Mosaic Sunday Small Groups We meet in the Soul Café beginning at 10:45 for fellowship, then gather in discussion groups offering a time for community, exploration, and growth. If this is your first time in awhile, ever, or in the last fews weeks, these small groups will provide a great opportunity to connect with other young adults and build friendships and faith together. North Central District Laity Day with the Bishop Sunday, March 3:00 FUMC Frisco Plan to attend this opportunity for all members of the United Methodist churches in the North Central District of the North Texas Conference to gather as one with Bishop McKee. It is a time for you to come hear Bishop McKee address vital issues related to the NTC and the UMC while he shares his heart felt concerns regarding the future of our churches. There will be time set aside for Bishop McKee to address questions from those present. Spring Break Mission Opportunity Our church will be providing sack lunches to the children at Basswood Manor during spring break, March We will purchase the food, make sandwiches and deliver the lunches. We are asking Sunday School classes or other small groups to commit to a day. If you would like to volunteer or need more information, please contact Joey Dean at (214) or japan4joey@gmail.com. Details about what is needed can be found on our website under the SERVE tab. Brown Bag Bible Study On Tuesday, March 4, come and join the Brown Bag Bible Study! We will be reading and discussing Hard to Dance with the Devil on Your Back by Ray Buckley. This seven session Lenten study will help us exchange our way of seeing ourselves and the world for God s way. We meet at 10:30 am in room 125 in the main building. Lynda@firstlewisville.org Our communion offering on March 2 will benefit The World Service Fund (WSF) of the United Methodist Church. The WSF is the essential core of our denomination's global outreach. By giving to the WSF, we empower efforts by United Methodists in locales all over the world to form new faith communities, share God's word, make disciples, and help God s children.

2 The Season of Len What Can 10,000 United Methodists Accomplish Together? Several months ago, Bishop Michael McKee posed this question and gave the churches of the North Texas Conference a challenge for the 40-day season of Lent, which begins on March 5th. Here's the challenge: 1) forgo one meal each week, 2) devote that meal time to reading God's Word and to prayer, and 3) donate the money that would been spent on the food for that meal to a ministry that is combatting hunger. 10,000 United Methodists, all fasting once a week, could awaken in our churches a new level of spiritual hunger and help us learn how to live "not by bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord" (Deuteronomy 8:3). 10,000 United Methodists, all reading and reflecting on God's Word, could deepen our love for God and inspire us to make an impact in our communities in new and life-changing ways. 10,000 United Methodists, all praying for our leadership, our sister churches throughout the North Texas Conference, our own local churches, our local communities, and ourselves, could help unite us more strongly in love and recognize a fresh wind of the Holy Spirit blowing at our backs. 10,000 United Methodists, all donating $5 per meal for 7 weeks, could direct $350,000 toward ministries combatting hunger in our area. As your pastor and spiritual leader, I want to invite you to join me and embrace this challenge for Lent. Beginning the week of Ash Wednesday, March 5, let's fast, read, pray and give together. At First U.M.C. of Lewisville, we will be reading our way through Mark's Gospel. Below is a reading plan that is coordinated with a Lent sermon series based on Mark, so we can be on the same page throughout the week and gather on Sundays in Lent to celebrate what we are learning. Each week, as you save your "lunch money," I want to encourage you to set it aside in a special place. Maybe a jar on your kitchen table or a dish on your mantle. Somewhere where you will see it throughout the week and be reminded of this spiritual journey. Then, bring what you have saved to worship on Palm Sunday, April 13. At First Lewisville, we will pool these funds and divide them evenly between two causes: the North Texas Food Bank and the United Methodist "Zip Code Project," which aims to combat hunger and literally eradicate extreme "asset-based poverty" in the two most impoverished zip codes within the bounds of our North Texas Conference is in south Dallas, and is in northeast Texas. Let's link arms with other United Methodists and make Lent in 2014 a life-changing time of year! In addition to praying, singing, and hearing the Word read and proclaimed, we will participate in the historic ritual of the imposition of the ashes. Prior to the service at 6:00 pm, we will share a simple fellowship meal in Soul Café. Wednesday Evening Vespers Each Wednesday (beginning March 12) at 6:30 pm during Lent we will gather for a quiet time of worship. Communion will be served. April 13 King Jesus April 20 The Floodgates Opened Study Spiritual Explorations Class 7:00-8:00 pm Wednesdays in Lent March 19 and 26, April 2 and 9 This 4-week class will be a great way to explore and perhaps expand your walk with God. You will sample different ways of praying together and also will experience group spiritual direction.* You even will have the opportunity to sample an individual session (optional) with a spiritual director who can accompany you in exploring where God is moving in your life right now. This class will be a great way to move forward in living faith during the season of Lent! Spiritual Explorations will be led by Rev. Brian Hardesty-Crouch. Brian is an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church and a trained Spiritual Director. *Spiritual Direction encourages you to explore a closer relationship with God. In the midst of a busy life, many people find it difficult to notice God's action in their daily affairs. Yet, at the deepest level, all of us long for a more conscious experience of God's presence and love. In spiritual direction, you reflect deeply on the experiences of your daily life and gradually come to recognize God's hand in your life.
