1 Providence Presbyterian Church Be Loved, Belong, Become, Be You! Veteran s Day Service Providence has organized a special community oriented Veteran s Service on November 11th, to honor the men and women who have served and are serving in the Armed Forces. We will be treated to quite a story of sacrifice and commitment from Retired Brigadier General Christopher J. Petty who will share his experience serving our country. Brigadier General Christopher Petty of Parker just retired five months ago after 31 years in the Army and Colorado Army National Guard. This West Point graduate worked at the Pentagon, consulted U.S. presidents, advised NATO and helped lead the surge in Iraq. He has served all over the world. With such a dynamic speaker we are hoping to pack the house on November 11th at our Veteran s Day Service at 9:30 a.m. Please plan on joining us, and bring you family and friends. Additionally, if you can think of a veteran (perhaps a neighbor, a grandparent, a friend.) that you would like to have honored, please also invite them to come with you. Grows Here Stewardship Drive With the year beginning to draw to a close, our Ministry Teams are already beginning to make plans for the New Year. There are several exciting ideas percolating and we our leaders are particularly grateful how this year we have gone from an expected $42,000 deficit to only a $7,909 deficit as of the end of September. On September 30 th, the income and expenses were as follows: Thank you for your incredible faithfulness in supporting the financial health of this church. At the beginning of the year we had budgeted for a $44,000 deficit. However, our budget deficit as of the end of September is only $7, This is a witness to this congregation s faithfulness and God s abundant provision and with the congregation s help it looks like WE MAY NOT HAVE TO use money from our reserves!!!! The annual inspiring Consecration Sunday will be held Nov. 25 th. In mid October, a gift packet was delivered to every family in our congregation. Hopefully, you have been reading the book that was purchased for you by a very caring member of our church. And hopefully, you have bee talking at home and praying about how you might be a blessing to Providence in your financial commitment to next year s ministry budget. H.O.P.E. Grows Here is the theme of our stewardship drive and we are confident that all of us will prayerfully consider what God is calling us to contribute towards the work of the Lord at Providence. In anticipation, we ask you to do three things that will greatly enhance our ministry to each other and the community: As best you can, help us finish our year strong by getting caught up with your 2018 pledge. Be planning, praying, and considering what your contribution to Providence will be in Be planning, praying, and considering how you might contribute to the Capital Campaign beyond your contribution to our operating budget. With gratitude for your faithful commitment, In joyful anticipation of Providence strong future, Pastor David Actual Budgeted Variance Per Capita 1, , Member Congregational Giving 138, , , Total Income 143, , , Total Expense 151, , (14,869.91) Net Income (7,909.06) (44,077.03) 36,167.97

3 Providence Presbyterian Press Page 3 Missional & Spiritual Growth Worship Plans for This Month The first Sunday of November (11/4 ), we will focus on the subject of prayer (Mark 11:20-24 whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours ) and enjoy the Service of the Lord s Supper. This is the first Sunday of Daylight savings so in order to not be an hour early for church, be sure to set your clocks back the night before. The second Sunday of November (11/11) is Veteran s Day and we will be having a special community service in place of our normal worship service. All the parts of the worship service will seek to honor and give thanks to the veterans in the community. Come hear the keynote address of our very esteemed speaker; Retired Brigadier General Christopher J. Petty. The third Sunday of the month (11/18) is a very special because it is our annual Consecration Sunday. This is the day that all of us bring our pledge cards to church and turn them in during our inspiring worship service. The fourth Sunday of the month (11/25) is the last Sunday on the liturgical calendar and is called Christ the King Sunday. We will focus on King David s earnest desire to build the temple in Jerusalem. A Church for Us or a Dwelling Place for the Lord is the sermon title. Together we will explore what it means for us to proceed towards having our own church building. Tuesday Morning Bible Study Do you have questions about the Bible? Seeking a new perspective? Hoping to meet a friend? Want to get to know others within our community? Looking for a place to fellowship and gain biblical insights? Trying to make sense of your life? need someone to pray with? We are too!! Come join the awesomeness of our Tuesday morning bible study 9:30-11:00 am. This friendly, non-judgmental, and inquisitive group who loves exploring Scripture verse by verse. You ll be glad you came. Youth 505 Our next Youth 505 will be on November 4th at 5:05pm at Providence Presbyterian Church. Contact Cassie Bennett, Interim Missional and Spiritual Growth Coordinator, for more information at ppcmsg@providencepcusa.org.

Guests are provided a place to sleep for the night, three hearty meals, and social connections in a safe and welcoming environment. Potential guests are referred to the WSN by local service agencies. The shelter is open from November 1 until March 31. Providence Presbyterian members have been participating in the program on Wednesday nights since it started in November 2016 through our connections with Parker United Methodist Church. 5 Providence Presbyterian Press Page 5 MUSIC BRINGS THE INSIDE OUTSIDE This past summer I visited the delightful Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad, California. While there, I enjoyed watching people having fun, listening, humming along, singing, embracing their creativity, freely and with joy. Families, couples, a group of college friends, individuals, children and teenagers were all excited to connect to perhaps an old tune, a beloved artist, play their own song or try a different instrument. But, truly, embracing the moment. As we were nearing the end there was a gift shop with a variety of T-shirts. Each had a unique musical thought about music. One stood out, music brings the inside outside. And so, I bought it. Since that day, I have been trying to understand why those words resonated with me. I soon realized that music has always been present and part of the most personal moments of my life, from a very young age, helping to bring my inside, out. The plaintive sound of the bag-pipe played at my father s memorial service, honoring his heritage, but helping us grieve. The intimacy created by the beautiful sounds of the Native American flute, performed at the small gathering of friends and family, at my marriage to Paul. In Turkey, a lone singer s voice coming from the minaret, calling people to prayer but reminding me to be in God s presence, so far from home. Most recently, my granddaughter s choir, where the sound of young children s voices in a moment of complete beauty, honesty and pureness, provided hope for all our futures. And, finally and professionally, the performances I have had the honor to conduct over the years, where singers, and conductor alike, were unable to move at the end because of the inner joy, inner grief, inner hope, inner anger, inner turmoil, inner celebration, inner worship, that had been released to the outside. Music safely allows us to share with the universe our thoughts, feelings, and inner personal knowings. It never will question or ask why. It will simply allow us to be free, whole and more able to be at peace. Peggy Lundberg Land & Building Team Update We continue to meet and follow through with the directive of the congregation from our meeting in July to pursue the purchase of the property at Hess and Jordan. After listening to the concerns of the congregation, we have asked our realtors to work with the sellers in gaining a release from the homeowner s association restriction on the property before we purchase it for our future church. We are prayerfully asking For God s guidance as we move forward, and we ask for your continued prayers. RUTH CIRCLE Ruth Circle will meet on November 14th at 1:30 p.m. at Eilene Long s house (23719 E. Phillips Place, Aurora, CO 80016, ). We will study Lesson 3 of our study guide God With Us In Our Discouragement. All are welcome. Come join us!
