1 Zion Lutheran Church Sunday May 28, 2017 Pastor Jill Vivroux presiding We Prepare for Worship OPENING HYMN Hands and Knees Hands and knees to do the things that please You, Hands and knees to worship and adore. Hands to help and hold, to lift up, to console. Knees to bend down low, to worship, to follow. Hands and knees to do the things that please You, Lord. (Repeat) WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS SHARING OF THE PEACE The peace of the Lord be with you always And also with you (Please share the Peace of the Lord with those around you, especially with any worshippers you may not know.) CALL TO WORSHIP We are called to be the body of Christ, We are the ones called to serve as Christ in this world. We are called to share in the gifts of the Spirit, We are the ones who teach, care, and love as Christ loves us. We are called to bring the Good News, We are the ones who proclaim Christ s death and resurrection until Christ comes again. Come, worship God, All: Who dwells in us as the body of Christ in this world. Amen. PRAYER OF THE DAY (in unison) Spirit of Life, breathe new life into us. We are weary from the events of the world; we are drawing inside and becoming numb because of all the betrayal and devastation we experience around us. Breathe new life into us, so that our own spirits may rise again. Breathe new life into us, so that we may be renewed and restored. Breathe new life into us, so that we may once again hear Your call to go as healers into a broken world. Breathe new life into us, so that we encourage one another. In the name of Christ, who taught us how to breathe in this world, we pray. Amen.
2 REPRISE Hands and Knees Hands and knees to do the things that please You, Hands and knees to worship and adore. Hands to help and hold, to lift up, to console. Knees to bend down low, to worship, to follow. Hands and knees to do the things that please You, Lord. (Repeat) CHILDREN S MESSAGE The First Reading Acts 1:6-14 This is the Word of the Lord We Hear God s Word Thanks be to God! The Second Reading 1 Peter 4:12-14; 5:6-11 This is the Word of the Lord Thanks be to God! MESSAGE The Gospel Reading John 17:1-11 This is the Word of the Lord Thanks be to God! Pastor Jill Vivroux We Respond to God s Grace SONG OF THE DAY Crown Him With Many Crowns 1) Crown Him with many crowns, the Lamb upon His throne Hark! How the heav nly anthem drowns all music but its own; Awake, my soul, and sing of Him who died for thee, And hail Him as thy matchless King through all eternity. 2) Crown Him the Lord of life, Who triumphed o er the grave, Who rose victorious in the strife for those He came to save; His glories now we sing, Who died and rose on high, Who died eternal life to bring and lives that death may die. 3) Crown Him the Lord of heav n, enthroned in worlds above, Crown Him the King to Whom is giv n the wond rous name of love; Crown Him with many crowns as thrones before Him fall, Crown Him ye kings with many crowns for He is King of all. AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (in unison) I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen
3 THE OFFERING Special music by the Zion Worship Team (The Noisy Offerings in May will be donated to help defray medical expenses for Lauren (Blum) Rupe) OFFERTORY RESPONSE I Love You, Lord I love You, Lord, and I lift my voice - to worship You, O my soul, rejoice! Take joy, my King, in what You hear, may it be a sweet, sweet sound in Your ear. (Repeat) PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer We Share in Christ s Meal WORDS OF CONSECRATION THE LORD S PRAYER (in unison) Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen DISTRIBUTION OF HOLY COMMUNION (All who believe that Christ died for their sins are welcome at the Table of Grace. Children who do not yet receive Communion receive a blessing. If you prefer grape juice, it is the clear liquid in the center of the tray.) My Country, Tis of Thee 1) My country, tis of thee, Sweet land of liberty, Of thee I sing; Land where my fathers died, Land of the pilgrims pride, From ev ry mountainside let freedom ring. 2) My native country, thee, Land of the noble free, Thy name I love; I love Thy rocks and rills, Thy woods and templed hills; My heart with rapture thrills Like that above. 3) Let music swell the breeze, and ring from all the trees Sweet freedom s song. Let mortal tongues awake; Let all that breathe partake; Let rocks their silence break, the sound prolong. 4) Our fathers God, to Thee, Author of liberty, to Thee we sing; Long may our land be bright with freedom s holy light. Protect us by Thy might, Great God, our King.
4 Beautiful Savior 1) Beautiful Savior, King of creation, Son of God and Son of Man! Truly I'd love Thee, Truly I'd serve Thee, Light of my soul, my joy, my crown. 2) Fair are the meadows, Fair are the woodlands, Robed in flow'rs of blooming spring; Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer, He makes our sorrowing spirit sing. 3) Fair is the sunshine, Fair is the moonlight, Bright the sparkling stars on high; Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer, Than all the angels in the sky. 4) Beautiful Savior, Lord of the nations, Son of God and Son of Man! Glory and honor, Praise, adoration, Now and forever more be Thine! Wind of the Spirit Wind of the Spirit, Move fresh as we worship, And fill us with hope ev'ry day. Breath of creation, Blow life in our being, And gift us with purpose, we pray. So our life is filled with meaning, and love is what we're breathing In the wind of the Spirit, Wind of the Spirit. COMMUNION BLESSING We Depart with Joy THE BENEDICTION (Sunday school students and teachers are dismissed to Sunday school during the sending song) SENDING SONG The Spirit Sends Us Forth to Serve 1) The Spirit sends us forth to serve; we go in Jesus name To bring glad tidings to the poor, God s favor to proclaim. 3) We go to be the hands of Christ, to scatter joy like seed And, all our days, to cherish life, to do the loving deed. SENDING Grounded in faith Gathered in love Engaging the world with God s amazing grace Thanks be to God.
