4 MISSIONS FEBRUARY MISSIONS Continuing Support of I-Help throughout February BLOOD DRIVE Thank you to everyone who donated blood on February 12! We had a very successful blood drive and appreciate all our donors who helped fill a need in our community. Natalie Martinez, our donor recruitment representative, had these kind words to say: At the blood drive, 20 lifesaving donors stepped up to donate, resulting in 17 procedures for our community and reaching 106% of your blood drive goal. Your effort and the support of Chandler United Methodist Church are greatly appreciated and will go a long way toward assuring a strong blood supply, and ultimately saving lives. Again, thank you for your contribution and ongoing support of the community blood program. I-HELP ASSISTANCE Throughout February, the Missions Team is supporting the homeless by collecting travel-size toiletries for our I-HELP guests. The Interfaith Homeless Emergency Lodging Program (I-HELP) is the only homeless shelter in Chandler. Moving from church to church with 17 churches participating, up to 25 guests are given a warm place to sleep, a hot meal, breakfast, and a sack lunch. The guests must be registered through Chandler Christian Community Center and be working toward goals set with case managers. CHANDLER CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY CENTER FOOD BANK Friday, February 17 8:30 am - 10:00 am Chandler United Methodist Church and Chandler Christian Community Center have been working together to help feed the hungry in Chandler for more than 50 years. CCCC s mission is to change lives by nourishing minds and bodies to create a connected, thriving community. Their vision is to have a healthy and productive community built on a foundation of dignity and hope. Twenty-five (25) volunteers from Chandler UMC are needed each third Friday from 8:30 am-10:00 to help distribute food to those in need at CCCC s facility located at 345 S California Street, Chandler. If you would like to make a difference in our community and join the Missions Team, please contact any member of the Team or the church office or just show up at a meeting! We meet the second Sunday of each month at 11:30 am. * * * * * * * * SPECIAL REQUEST: Chandler Christian Community Center (CCCC)needs volunteers to help distribute perishable foods on the second Friday of every month. We will continue our regular distribution on the third Friday. If you are able to temporarily help fill this need for the second Friday of the month, CCCC will be extremely grateful. Please arrive at CCCC by 8:30 AM. I-HELP clients use travel-size toiletries provided by the host churches to keep clean and ready for work, job interviews and personal hygiene. NEEDED ITEMS: Toothbrushes and toothpastes (high demand items) Feminine hygiene products (tampons and pads) Razors for men and women Shampoos, conditioners Deodorants Soaps Lotions Please be sure all items are travel size and easy to carry. Homeless people have no place to store their toiletries, so smaller is always better. Chandler UMC hosts I-HELP on the second and fifth Saturdays of the month. We recently hosted on February 11th and had 27 volunteers assist with setting up and serving a meal of smoked pork bar-b-que. The guests and volunteers enjoyed a hearty, delicious dinner and wonderful music as a group of musicians came to share their talents with our guests. Thank you to all of our volunteers who helped make the night such a success. If you would like to participate in an I-HELP service night, contact Steve Gregory at steve.chandlerumc@gmail.com. Any night in which you serve at I-HELP, you will leave feeling overwhelmed by the gracious spirit of people who are so thankful that you took the time to help and serve them.

6 DESERT SOUTHWEST CONFERENCE 2017 LAY SERVANT MINISTRIES TRAINING The purpose of Lay Servant Ministries is to enlist, train, guide and support lay servants as they equip and prepare others for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:12). Lay Servant Ministries is deeply embedded in the history of United Methodism, as John Wesley realized the laity could be effective leaders of meetings throughout the church. Roles included leadership in preaching and conducting worship but also leadership in leading studies, visiting the sick and imprisoned. Lay Servants were encouraged to watch over one another with love. The three tenets of Lay Servant Ministries are LEADING, CARING, and COMMUNICATING in mission and ministry within and beyond the Church. UPCOMING TRAINING: February St. Matthew UMC, Mesa Basic Course Intro to Lay Servant Ministry Life Together in the United Methodist Connection To register, please go to: mesa/ CONNECTIONS...
