3 FROM THE PASTOR S COMPUTER: Hopefully by Tuesday, February 7 th, the new Salem Lutheran Church website will have been launched at salemportlavaca.org. You will be able to tell that it has been launched because you will actually recognize the pictures of our sanctuary entrance, the stained glass window and the other pictures from around our property. As you wander around our new website, you will notice that there are a number of places that have headings that don t have any further information. Those would be the spots where I need your help. Unlike each of the other websites that have been out there on the internet that have said they were our website, this website is special because Terri Malaer and I have received training on how to edit the content within this new website. When it appears this week or next, but by the 7 th, it will have current information to the best of our abilities. Most of the January Salem Star (our newsletter) and the current calendar will be included in the website. What Terri and I need is short descriptions of the ministries like the prayer chain, Harvest Kitchen, Home Communion teams and Clothing God s Children. When we receive informative descriptions that we can use within the website we will get them uploaded ASAP! Your servant in Christ,

4 FEBRUARY ANNOUNCEMENTS The new 2017 Salem Lutheran Church Telephone Directory is ready and available for you to pick up in the Narthex! Copies of the 2016 SLC Annual report are available in the Narthex if you didn t get one yet. Just pick one up! It is our turn! February is Salem s month for collecting canned goods or non perishable food items for the Calhoun County Food Pantry! The food pantry is particularly in need of: Canned Fruit, Mac n Cheese and Hamburger Helper Instant Potatoes and Instant Dry Milk (3.2 oz sizes) and canned meats like Chili and Chicken Chancel Choir Schedule: February 1st - Rehearsal; 7 p.m. February 8th - Rehearsal; 7 p.m. February 12th - Worship February 15th - Rehearsal; 7 p.m. February 22nd - Rehearsal; 7 p.m. February 26th - Worship First Engligh Lutheran Church has invited anyone to BUNCO on February 6, Registration is at 5:30, eat at 6 and play starts at 7PM No costs, for more info call Joyce Thormahlen at (please leave a message) We still have plenty of open dates for Altar flowers, reserve your special date!

6 FROM THE SLC COUNCIL Salem Lutheran Church Council Meeting January 10, 2017 Devotional-Skipped due to late start Prayer and Concerns Eddie Buehring and Buddy Winder Approval of Agenda Pastor Dan 1 st Kristel 2nd Approval of Minutes from previous meeting Kristel 1 st Rob 2nd Reports: Treasurer-We ended the year in the negative by approximately $1600. We decided to carry the loss into Pastor Nothing to report Proclaim None Nurture None Response - None Property 1) We are waiting on the engineer to stamp the drawings for the new sign. 2) The new playground will be ordered this week. 3) The toilet in the fellowship hall had to be rebuilt due to a bad leak. Grace plumbing did the rebuild for $150. Pastor Dan thinks that the council should consider rebuilding some of the other toilets that may have minor leaks. Maybe we could have another church workday? Old Business 1) Nominating committee has been given the names and positions for council. We currently have Clarice and Kathy on the 2017 nominating committee and need 4 more people. 2) Need one more person for the auditing committee, council suggested asking Joel Anderson. 3) Need a couple for the senate assembly in May. 4) Council approved the budget for 2017 Motion by Mike 2 nd Lindy. contiued on next page...

7 FROM THE SLC COUNCIL... contiuation from previous page New Business 1) We reviewed the Annual Report and Agenda for the yearly church meeting Motion made by Kristel to approve both. 2 nd Pastor Dan 2) A motion was made by Pastor Dan that full time employees may enroll in a Cafeteria Health Savings Plan offered by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America insurance plans. 2 nd Lindy all council members voted in favor. Closing Prayer All The Lord s Prayer Motion to Adjourn: Mike 1 st, Lindy 2 Dates to Remember - January 14, fundraiser for Eddie Buehring at the Red Barn from 11am-4pm Pastor Dan will be going to the Tri-Synodical Theological Conference on January 22-25, 2017 Respectfully Submitted By: Lindy Howell, SLC Council Secretary The next Salem Lutheran Church Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at 5:30PM.
