All members were present except for Jeanette Ford and Jon Little. The council minutes and financial report for March were approved. Committee reports: Pastor Report Pastor Jill submitted her report. She also mentioned that the call committee is making great progress. She said she is working with Pastor Denise from Rehburg Lutheran, on hosting an appreciation breakfast for the firemen, first responders and sheriff deputies who serve our area in June. Her report was approved unanimously. Building & Grounds Carol Gaskamp mentioned that a new handicap rail has been installed in the men s bathroom and Shonda Ziese mentioned that

2 several lights in the Family Life Center need to be replaced. Parish Education Matt Supak reported that his committee is planning for VBS which will be held the week of July 23 rd during the evening. He also mentioned that they re working on Hee Haw and it will be held on April 30 th. Stewardship Herbert Hardin said his committee is working on planning the October Chicken Fried Steak dinner and that the proceeds will be designated to the cemeteries. Worship Shonda Ziese reported that her committee is discussing an idea for a friendly challenge for Mother s and Father s Days. It s about seeing how many attendees will attend each of those days and seeing who can sing the loudest with a hymn fest. Another idea is having a pulpit exchange with Emmanuel Greenvine on June 11 th as our choir will be gone that Sunday. Zion would get Pastor Mark and the Hilltop Ramblers and Pastor Jill would go to Emmanuel The youth report was presented and approved. AGENDA A bid has been received from Sound Distributors for microphones to replace the broken ones. The bid is $ and the council voted to accept this bid. The oil lease contract was discussed and the council asked Steve Capan to work with the company to complete the lease. Kim Cmajdalka and Steve Capan reported that they have been working with a committee to improve and redo the church s website and that they are happy with the progress being made. The budget for the call committee was tabled until next month. The feasibility of a security lock and intercom for the front door/key pad was discussed and the firm that installed the doors is to be contacted to check on it. There being no further discussion or business, the meeting was adjourned by Carol Gaskamp. The committee closed with The Lord s Prayer. We have recently received several compliments on our congregational singing, which makes me very proud. Many times, when I am in the balcony before the Hymn of the Day, I often think of how great it would sound if the church was full and we were singing at full blast! So, a friendly challenge: let's try to fill the church on Mothers Day (May 14) & Fathers Day (June 18). We will sing very familiar songs and see how much quality volume we can produce! The friendly competition will be how many people are in worship. Start getting those family members and neighbors to jot it down on their calendars. I hope we can have people even sitting in the balcony!! Allison

3 For as in one body we have many members, and not all the members have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members of one another. Romans 12:4-5 Together, we are entering into our fourth month of ministry. It has been an extremely rewarding and positive experience for me. As I reflect on this time, I realize that I am filled with hope as I see the ways in which God is active and working in and among you here at Zion. One of the things that I have learned about you, the people of Zion, is that you are a fairly young congregation that is filled with a great deal of energy. Yes, I said young congregation! As I was pulling data together for the Call Committee to complete a section for the Ministry Site Profile (MSP), I came upon the following statistics: Age Range Percentage of Congregation 19 & below 21% % % % 65 plus 30% Maybe it is because I am in the 50 plus category and I still consider myself as being young, but when I see these stats, I see a young and thriving congregation that has so much potential. So often, rural congregations look at what they don t have and mostly they see themselves as not having a strong representation of younger folks. Here at Zion, there is a good mix. Within each age group there are varying gifts and I see how you appreciate those gifts and utilize them. This is something to celebrate! God is doing a new and good thing here at Zion. Rejoice in this! Continue in the good work that is taking place here and in being the One body of Christ. I give God thanks for you, the people of Zion! In God s Love and Peace, Pastor Jill Camp Sunday May June 4 June 11 Dates for calendar Synod Assembly Camp Sunday We welcome Hilltop Ramblers On Sunday, June 4, we will have a blessing for all of our youth who will attend camp or work there. Worship will be centered around the camping theme, singing our favorite camp songs. Let s get into the camping spirit by wearing your favorite Lutherhill T-Shirt (or other favorite camp). It will be a fun Sunday, come and join us as we bless our youth for their summer camping adventures all while praising our AWESOME GOD.

4 The Call Committee is on track to complete and review the Ministry Site Profile with the Council by the May 17th target date that was established. The Ministry Site Profile is used by the Synod office to help select candidates for us to consider, and by the candidates to gain an understanding of our Ministry. The Committee wishes to express thanks to the congregation for their support and participation the past couple of months. As May turns to June we will begin moving to the interview phase of the process. Updated meeting dates for the committee - we will meet only on the 23rd and 30th during May. Brandon Keller We would like to give special recognition this month to all the Mothers, Grandmothers, Great-Grandmothers and Special Mothers in our congregation for all the caring and love they bestow on their families, friends and acquaintances throughout the year. May your Mothers Day be filled with only sunshine and God s richest blessings.

5 ! Congrats to the first ever set of twins who have won the Bluebonnet Electric Scholarships!! Emily Conner received the Academic Scholarship and Matthew Conner received the Trade and Technical Scholarship. The awards were based on the essays that they wrote and Emily had four to write and Matthew had one. Way to go Emily and Matthew. We are all so proud of you and your parents too!!! Congrats to Jill Rosenbaum for making the Brenham Belles Dance Team for Brenham High School!! Way to go Jill we will be watching you on the Football field!! Team Sean Rosenbaum and Kullen Herms with the Brenham Anglers Bass Club placed 41 st out of 204 teams at the Texas High School Bass Fishing Assoc. Regional Tournament on April 15 th. They now qualify for the state championship at Lake Ray Roberts on May 20 th. Way to fish guys and good luck in May.! Congrats to Ella Pieper who was inducted into the Jr. National Honor Society. Very proud of you!!! Congrats also to Jenna Hardy, Arabella Maitland, Cara Davis and Mason Elledge who received their 8 th grade watches for having a 90+ grade average their 7 th and part of 8 th grade grades. So proud of your accomplishments!! Congrats to Arabella Maitland who has been selected to be a part of the Brenham High School Dance Team. Also for her 2 nd place Platinum award in Crystal contemporary solo division at her dance competition in Pflugerville. Her dance team also placed 4 first places and 3 out of 4 overall. One busy weekend for Arabella and congrats to her and her dance mates.! Congratulations to all of Washington County baseball and softball players. Win or lose the game you played with all of your heart and mind and made your parents proud!!! I want to thank everyone who bought tickets to our 2017 Hee Haw Show and dinner. Even though it has not happened yet I know it is going to be a success. How can it not be. Thanks to our amazing band A-Z Adam Greer, Gary Wagner, Craig Conner, Kweyn Emshoff, Allison Crowson, and Robert Zientek!! You guys rock! And thanks to Minnie Pearl (Allison), Red Neck Veryl Neumann, Jethro Chadd Neumann, Tim Wellmann, Joy Fuchs, Pam Bothe, Lisa Conner, Kyla Cmadjalka, Emily Conner, Jenna Hardy, Lean Hardy, Luke Hardy, Allison Marburger, Brazos Supak, Bobbi Jo Supak and the many many more youth! And a big thank you to Judy Jeske for her amazing decorations of bird houses and to Melissa and Ryan Raley for the use of the hay. We have so much talent here at Zion. Thank you all who helped in any way! We are so blessed! Hollywood here we come!

6 ! Congratulations to Braden Roehling, Nathan Simons and Cody Supak who received their First Communion on Maundy Thursday. May God bless you always.! If you missed our Good Friday service you missed a wonderful service. The 7 th and 8 th grade Confirmation class Ella Pieper, Gavin Blum, Leah Hardy (who stood in for Kara Meyer who was ill), Jenna Hardy, Arabella Maitland, Cara Davis and Mason Elledge presented a Journey of the Gospel. These youth did a fantastic job and I am very proud of them all. We hope to see you next year.! I want to give a Big Thank You to Deanna Elledge, Darlene Gaskamp, Veryl Neumann, and Leah Blum who helped in making 4000 party pacs for the MS 150 Bike ride. What a blessing you are and I know that the Bellville Lions Club and all the bikers really appreciate it! Now let s eat and encourage the bike riders especially Bishop Mike and Pastor Blair!! Graduation is soon approaching for our 2017 graduating class. Congrats to Emily Conner, Matthew Conner, Sean Rosenbaum and Ethan Orts who will be graduating from Brenham High School and to Justin Blum who is graduating from Travis B Bryan High School!! Best wishes to you all.! Join us on May 21 st as we honor all of the Moms, Dads, Confirmands and Graduation students (High School and College)! Summer is fast approaching and if any youth who would like to go to Lutherhill and have not signed up yet you might want to do so quickly Camp is filling up.
