1 First United Methodist Church 103 W Main Street P.O. Box 72 Phone (731) Fax (731) Message from Rev. Lea It s hard to believe but the school year is in full swing. And with the advent of the new year, our ACTS kids have been talking about what it means to be a new creation. During the month of August, we talked about 2 Corinthians 5:17, "So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!" We have challenged the children & youth to think about the ways God helps us to be new creations. We first asked them to think about something they have at home that once looked pretty, shiny, and new that now looks old and dingy. They were very quick to offer many suggestions - shoes, toys, and clothes were the most popular responses. The next week, they were asked to think about how they would feel if those things were suddenly new again. I explained that God creates newness in our hearts and lives when we seek Him and ask Him to guide us. The next week they were to think about one behavior or action that they do (or have done) that could be changed because of God's presence in their lives. I loved the responses...a couple popular responses were, "treat our friends better"..."listen to our parents." I'm sure that the list could go on. I share this with you with the thought of "a little child shall lead" in mind. For us, as adults, what are the things that need to change in our hearts and minds because of the presence, guidance, and love of God? How can we live into the newness of life Christ offers to us in ways that will touch others? What are we willing to sacrifice in our own lives so that others might know about God? I heard my momma talking about Depot Days and I think that's something I would like. I wonder if she will let me go with her. I love to see (and bark at) Kibbles people. Although the planter downtown that has the & Bits face on it - whew - it gets me every time. I would love to have a play mate - but mom says I'm enough work all by myself. So, I guess that means my friends will just have to come by for a visit. (And bring treats...but don't tell mom.) Woof! Ellie

Jacob Stewart recovering from concussion incurred during football practice. Will have very limited activity for 3 weeks. Wilda Giles (Suzanne Harrington) Having tests after PET scan revealed suspicious spots. 12-year cancer survivor. Karen Kesterson Secretary at DFUMC (Faye Greene) GI problems. Diagnosis unfound. Betty Holland Please remember her in prayer. Hunter Bolden (grandson of Joan & Buddy Jones) Left for the National Guard on Thursday. His pregnant wife was involved in an auto accident; however, both are okay. Eddie Bryant Morgan Matson (10-month-old great-granddaughter of Patsy Tidwell had surgery on August 29 th Donald H.
