Gus Lohrum, Pastor Mary Puraty, Office Secretary Bob Schlabach, Music Director Liz Vantrease and Marilyn Schlabach, Musicians Jane Perry, Custodian At this time of the year I say the same thing I say at the end of every school year. It seems like this year flew by quicker than last year. Before we know it the time will be here to put up Christmas decorations in the sanctuary. Ephesians 5:15-16 states, Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men, but as wise making the most of your time because the days are evil. If nothing else, our days go by quickly and this is why I mentioned at this past week s council meeting that I will be gathering some leaders together to plan our congregational life for the remainder of the year. First we will identify the things we normally do and then we will plug in additional events and experiences we trust will help us deepen our experience of God. Most of all, our goal will be to make plans that will help those who are searching for God to experience him among us. My hope is that after the initial meeting with church leaders we will consider ways to get input from any one who has a suggestion. Please feel invited to offer suggestions to our church leaders and be in prayer for our leaders as we make plans that we desire to be in tune with God s purposes for our congregation. Protection Advice Against The Sun s Rays The American Cancer Society estimates that one in five people will develop some form of skin cancer in their lifetime. Protect you and your family by following these suggestions. Wear clothing that protects as much skin as possible Use sunscreen that has a minimum SPF 15 with UVA or UVB protection and re-apply sunscreen frequently Reduce your expose to the sun Take advantage of shaded areas when you are outside If you are taking prescription or over-thecounter medication, your risk of sunburn will probably be increased Spotlight Corner UMCOR United Methodist Committee on Relief responds to natural or civil disasters that are interruptions of such magnitude that they overwhelm a community's ability to recover on its own. UMCOR's work on behalf of United Methodists is global and includes countries in Africa, Asia, Central and South America, the Caribbean. UMCOR serves in long-term disaster recovery in the United States. The immediate goal of UMCOR's international and domestic emergency response programs is to provide relief and rehabilitation for the entire person-physical, social, and psychological-in a distress situation. UMCOR always works to enable those affected by disasters to take responsibility for relief and recovery work. Wherever possible, UMCOR forms partnerships with other religious and secular organizations to pool resources and avoid duplicating efforts. UMCOR provides long-term recovery as well as immediate relief. Recognizing that disasters cause disruptions that can last for years and often create permanent changes in people's lives, UMCOR works within a community to address the long-term effects of a disaster and assist people in rebuilding and adjusting to change. UMCOR maintains a corps of trained disaster response specialists for quick reinforcement of local efforts, and it keeps a supply of relief materials in warehouses for dispatch when and where required.
