Box 225 Suamico, WI (920) stpaulsuamicowi.com My Dear Family in Christ, The story is told of an old man who lived in a dilapidated house that was no longer fit to live in. The roof leaked, the plumbing was rusted and the foundation was rotted. Finally the plight of the old man was brought to the attention of authorities who then stepped in to help this individual. They built him a brand new house with all the modern conveniences. The house, while small, was more than sufficient for the needs of the man. The day finally arrived when the house was finished and the old man could move in. To the surprise of those involved, the man refused to move. The fear of change prevented him from moving, even though the move would have been for his benefit. In some ways the small church is often like the old man. The fear of change is greater than the actual change that they are facing. Change for the small church is often difficult and feared because it involves a break with the past and the uncertainty of the future. We are sad that Father Jim has retired and not sure who will take his place. God blessed the people of St. Paul s when he chose Father Jim and Nancy to be here. They shared in the joys, the sorrows and the challenges of many of our lives. Most of us would have liked them to remain for that had become our comfort zone. However, I believe that though they are not here physically, they will always be a part of our lives by being in our hearts. So if you are nervous or fearful in this period of transition, then it is the time to turn to God in prayer. Thank God for the time we had with Father Jim and Nancy. We can thank God for all the ways they have been a part of our lives. Petition God to soothe our minds, calm our fears and give us peace in our hearts. Then let us work together to keep St. Paul s active and strong. Yes, things will appear different and changed on the surface but the mission of our parish is the foundation of our being. Let us keep moving this parish forward in ministry as we wait for whomever God has in mind to lead us in the future. I am a woman of many interests. I have lots of hobbies and activities that fill my life. However, my most favorite thing to do is needlework. Some people call it embroidery, or cross stitch or needle point but whatever it is called, I would like to be doing it at least six days a week. About a week ago, I started a new project. It is a sampler of different stitches much like colonial girls used to do years ago. It just so happens that this particular sampler is called Faith Sampler and it has a quote from the book of Hebrews on it. It is from Hebrews, Chapter 11, verse 1 and it says, Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. It was just what I needed to read and because I will be working on this project for the next couple of months, it will always be in my mind as we transition to new leadership. To help others and support our church Women s Ministry The Women s Ministry held their 20 th Annual Salad Luncheon on Saturday, April 29 th. We had a beautiful day, 72 guests attended, 24 yummy salads and great entertainment. Thank you to everyone that made this another great luncheon! Women s Ministry Meeting-May 7 th We made about 1, on our Salad Luncheon. We will continue to ask people about teaching Sunday School for next fall. We would like to purchase pans for the Fish Bakes. Jean McNamara has come forward to head up our Coffee Hour. She will work on filling up the schedule for the weeks to come. The Women s Ministry will have no meetings this summer and will start back up in September. We will end this year with a Girl s Night Out. It will be on Tuesday, June 6 th at Box Car Billy s. Fellowship will start at 5:00 and dinner at 6:00. This is a dutch treat dinner. We will have a signup sheet out to reserve your spot. Marie Schlitz-Secretary ******************************************************************************** Sunday School The Sunday school students worked on a project for several weeks. It s the Episcopal Shield made with broken glass and grout. They presented it to the congregation on Easter Sunday. Thank you to all the children and teachers for a very special gift that will be here for a long time!

4 P a g e 4 C h u r c h y a r d N e w s EPH & Barnabas House Update We have just completed a Move Out which took 2 weeks to do. We had lots of cleaning, painting and replacing to do this time. A HUGE thank you to the following people for their time, talent and hard work: Joan Johnston, Lauren Pritzl, Gail Revord, Josh Schiltz, Melissa Schiltz, Marlene Zastrow, Rob Zastrow, Marion DeWitt, Pat Ross, Ron Schiltz and Marie Schiltz. Altogether, these people put in 98 volunteer hours in at the Barnabas House. THANK-YOU!! Please pray for our new family which was placed this week. The family consists of Mom, Dad, 4 year boy, 2 year girl and a 4 month old baby. We will make them a homemade welcome meal shortly after they are settled in. 6 St. Paul s Episcopal Church 2809 Flintville Road P.O. Box 225 Suamico, WI Vestry Meeting Summary - April 18th The tents have been measured and Craig is working on the value of all of them. As soon as he has more information on them they will be for sale. Saturday, May 13 th will be our Yard Work day. There is lots of work to do because of the renovations this past year. We need as many people to come and help. We will start at 8:00am. Pat Hagerty encourages everyone to get involved in writing articles for the Churchyard News. In future issues, we will no longer have articles from the priest or from the Parish nurse. The Vestry reviewed the Letter of Agreement with Fr. Jim. The Vestry approved to have all parties sign the agreement and it will be posted on the bulletin board for everyone to view. A reminder that Life Line Health screening is hosting their health screening at St. Paul s on Friday, June 2 nd. There are information sheets on the side table and you will need to call and make an appointment prior to that date.
