Beauregard San Angelo, Texas (325) Send articles, announcements and feedback to I am honored and humbled to be selected as your new rector. For me, the highest calling for a priest or minister is to have the spiritual responsibility for a local group of believers. My first calling from God was to preach the Gospel (Rom 10:14-15). I surrendered to preach on my 19 th birthday in my home church, First Baptist Church, Kyle Texas. I served in small congregations until I finished much of my formal education about nine years later. The second phase of my calling was to serve as a chaplain in the military. I had the vision of moms and dads back home praying that when their adult children were in crisis they would be ministered to by a Godly chaplain who would encourage them with words of life from the Word and the Spirit. I was keenly aware that one day I would be accountable to God for the moments He gave me to spend with His children, moments which could impact their eternity and quality of spiritual life. Working with Sailors, Marines, and their families taught me how to minister in a context of trauma and transition in a culture where faithful Christians were the minority. There is no substitute for a plain and clear message of the wonderful salvation available only through the sacrifice and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The next phase of my ministry overlapped with the second: the call to become a priest in his one, holy, Apostolic Church. While attending St. Michael s Charismatic Episcopal Church near historic Newport RI, the conviction of the reality of the presence of God and his wonderful grace expressed through the His sacraments became evident to me and Debbie. Witnessing the powerful movement of the Holy Spirit through prophetic words and healings led us into a realm of ministry from which we could not retreat. As a result, I was called to the priesthood and have never looked back. (continued)

2 Those praying over me at the time had a word from God to speak into my life that my most significant ministry was to come after the military and that I would be called to the town where we had recently bought a home from my mom and George. These words of knowledge were spoken to us over ten years ago. I believe that living, working, and praying with you at Good Shepherd is the fulfillment of God s desire he placed in my heart. God s plan is working through our church right now. We are going to continue the path based upon the foundations He has given us with some adjustments. Firstly, I am recommending that we adjust our vision statement from Here For All. One For Christ to One in Christ. One in Love. Becoming one with Christ is the goal of the faith (Eph 2:22; Col 1:28-29; Col 2:6-15; Col 3:1-4). Christian love is the highest of all virtues. When we become one with Christ, we will naturally love both God and those around us (Matt 22:37-39). Please pray for me as I pray for you in our spiritual journey. To God be the Glory! Fr. Hal Thank you to everyone who contributed to our 4th Sunday of the Month Food Drive to support two orphanages and Casa Bethesda in Mexico. Quarterly Glenn Polhemus takes the collected food to Eagle Pass to the home of Sister Ursula Herrera and then she delivers the food to the orphanages and Casa Bethesda in small daily shipments. Glenn invites anyone to go with him when he takes the food quarterly.

4 Ministry Partner: Pregnancy Help Center Update Good Shepherd has been a faithful partner since it was a prayer request some 30 years ago. God heard and answered those prayers with this non-judgmental safe haven for women who find themselves in an unexpected pregnancy. Mission Statement 2018 Activity - based on first five months, PHC is projected to: Serve ~4,800 clients As servants of the Lord, the Provide ~1,100 pregnancy tests Pregnancy Help Center of Provide ~500 initial sonograms Concho Valley is committed Provide ~350 hours of training for to helping women and men in crisis because of 100+ parents unexpected pregnancy, Provide maternity and baby clothes those engaged in risky Plant numerous spiritual seeds sexual behavior, and those who have been harmed by abortion. STD Clinic: The San Angelo Health Foundation awarded the Pregnancy Help Center a $200,000 grant to renovate the warehouse space behind the Center for a free STD clinic. We are blessed to have our entire facility paid off which includes the space for the STD Clinic, but the warehouse is an empty shell. We want to provide a clean, inviting, and safe place for clients to be tested and treated for STDs. Having a clinic connected to the Center opens the door to redirect clients so they can make good choices regarding their sexual health. Thanks to our generous supporters, we can share the love of Christ and the gospel with our clients. It has been a long time goal to expand our services, and STD testing is the next logical step. Most of our services are directed toward women, but STD testing will broaden our scope to men. We are in the process of acquiring an additional $275,000 in grants and have faith God will provide. Prayers are appreciated as we take the next steps to further the reach of the Pregnancy Help Center. 5 The house is quiet now. No toys are scattered, and the play room becomes a foyer once again. Baby dolls are asleep, Legos back in the box, and the movie, The Lion King is put away. The pink wading pool stands empty on the porch. Beds are changed, baby quilts in storage, and the pack -n-play dismantled. The grandchildren left today. How does one understand the mind of a 3 year old? Alice is a sprite in perpetual motion, constantly talking, absorbing her environment, bursting with curiosity; one minute sweet and cuddly and the next, obstinate and defiant. She raced through Kids Kingdom in her fairy princess dress and sandals, chasing new friends she will never see again, the epitome of trust and free will. How does on describe the feelings a grandparent has toward a newborn? I pondered this as I held infant Jack. His silky skin against my arm, his soft breath on my cheek, the innocence of this tiny one so vulnerable and dependent raised a flood of emotions. I remember holding his father in the same way. As a first time mother I was petrified I d make a mistake. Surely I did, but nothing unforgivable, and he thrived to become the fine man he is today. Sunrise, Sunset. Yes, fiddler on the roof, quickly go the days. Vanity, it is all vanity. Solomon in all his wisdom decried the futility of life not centered on God. We who were once children are now the older generation. Our own mortality looms closer on the horizon as we accept this fact and focus on the quality of life instead of the quantity. We need You more than ever, Lord Jesus. Do we throw on the brakes, churning in bittersweet regrets? Or do we embrace the inevitable and age in Your grace? This is my prayer: Abba Father who made me in Your image, thank you for a full life. I can barely comprehend the magnitude of Your many blessings throughout my years. You so loved me You sent Your one and only Son to conquer sin and death once for all peoples, all generations, for all eternity. Thank You for my children and grandchildren, for they were Yours before You gave them to me. I dedicate the fruit of my harvest to You, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Bless them in Christ to love and serve You. Come, Holy Spirit. Call them into Your light. Receive my praise and thanksgiving as I rejoice in You Lord, my only joy, salvation, and hope. Forgive my sins against You and others. Keep me holy for Your are holy. Until my final breath let every thought, word and deed bring honor and glory to You. In Jesus name, amen. Submissions should be sent to Jenny at the church office, or drop it off at the church office Monday-Friday, 9-11:30AM or Noon-2:00PM. Thank you. Intercessory Prayer Do you believe in the power of prayer? Does prayer really change things? Does God intervene in our lives today? Every Wednesday morning at 10:00 AM we meet in the chapel of Good Shepherd to bow before the LORD in adoration, thanksgiving and intercession. We come together and lift our concerns and petitions to the King of kings, and LORD of lords. We know that God is always with us, but when we do what He says, and gather in His Name, we are keenly aware that He truly is in midst of us and we are overwhelmed by His Holy Presence. Sometimes we come in need of prayer ourselves, sometimes we come with heavy hearts and long lists of petitions, sometimes we pray out loud, and sometimes we are silent and open our hearts to receive. ALL THE TIME, God hears and answers. We would love to have your join us on a regular basis, or just stop in when you are able. We will pray for you and your needs, and you can pray for us. The answer to above questions is yes, yes, and yes! Thanks be to God, Who gives us the victory through our LORD Jesus Christ, Alleluia, Alleluia!!! Come and see!

7 Meet Sunday, August 6th at 6:00pm in the Conference Room. THE VESTRY MEETING The regular monthly Vestry meeting is Monday, August 27, at 6:00 PM in the conference room. Our next collection date is Sunday, August 26th for our Fourth Sunday of the Month Food Drive to support two orphanages and Casa Bethesda in Mexico. Canned or boxed food is needed desperately. is scheduled for Saturday, August 11th at 9am. Please join us if you are interested in helping with general clean up and fix up projects around the church, inside and out. Recycle! Reuse! We collect plastic bags to donate to Project Dignidad. These are used to make sleeping mats for individuals in need, to weather the elements... all by using plastic yarn (plarn) made from plastic bags.
