Brother Knights, We completed a first run through of officer nominees during our April general council meeting, and have included a current list of officer nominees for our July 2018 to June 2019 fiscal year in this month s newsletter. We re still taking officer nominations during the next two general council meetings before elections are held in our June general council meeting. So if you re interested and have the time in this period of your life, please contact me or a current officer or trustee. In addition, we have listed the director positions with some details of the position. Remember while you must be a 3rd degree Knight to hold an officer s position, director positions are open to all Knights in good standing with the council and are appointed by the Grand Knight. Bruce Cadwell is retiring from being St. Vincent s facility manager. As a fellow St. Vincent parishioner and brother Knight, I would like to thank Bruce for all the things he has done for us. The time and effort he has given our Parish can only be truly rewarded in heaven. To honor Bruce, Father Dan and the Parish will be having a Parish breakfast on Sunday, May 20th, which will give everyone a chance to thank Bruce and wish him well in his future endeavors. Of course Bruce will still be a very active Knight! The entire breakfast proceeds will go to the charity of Bruce s choice which is our St.Vincent de Paul School. So please be sure to schedule some volunteer time to cook and serve our Parish and our Brother Knight Bruce on Sunday, May 20th. Let s turn out in force to show Bruce how much we have appreciated him. I would like to thank all those Brother Knights that attended the Rosary and Funeral Mass for Steve Lynbrook. What a great turn-out of 30 plus Knights to say good bye to our fellow brother Knight Steve. My heart was warmed, and Christine (Steve s wife) was very grateful. Steve honored us for so many years in our service and charity works for the better of our Parish and Church. As you can see by the picture below, we loved Steve and will miss him. 2 What's Happening in Council * Admissions 1st Degree Exemplification - The date of the next degree is TBD in Spiritual Center A Sign in at 7 pm, with degree at 7:30pm. * K of C Blood Drive Next drive is set for Sat. May 5th. It s from 7:30-11am in the Parish Hall. contact Ed Koehl /Jeff Schafer for appointment. * K of C Family Breakfast next breakfast is May 20th for Bruce...Held in the Parish Hall. Come & enjoy a great meal with your family. 8-11am. * Rosary For the Unborn before 8 am Mass in Church, 7:40am First Saturday of Every Month. * Future Events- We are going to have many events and projects coming up in the future. If possible, please help, if available, when you are called! One of the most important of those opportunities is to meet and exceed our membership goals and objectives. We are asking each of our members to talk to prospective members and directly ask them to join our Council. Each of us has the responsibility to talk to Catholic men who are 18 years of age or older and help them become members of the St. Vincent's Knights of Columbus. Don't wait! "All our 4th degree members should have received their invitation to the Religious Appreciation banquet to be held on June 19, 2018 at Parkview Mirro Center. This annual dinner is held to honor our Bishop, our priests, deacons and religious for their service to us. The deadline for returning your reservations is May 25, 2018, no reservations will be accepted after May 25. We look forward to seeing you there. Any 4th degree member who might be interested in running for a position in our Assembly, please come to our meeting on Tuesday May 8, 2018 at the Mother Theodore Guerin Chapel. The election of new officers will take place at this meeting, all are welcome." Faith Director: Oversees the R.S.V.P. Program which is the program in direct support of our seminarians. Helps with Building the Domestic Church programs and may set up Corporate Communions for members. Oversees all programs involving a direct relationship with various parish activities. Works with the G. K. in raising funds of the parish seminarians and well as for the Bishop s annual appeal for the Franciscan Brothers Minor. Community Director: Oversees the council s outreach programs such as working with A Mother s Hope and other activities as approved by the council. This may include our annual Tootsie Roll Drive. Council Director: Oversees and promotes various social events for the members and their families such as the annual Tin Caps baseball game. Should also assist with developing a relationship with the local Special Olympic organization. The council director also helps identify a Knight of the Month and Knight of the Year. Culture of Life: Assists in the promotion of various pro-life activities within the parish and community including the annual March for Life. Helps promote our annual breakfast in support of life. Family: Identifies Family of the Month, coordinates a family mass or communion breakfast for members and their families. Assists with the adoption of families for Christmas in conjunction with the parish s St. Vincent de Paul Society. Youth: Sets up our annual Free Throw competition. Serves as a liaison to our involvement with the scouting program at St. Vincent. Helps with any other activities involving our youth in the parish.. =========================================================================================================================== These Short Stories are all very good stories... and make us think twice about the daily happenings in our lives as we deal with others!! 1. Today, I interviewed my grandmother for part of a research paper I'm working on for my Psychology class. When I asked her to define success in her own words, she said; "Success is when you look back at your life and the memories make you smile." 2. Today, I asked my mentor - a very successful business man in his 70s what his top 3 tips are for success. He smiled and said Read something no one else is reading, think something no one else is thinking, and do something no one else is doing." 3. Today, after my 72-hour shift at the fire station, a woman ran up to me at the grocery store and gave me a hug When I tensed up, she realized I didn't recognize her. She let go with tears of joy in her eyes and the most sincere smile and said; "On , you carried me out of the World Trade Center." Volume 20, Issue 5 Page 3

Is it a belief in what the Knights of Columbus represents every day of every year? Is it the numerous ways that Knights help others? Is it the shared commitment to provide relief to devastated areas? Is it the many local people that the KofC have assisted? Is it the activities that Knights share? This list can go, on and on... There are several ways you can help our Council and the Knights of Columbus as a whole make a big impact! 1. Help our Council reach our membership/recruitment goals.. 2. A HUGE FOCUS IS ON RECRUITING NEW MEMBERS NOW! 3. Help us recruit young and older men to our Council between now and June Ask every man you encounter at church that is 18 or older to join our Council! 5. Get other members to become more active in the Knights ASK when you attend events, ASK before and after church, ASK by making a few phone calls. 5 Slate of Officers Brother Knights, the following is the slate of officers as presented at our April meeting. Nominations will continue to be accepted at the May and June meeting with the actual election of officers taking place at the June meeting. All 3rd degree members are eligible to run for any of the elected positions. In addition, we wish to fill the various director positions which are appointed by the Grand Knight. Any member, regardless of degree, may serve in one of the director s positions. This is a great opportunity for our new members to get involved in the Council. K. and D.G.K. with their duties as assigned, is entrusted with strengthening the members interest in council activities, is recommended to serve as chairman of the Admissions Committee, performs other duties as the G. K. may direct. Directors Directors are appointed annually by the Grand Knight. These positions are open to all interested Knights. You need not be a 3rd degree member to become a director. Program Director: Works with the G.K. and council leaders in setting the calendar of council programs for the year. He also assists in overseeing each service program director. They include the following: Church Director, Community Director, Council Director, Culture of Life Director, Family Director, and Youth Director. He is responsible for keeping accurate records of council programs for the ANNUAL SURVEY OF FRATERNAL ACTIVITY and the Columbian Award Application. He should also keep the public relations chairman informed of all programs for promotion to the parish and local media. Activities Directors: Directors of each service program (Faith, Community, Culture of Life, Family/Youth) are appointed annually by the G.K. on the recommendations of the Program Director. The Youth Director must pass a background check and adhere to all policies and procedures under the Knights of Columbus Safe Environment Program. Membership Director: Appointed annually by the G.K. Responsible for recommending and overseeing the Admission Committee and Retention Committee. Plans and coordinates the council s schedule of recruitment programs. If interested in any of the directors positions, contact G.K. Mark Sorich or Trustee Dennis Fech. An explanation sheet of the responsibilities of the various activity directors will be available at our May meeting. = ======================================================================================================================= It s TinCaps Baseball Time! It is CERTAINLY time for some summer fun! Once again, your St. Vincent's Knights of Columbus Council has purchased 100 tickets for Thursday, June 21st, Due to the number of tickets we purchase, the usual $8.00 tickets will only cost you $7.00!!! The West Michigan Whitecaps are coming to town for a 7:05 pm game time. We will enjoy the usual amenities such as: SUN TO YOUR BACKS, and as always it is THIRSTY THURSDAY and FIREWORKS night.
