please check your schedule and see if you can help. Thank you to Ron Stanley and all who helped with the Easter egg hunt at the church. It was a great time for all of the youngsters and grown-ups. This month, we welcomed three new young members Thomas M Simmons, Alan Sanders, and Patrick Schwartz, into the Knights. I think this group will be a great addition to our Council. Please make them feel welcome. It is at this time of the year that we start looking for candidates to fill leadership roles in the council. If you have the time and desire to give service to others please let me know, because we are like the Marines, looking for a few good men to lead our Council. If you are interested in a position, please let me know. Thank you. Walk Humbly with Your God Jim Weiskircher Golf Committee News It's never to early to think about our operation hope golf tournament. It will be held October 9th with details to follow. In order to increase revenue and grow our tournament we need your help. We have sent letters out to corporations however we ask that if you work for a company or own a business please think about being a corporate sponsor. Please ask your company if they are interested in helping, we have many ways they can contribute. We can give you a brochure to present to your company. Also, think about playing and having a great time!! Every year it gets better so be part of the fun while helping our charities. If can help, contact: Mike Boncoddo, bridgetandmike@charter.net or The Golf Committee

3 Charity s Trumpet April 2015 Knightly News St. Joseph s Table sponsored by Council 9575 and the Spartanburg Italian American Club. Hosted by our own Joe and Maureen Santaniello, this event is a tradition in Southern Italy. Traditionally held around March 19, the feast of St. Joseph, to thank him for his intersession in relief from a severe drought. The meal and deserts were provided to the participants free of charge. A donation was requested and given to the poor. We collected $ in donations for St. Vincent de Paul Society. Great work Joe and Maureen! 2015 K of C Annual Easter Egg Hunt at JORS 150 kid and adults scramble at the JORS Parish Easter Egg hunt! 500 candy filled eggs were found in under 4 minutes as youngsters from ages 2-6 found the hidden eggs is the 4th year of this even that is conducted by Council A big thanks to Paul Karban and his family, John Carino and his wife, Charlie Sumner, and Bob Tomes for all of their help! Volume 5, Issue 4
4 April 2015 Volume 5, Issue 4 Knightly Sporting News 2015 Softball Season As of the last council meeting the 2015 JORS softball campaign is off to a rocky start. Last years 2nd place finishers have begun the season posting a 1-2 record. According to manager Brian Folkman, this years league is providing stiff competition. There are rumors of potential negotiations with Temple Beth Israel concerning possible trade options for JORS aging pitching staff.
5 April 2015 Volume 5, Issue 4 New Member Spotlight This month, we welcomed three new young members Thomas M Simmons, Alan Sanders, and Patrick Schwartz, into the Knights. This group will be a great addition to our Council. Please make them feel welcome. Thomas Simmons Alan Sanders Patrick Schwartz Good of the Order To do or Not to Do Lent is here and I suspect that you have all decided on what you will do in an effort to make reparation for the sins of the past year. That is what you're doing isn't it. Actually Lent is a time to remind us that we are in need of repentance, and our sacrifices daily keep that message in the forefront of our minds. But I would guess that most of you are Giving Up something, be it sweets, beer, eating after meals, etc. This was, at least in my upbringing, the way you approached Lent. In recent years the message of Positive Penance has been put forth. This, simply stated, is doing something positive, something that is good, something that you haven't been routinely otherwise doing. This can be going to Mass on a weekday, saying the rosary, doing acts of kindness each day, etc. This line of thinking takes me to a deeper subject: salvation. I get the impression that for most Catholics this means going to Mass on the weekend and keeping the Ten Commandments. But if you think about it most of the Commandments that concern how we relate to our brothers and sisters are stated in the Negative. Don't do this, don't do that. You almost get the idea that if you shut yourself up in a room for the rest of your life so you couldn't do any of these don'ts you'd be assured of heaven. Sort of like the servant who buried his talents so the master wouldn't be upset when he returned. You recall what happened to him - he was thrown out into the night amid the wailing and gnashing of teeth. To be Catholic is to relate Positively to our neighbors on this earth. It is to love them in our actions not in our inaction. Feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, clothing the naked, welcoming in the stranger, and visiting the sick, infirm and imprisoned. This, I think, is the principle upon which our final judgment will be based. So this Lent be Positive in your repentance and practice your Faith in the way it was intended by Christ to be lived. May God Bless you, Robert Donofrio
