Israel s strength and consolation, Hope of all the earth thou art, Dear desire of every nation, Joy of ev ry longing heart. WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS SHARING OF THE PEACE The peace of the Lord be with you always And also with you (Please share the Peace of the Lord with those around you, especially with any worshippers you may not know.) CALL TO WORSHIP Blessed is he who comes as king, who comes in the name of the Lord. Glory to God in the highest, and peace to God s people on earth. I will hear what the Lord God has to say a voice that speaks for peace. Peace for all people and for God s friends and those who turn to the Lord in their hearts. God s help is near for those who fear him, and his glory will live in our land. Blessed is he who comes as king, who comes in the name of the Lord. PRAYER OF THE DAY (in unison) Stir up the wills of your faithful people, Lord God, and open our ears to the words of your prophets, that, anointed by your Spirit, we may testify to your light; through Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. 2 CHILDREN S MESSAGE We Hear God s Word The First Reading Isaiah 61:1-4, 8-11 This is the Word of the Lord The Second Reading 1 Thessalonians 5:16-24 This is the Word of the Lord The Gospel Reading John 1:6-8, This is the Word of the Lord Thanks be to God! Thanks be to God! Thanks be to God! MESSAGE Pastor Katrina Walther We Respond to God s Grace SONG OF THE DAY Canticle of the Turning 1) My soul cries out with a joyful shout that the God of my heart is great, and my spirit sings of the wondrous things that you bring to the ones who wait. You fixed your sight on your servant s plight, and my weakness you did not spurn, So from east to west shall my name be blest. Could the world be about to turn? (Refrain) My heart shall sing of the day you bring. Let the fires of your justice burn. Wipe away all tears, for the dawn draws near, and the world is about to turn. 2) Though I am small, my God, my all, you work great things in me, And your mercy will last from the depths of the past to the end of the age to be. Your very name puts the proud to shame, and to those who would for you yearn, You will show your might, put the strong to flight, for the world is about to turn. (Refrain) 3) From the halls of power to the fortress tower, not a stone will be left on stone. Let the king beware for your justice tears ev ry tyrant from his throne. (Refrain) 4) Though the nations rage from age to age, we remember who holds us fast: God s mercy must deliver us from the conqueror s crushing grasp. This saving word that our forebears heard is the promise which holds us bound, Till the spear and rod can be crushed by God, who is turning the world around. (Refrain) AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (in unison) I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen

Children who do not yet receive Communion receive a blessing. If you prefer grape juice, it is the clear liquid in the center of the tray.) OH, COME, OH, COME, EMMANUEL 1) Oh come, oh come, Emmanuel, and ransom captive Israel, That mourns in lonely exile here until the Son of God appear (Refrain) Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to you, O Israel 2) Oh, come, oh, come great Lord of might, who to your tribes on Sinai s height In ancient times once gave the law in cloud, and majesty, and awe. (Refrain) 3) O, come, strong Branch of Jesse, free your own from Satan s tyranny; From depths of hell your people save and give them victory o er the grave. (Refrain) Here Is Bread 1) Here is bread, here is wine, Christ is with us, he is with us. Break the bread, taste the wine, Christ is with us here.
