Box 72 Phone (731) Fax (731) Read the biblical stories when there was a change in leaders and one thing you find is that the change in leaders was not the real issue in the story. The real issue as change in leadership took place was that the people continue in faithful obedience to God. Moses was followed by Joshua. Read Deuteronomy 31:9-13 and you find that Moses was concerned with whether the people would be faithfully obedient to God. Read on in that same chapter to verses and Moses seems pessimistic about his people. The issue in that chapter isn t on the change in leadership; but faithfulness to God. The book of Joshua 24 is where we find the account of Joshua s leadership coming to an end as he turned over the leadership to his elders. No name is given of a particular person designated to lead Israel. The issue in Joshua 24:14 is how faithful will the people be? Matthew 28:16-20 describes the leadership of Jesus ending. Jesus himself charged his disciples to be faithfully obedient to the mission that he began. If the party didn t stop when Jesus left, then the clear message of scripture is that leaders/pastors will come and go; but the issue is how faithfully engaged are you in the ministry of the church? God has used over the centuries a variety of leaders; not a one size fits all approach. What is at stake is whether Christians will be faithful to God in the purposes and plans God has for each and every congregation. So my prayer and encouragement is that you will demonstrate your faithfulness to God with support and encouragement to Pastor Lea. The stories of the Newbern and Mt. Carmel churches are still being written and God is expecting and watching to see your faithful obedience be a part of that story. Carmel Extended Ministry Charge in the Dyersburg District. As you know, the appointments are set at the meeting of the Memphis Annual Conference, but at this time the projection is official. June 19th is the official moving date and June 25th will be Rev. Thornton s first Sunday in the pulpit. Rev.
