Grandfather is Johnny Williams. Proud great grandparents are Jack and Nell Harbour. Sympathy Love and prayer are shared with Ralph and Jack Post along with Adonna Post Cook in the loss of Bess Post, a charter member of our church family. There was a Memorial service on June 2 at Providence Park Chapel. 2 DID YOU KNOW? What a wonderful Memorial Day Service we had. Chris Garey did a great job at putting this special service together and what a great sermon Richard did. We are so lucky to have so many wonderful people in our church family. HOORAY! The organ is fixed. Cristina played it Sunday and with the new speakers and some repair to the organ itself it sounded wonderful. A big thanks again to Hollis & Ethel Biddle for making this possible. I am waiting for estimates on replacing the lights in the Sanctuary. I hope to have these by next week and if financially possible, we will move forward with this project. Why Go To Church? - Contributed by Gene Hall If you re spiritually alive, you re going to love this! If you re spiritually dead, you won t want to read it. If you re spiritually curious, there is still hope. A churchgoer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper & complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. I ve gone for 30 years now, he wrote, and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons, but for the life of me, I can t remember a single one of them. So, I think I m wasting my time, and the preachers & priests are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all? This started a real controversy in the Letters to the Editor column. It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher: I ve been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this: They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today! When you are DOWN to nothing, God is UP to something! Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible, and receives the impossible! Thank God for our physical & our spiritual nourishment. IF YOU CANNOT SEE GOD IN ALL, YOU CANNOT SEE GOD AT ALL!

They are also housing the Little Miracles Childcare program. The newly renovated facilities will be consecrated on Sunday, June 12 at 2:00 pm. The church is located at 2 Dean Drive in Aledo. Our Mission Group made the decision to invest in this enterprise. Evacuation Site Our Steering Board has approved our Lakewood facilities being used as an evacuation site for the Ridgecrest Retirement Center. In the event of an emergency at the Center, their residents would be housed in our facilities until they could be relocated. We would have no other responsibilities, only short term housing.

5 Minister s Insights and Inspiration On Tuesday night, April 26, I had the privilege of meeting with and presenting the program for about twenty ladies of our Priscilla Women s Group. For the program I asked them to share with me the answers to three questions about Lakewood in order for me to better understand our ministry together. At the close of the meeting, someone suggested I share this conversation with others in the congregation and I agreed to do so. Here are the questions and the answers given by the women of the Priscilla Group. Question: What are the things you feel good about? Answers: We are family; friendly; have a good choir; ladies active in LCC; love in the church; we are survivors; our Treasurer, Linda Ferguson, and our improving finances; community outreach; we take care of our own, support; CDC; Gene Hall greeting at the door; worship; Chris Garey and his work with our property; we have people with varying gifts who use them for the church; and our leadership. Question: What are the things you are most concerned about? What do we need to do better? Answers: Lack of young people, young families and children; visiting our shut-ins; having an interim minister when we need a full-time minister; people withholding their tithes until we have a new minister; lack of programs and special groups to attract people; need to help people with special needs and older persons; need a yard, handy-man program to help people in the congregation; more volunteer mission work and lack of LCC news in the Waco Tribune-Herald. Question: What do the people in Waco who do not attend or belong to Lakewood think about our church? What is the image of LCC in the community? Answers: They don t think about Lakewood, they don t know we are here; one of those churches on Bosque Blvd.; the big Easter Egg Hunt church; people who attend don t believe anything; white church with little diversity in the congregation; church with all the trees; confused about entrances, where to park and signs to the sanctuary. How would you answer each of these questions? Where do we need to go and how do we get there? How willing are you to be part of the answer and a worker to move our ministry forward? Think it over!
