Amanda As we enter this season of Thanksgiving, we listen to excerpts from Martin Luther s explanation of the first stanza of the Apostle s creed from his Large Catechism (1529). Luther reminds us how not only our creation, but also the preservation of our life is due to God s gracious love for us in every minute. This is indeed worthy of our highest thanks! The entire explanation is posted on my blog at OLLC.org. I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. But now for young scholars let it suffice to indicate the most necessary points, namely, as we have said, that this article refers to the Creation: that we emphasize the words: Creator of heaven and earth. But what is the force of this, or what do you mean by these words: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker, etc.? Answer: This is what I mean and believe, that I am a creature of God; that is, that He has given and constantly preserves to me my body, soul, and life, members great and small, all my senses, reason, and understanding, and so on, food and drink, clothing and support, wife and children, domestics, house and home, etc. Besides, He causes all creatures to serve for the uses and necessities of life sun, moon, and stars in the firmament, day and night, air, fire, water, earth, and whatever it bears and produces, birds and fishes beasts, grain, and all kinds of produce, and whatever else there is of bodily and temporal goods, good government, peace, security. Thus we learn from this article that none of us has of himself, nor can preserve, his life nor anything that is here enumerated or can be enumerated, however small and unimportant a thing it might be, for all is comprehended in the word Creator. Moreover, we also confess that God the Father has not only given us all that we have and see before our eyes, but daily preserves and defends us against all evil and misfortune, averts all sorts of danger and calamity; and that He does all this out of pure love and goodness, without our merit, as a benevolent Father, who cares for us that no evil befall us. But to speak more of this belongs in the other two parts of this article, where we say: Father Almighty. Now, since all that we possess, and, moreover, whatever, in addition, is in heaven and upon the earth, is daily given, preserved, and kept for us by God, it is readily inferred and concluded that it is our duty to love, praise, and thank Him for it without ceasing, and, in short, to serve Him with all these things --Rev. 2 A big thank you to all who came to the Fall Festival. Habitat for Humanity also thanks you for your generosity. There are many to thank for helping with the Festival. There is set-up and clean-up plus cooks and servers. In all it took 19 different members to make it all happen on the day of the Festival. 3 BritVil community Food Pantry 9am in the Conference Room Adults: Intetupted by Hope: turning toward grace We will gather each Sunday morning at 9am, starting on November 6th, to look at different ways to embody the resurrection by living with defiant hope. Children s Sunday School: Join us to learn bible stories and prepare to share the story of Jesus birth with the congregation on December 18th. Children s Christmas Pageant during worship December 18th! We ll see you there! FOOD DRIVE -- We will be collecting non-perishable food items on November 6 and 13, for the BritVil Food Pantry. Pick up an empty grocery bag in the narthex beginning Sunday, October 30th and return it filled by November 13th. --Thanks! Social Ministry Committee BritVil Food Pantry Mission Statement: Provide food to the hungry regardless of race, color, religion or creed. Our primary purpose is to share the love of our Savior and Lord by treating with love and respect those who enter this pantry, giving each person the dignity they deserve. Regional Food Bank, 3355 S. Purdue, OKC. Join other members from OLLC to fill boxes or kids backpacks on Saturday, November 5th, from 9:30am-noon at the Regional Food Bank. It s a feel good job to volunteer. OLLC ENDOWMENT FUND The endowment fund currently has $6000 available for distribution. Welcome to God s World! Liam Aurellius Humphrey, son of Anthony Humphrey and Avrey Parr, was born Tuesday, October 25th at 6:32pm, weighing 7lbs 13oz. Mother and baby are doing well! 4 Hands of Mercy Quilters will meet on November 12th, in the conference room. The normally scheduled Thursday quilting day will take place on November 17th, from 9am to noon as the fourth Thursday is Thanksgiving. LWR PERSONAL CARE KIT Items may be placed in the green box in the narthex. We will begin collecting items again after Christmas. A full list of items needed is provided at the Information Center. Dear Friends, Council Notes I would like to share two very important budgetary items with you: First of all, the OLLC Giving Analysis shows that for the months of July, August, and September 2016, the total giving was $39,088. This total is the lowest since 2010/2011 for the same period, with the exception of the 2013/2014 total of $38,515. Secondly, the total giving for September 2016 was $10,328. This total represents only 60% of the $17,083 budgeted for September. If this trend continues, it will be very difficult to meet our monthly expenses.
