As you all know, our Thanksgiving Holiday Feast on November 20 will be held right after church. Tom & Susan Pardaen are providing the Turkey, Ham, Dressing & Green Beans. The rest of us need to bring side dishes as well as desserts. We would like for you to double or triple your recipes because Janice Kriegel has a special plan for this feast. She is having post cards printed to be mailed to at least 500 addresses around our church inviting our neighbors to our Sunday service as well as to the Thanksgiving Feast meal we will have following our worship service. There will be a RSVP to the church phone number so maybe we will have a good idea of how many guests we will have. Please introduce yourself and welcome our guests to our church home. Make sure you remind them to sign the Attendance Register in the Pews or in the guest book on the front table so we will be able to follow up with them later. How much fun is this going to be in sharing our church home with our neighbors. How many of you out there have heard of our No-Sew Blanket Ladies. They now number 11 and have completed a total of 38 blankets. 17 blankets have been delivered and/or mailed to Lakewood CC Members (shut-ins, those who are ill or just TLC/warm hugs), 11 no sew blankets have been delivered to our Meals and Wheels clients, 5 blankets have been completed to be taken to the Family Abuse Center at Christmas and we have 6 blankets in reserve for needs in the future. These blankets have been prepared and delivered by loving hands and they have brought so much joy and shown so much love to all who have received them. A great big THANK YOU to this wonderful group of ladies and I understand they are planning to continue this program next year. We will give more details on how you can participate in a future DID YOU KNOW column. Linda Ferguson

4 Minister s Insights and Inspiration This past Sunday, November 6, our congregation unanimously approved our 2017 General Program Budget of $303,974. This is a significant achievement. Thanks to everyone for making our stewardship effort successful. Our Program Budget includes a ministerial package that includes salary, health care insurance and Pension Fund payments for a full time Senior Minister. Part of the salary is usually, at the request of the minister, designated as a housing allowance because monies used for this purpose by ministers are non-taxable income. The church does not, as such, provide housing for its minister. Anticipated income from Estimates, Non-Estimate giving, and other sources is $278,670. We are looking at options for securing the additional $25,304 needed. We will observe All Saints Sunday this coming Sunday, November 13, remembering and honoring the lives of loved ones who are at home with God. Following our worship service our youth and children will be baking pumpkin bread in our church kitchen to share with our shut-ins and others. For information please contact Jennifer Scott at jscott@mcgregor-isd.org Thanksgiving Sunday is November 20 with a luncheon to follow. The four Sundays of Advent begin on Sunday, November 27. Our choir will present the Cantata Song of Emmanuel by Lloyd Larson Sunday morning, December 11. We will have a Christmas Eve service Saturday evening, December 24 at 5:00 pm and will worship on Christmas Sunday, December 25. Lots of families go home or come home for Christmas. Let s make this a season where the Lakewood family comes home to church for Christmas! We will receive our special Thanksgiving Offering on Sunday, November 20. Our goal is $200. This offering provides direct support to Disciples colleges, universities and theological institutions. It provides a direct connection to 14 colleges or universities, 3 seminaries and 4 seminary foundations/ divinity houses. TCU, Jarvis Christian College and Brite Divinity are supported by this offering. Phil and I are in the process of putting together a Nominating Team of from five to seven persons for the selection of church officers for 2017 to be presented to the congregation. This Team will be composed of the Moderator, a representative from the Elders, a representative from the Deacons and members at large from the congregation. They will be presenting nominations for Moderator-Elect, Secretary, Financial Secretary, Treasurer, Elders, Deacons, one Trustee and Program Group Coordinators to the congregation for approval. Many who are currently serving in these positions are eligible for re-election. If you are asked to serve, please accept the position you are asked to fill as we move forward in our ministry. Thank you for the privilege of serving God with you. Richard
