1 Reaching Individuals and Families of the Concho Valley with the Transforming Love of Jesus Christ! A G N U S D E I October 2012 Meets the 1st Monday (2nd Monday on holidays) At 6:00 pm in the Parish Hall P.O. Box San Angelo, Texas (325) NEW TIME Meets the 2nd and 4th Monday At 1:00 to 3:00pm In the Library Reaching Individuals and Families of the Concho Valley with the Transforming Love of Jesus Christ! Copyright: No portion of this publication may be copied or stored electronically without prior written permission of the Anglican Church of the Good Shepherd. I the LORD do not change. So you, O descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed. Malachi 3: W. Beauregard San Angelo, Texas (325) Send articles, announcements and feed back to secretary.acgs@suddenlinkmail.com Brothers and sisters in Christ, As you read this newsletter Eileen and I are on holiday in the mountains of Western Pennsylvania. Around us is the spectacular display that comes every Fall. The lesser maples leaves change to red and gold, the Oak to crimson and brown, the Sugar Maples to bright orange, the Sumac to fire engine red, and the pines, hemlocks (the PA State tree) and spruce stand out against the multicolored backdrop in bright shades of green and blue. It is a sight to behold. Those glorious changes speak of another change soon to follow, falling leaves, bare branches and limbs outlined in freshly fallen snow. Change in the Appalachian Mountains is spectacular! Change comes to us all. Whether physical, emotional, intellectual or relational, change comes. Some are seasonal, some are anticipated or feared, some are unexpected or desired. Change is inevitable. As our Appeal is heard before the Texas Supreme Court on October 16, we know that change will follow. We will no longer simply occupy the church campus, but take possession of the property; or, we will put our contingency plan into motion and be moving to new quarters. One thing is certain; the Lord God Almighty does not change, and because of His faithfulness, no change will destroy us. Whatever change comes, the Lord has us and our circumstances under His control. Even at the end of our earthly lives, when the ultimate and final change seems to overtake us, we have His assurance that even though we are dead yet, shall we live, because He is the God of the Living! We are enjoying the cooler days and nights that October brings to West Texas. The aroma of wood burning in fire places, and the sounds of the pools and fountains have grown still. We pray for the fall and winter rains to come as we enter a deeper level of the drought. In it all may we be more aware of the redeeming and saving hand of our Heavenly Father, knowing that whatever happens, He changes not and will see us through. We are securely His own forever, Father Stan

2 Gospel Benefit Concert Summary Sunday Evening, September 16th, proved to be a wonderful evening of music, sharing, fellowship and generous expressions of caring. Many people participated donating time, talents, musical performances, audio equipment, monitoring and video equipment and presentation, refreshment, Porta -Potties and endless laughter, applause and even a few original songs composed for the occasion. Promises of prayer for the Angelo Global Health Initiative and it s Rose Chisowa Clinic in Malawi were made, and there was a generous outpouring of financial support to date in the amount of $8, Praise God from whom all blessings flow. is a parish of The Anglican Church in North America. 3 The Christmas Feast Would you like to be in on the planning of this year s Christmas Feast. A church member has given us $500 seed money. What we need now is the inspiration to step up and discern what we would like to do. If you are interested in helping with the Christmas Feast, please me, and we will set a meeting Brothers & Sisters in Christ, Deacon June s Letter October continues a very busy time of year for us. We re moving to the holiday season full of secular and religious holidays: homecomings, national holidays, and moving toward Advent and Christmas. In this time, we need to remember to slow down and consider our Gospel readings this month. We are studying Mark 10, and, like all of the Gospel of Mark, it is condensed and packed material which needs reflection time. We will learn that the law of Moses did not really complete the Law of God as Jesus corrects citizen and church leaders alike on how we have distorted what God has intended for us. Our first lesson is on the misuse of our marital relationships Our hidden greed and covetousness The true cost of discipleship is our lives and all we have The errors we make because of pride and ego The blessing of those who really want to see (in all senses of the word) the Lord Jesus So, may we, in this time of great distraction and busyness, S L O W D O W N focus on our families and all the relationships God has given us renounce the greed and covetousness (and gluttony) this season offers pledge our lives, our souls and bodies to the Lord Jesus Christ renounce our pride what do we have to be proud of? and our egos who are we for God to love us so? And, seek with all our hearts our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Blessings, Deacon June Notes The Vestry met Sept. 17 at 6:00 p.m. All vestry members were present except Nan Barber. The meeting opened with evening prayer. The financial secretary presented her August report and it was approved. David Harrison thanked everyone on the success of the concert. Rodney Brown reported that the nursery carpet had been replaced, the plumbing has been repaired, light bulbs replaced, etc. Teddye Read reported that business cards have been ordered and she is still working on the brochure for the church. Billie Hodges said the concert went very well and was a success. Jean Yarbrough advised that Sharon will host the Sept. 30 lunch in the parish hall after the 10:30 service. Paul Millican reported that he is working on the stewardship dinner. Rusty Lieber reported the meeting time for the next Church Health Team. It was announced that the lawsuit hearing is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. in Austin on October 16. Fr. Stan stated that he would like to change the name of the Outreach Committee to the Mission Partner's Committee because he feels it is a more descriptive title. He also announced that thus far the Gospel Concert has raised in excess of $ and that some money is still coming in. The vestry discussed how to disperse the funds to Dr. Dube's organization and Fr. Stan will meet with Dr. Dube and his accountant soon. The vestry discussed the need for a new contract with the cleaning service since a copy of the contract cannot be located in the files. Concerns about the altar flowers have been voiced over the past few weeks. The vestry authorized the altar guild to make any necessary changes in the provider or costs. The October meeting was changed from October 15 to October 22 in order to allow travel time to Austin for the lawsuit hearing. Meeting adjourned 7:35 p.m with prayer. Respectfully, Billie Hodges A full copy of the vestry minutes is on the bulletin board in the Narthex.
