Members present: Michael Bentke, Shonda Ziese, Hebert Hardan, Susan Henske, Rodney Wittner, Jane Pederson Officers absent: Steve Capan, Steven Ramirez, Jeanette Ford Pastor Katrina gave the opening prayer. The council minutes and financial reports were approved. Committee Reports: Pastor s report - was read and approved. Cindy s report - was read and approved. Building & Grounds Rock has been delivered and spread in the back to fill in the hole next to dumpster.

2 Pole saw has been donated and they are in the process of trimming trees. Lights have been worked on to help increase the lighting in front of Church. A bid has been received and approved to have the two trees in front of the church removed and grind the stumps. Parish Education VBS material has been ordered. Stewardship Nothing new to report Worship Committee Looking for volunteers to fold newsletters. Witness Nothing new to report. Agenda Items: Church directory - Council approved Lifetouch for the directory, looking for volunteers to coordinate with Lifetouch. Wedding policy -we currently have 2 policies on hand they are being reviewed and updated. Request to purchase new vacuum cleaner was approved. Exits signs need to be repaired Rodney will replace bulbs. There being no further business or discussion, the meeting was adjourned. Pastor Katrina closed with the Lord s Prayer. Respectfully submitted, Shonda Ziese Don t Forget that Volunteers are needed Monday, April 2 nd, for the Lutheran World Relief Project! The Lutheran World Relief Project gathering point and loading dock for quilts and health kits is April 2 nd here at Zion. Volunteers are needed to assist with unloading individual cars and loading the transport truck. Please come and help if you can, we will begin around 8 am. If you can help or have any questions, you may contact Bernadine It s time again to update our church directory. We will need someone to help coordinate the members photo sessions; the church council is asking for a volunteers to help coordinate this project. If you would be interested in assisting, please contact Michael Bentke or one of the council members. Thank You!

3 Pastor s Message: Always Good News These days, you would be hard pressed to find a person without a cell phone. (Especially if you are looking at people between the ages of 15 and 75.) Cell phones are everywhere! And before anyone starts lamenting the negative side of the cell phone, I want you to think back to when cell phones were brand-new. I was 20 when I got my first cell phone, and it was so cool! Suddenly, I could call anyone from anywhere I happened to be. I didn t have to remember their phone numbers either; I could store all the phone numbers I needed most in the phone! Looking back, that first cell phone wasn t much: it wasn t a smart phone (those hadn t been invented yet, kids); I couldn t really send text messages with it; it didn t flip closed or lock, so pocket dialing was a problem; and it didn t take pictures. But when I first got that phone, man did it seem so awesome! Now, after having had a cell phone for many years, I am not always amazed by them. You probably aren t either. Sure, each new generation of smart phone is a little cooler, a little more sophisticated, but for the most part, we aren t as amazed with them as we were when we saw our first cell phone or our first iphone. They have become so common place that we forget what amazing pieces of technology they really are. We could say something similar about Easter. When we first hear the story of the Resurrection, we are surprised and awed and humbled by the work of the Lord. But as time goes by, it doesn t always strike our hearts the way it did at first. Holy Week may seem like just another week; the Sunday of the Resurrection may seem like just another weekend in spring. How can you be surprised and amazed by the story if you know what s going to happen next? But the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ is always good news. It is the Good News! And it is Good News regardless of our state of mind or our reaction to it. This is the story of God acting for us, for all humanity, for all time. Christ Jesus, God s only begotten Son, was put to death by human violence, but God raised him from the dead on the third day to show for once and for all that violence and hate would not have the last word. God s gracious love is greater than sin, greater even than death itself! By his death on the cross, our Savior destroyed the power of death, and by his rising, He extends an invitation to us to join him in glory at his everlasting feast. The event we celebrate at Easter was Good News 2000 years ago, it is Good News now, and it will be Good News 2000 years into the future! The Easter story is always and forever Good News. 4 Youth News UPCOMING EVENTS April 1 st Easter Egg Hunt for children up to 6 th grade. April 15 th JOLT Confirmation Class will be helping at the baseball game for the Miracle League in Bellville, Texas. April 22 nd Youth will be having a Bake Sale after church. Proceeds help to cover the cost of youth going to the ELCA Youth Gathering. Congratulations to Aiden Keller, Haylie Niemeyer and Brady Rau for completing the First Communion instructions and receiving the Sacraments of Holy Communion. Thanks to Curtis Orts, Leah Blum, Jill Rosenbaum, Mason Elledge, Kaden Stewart, and Brazos Supak for helping move plants at Festival Hill for the Herb Society. They worked hard and got the job done. Thanks to you all. Thanks to everyone who came to the dinners before Lent Services. I truly enjoyed cooking for you all and the monies went to the youth traveling to the ELCA Youth Gathering. Thanks to Judy Jeske, Walline Lorenz and Joyce Boeker for the delicious desserts and pickles. They helped complete the meal!! Also a big thank you to all who brought food to help complete the last meal of baked ham. It was a feast made for a king and queen. All of it was delicious! Thanks again for sharing in the meals.
