2 AERIE PRESIDENT MESSAGE Brothers, Let me take this time to thank the Aerie brothers and Auxiliary sisters for all the help at the Aerie s 94th anniversary celebration. This is why we have 94 Aerie years and 90 Auxiliary years, we support and help each other. The next charity is The City of Hope fund raiser on March 3, Eagle Appreciation Day will be held March 17, 2018 in Duarte on the City of Hope campus. It s their way of thanking the Eagles for all their support over the years. The Aerie and Auxiliary are doing great with our charity donations. Come down to your social room as the trustees have special things going on for your enjoyment. If you have any new ideas bring them to the Trustees or to the Aerie meeting. Retired Eagles Actives Club To be a club member, First, you must be an Aerie or Auxiliary member. Second, you must be over the age of 50. Are you ready for some good conversation? We met the First and Third Tuesdays, we now have a POT LUCK lunch, we then play Bingo or?? We catch up on what s going on in the Eagles and other places, like Grand, State and local. We are now accepting new members, come on down 12:00 noon 1st and 3rd Tuesdays for a good POT LUCK. Our thoughts and prayers go to the family of Harry Paul. Harry was one person a lot of Brothers and Sisters knew and looked to for guidance. He was a Past Worthy President of the Aerie. Harry was also a good and dedicated Marine. REAC wishes everyone a Happy St. Patrick s Day, the day of green, come on down for some green. The Outsider. 3 Dear Sisters and Brothers: Four Aerie Officers attended our ladies Auxiliary meeting the other day. It seemed like we were getting a visit from the Rat Pack. I know their main forte is not in singing and dancing, but they each have qualities that are very important and vital to the heart and soul and also the continuation of our South Gate Eagles. Gene Miller and Tony Villanueva have the qualities of great leaders and guide us as we face new challenges and new horizons in planning and preparing to remodel and update our bathroom facilities. They have the diplomacy and follow through that it requires to plan side by side with the South Gate City building inspectors. John De Anda s forte is in copy and advertising. He is introducing some improvements in advertising and pushing us to be better prepared in planning our events. Danny Collins, in addition to his every day duties of being Aerie Secretary and chef, spoke about the fact that the Aerie will help the Auxiliary financially with every charity this year. That alone will improve our efforts to raise our funds for our charities. We are lucky to have these officers with such abilities and focusing on what matters, improving our facility and at the same time focusing on what is most important, the charities. As always, it is vital that our Auxiliary and Aerie officers work together and we are doing an excellent job together. We also need your input and cooperation. Our next event will be the City of Hope. Please invite your friends, attend the event, or donate prizes. Any little bit you can do makes a difference. People Helping People PMP Alma Villanueva, President Our Condolences To Brother Fred Hicks on the loss of his brother Ernie Clark to a massive heart attack at the age of 73. He was a former member and Trustee of South Gate 2080 and was living In Tucson, Arizona. To Sister Rosemary Thies on the loss of her sister who was diagnosed with lung cancer in December and left this world on February 3. To sister Tammy Rall on the loss of her beloved husband Darrell who joined the Garden Grove Aerie and transferred to South Gate and served as worthy president. He was a past state president twice and a grand officer he had a tragic motorcycle accident. He then developed cancer and had been fighting it for several years even though It had spread throughout his body. In November, he got an infection and his body did not have the strength to fight it even though he tried so hard. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends. To Sister Nalene Paul on the loss of her beloved Harry. He proudly served his country as a Marine for 7 years. He was a member of the American Legion on California Ave. in South Gate for well over 30 years and served as Commander. He was a part of the riffle team performing the 21 gun salute at the Memorial Day Programs at the park. He walked many a mile in the Christmas and Azalea parades on Tweedy Blvd. Harry was a 38 year member of the South Gate Eagles and served as worthy president twice. He attended men s dinners and always bought 2 to-go plates to take home to Nalene. He was a devoted husband and friend to many brothers and sisters. About 5 months ago he wasn t feeling up to par and went in and had tests taken the results were not good. He left this world to spend eternal life in the heavens above On January 15, Page 3

5 From The Trustees Corner March 2018 Hope your Valentine s Day was Great!! We need to get more members involved not only the regulars from the social room. COME ENJOY our monthly Sunday Breakfast on March 4TH from 8:00 to 11:00. Full breakfast, with all the fix ns to start of the month off right. Get ready for March Madness. See the Table Fliers for Food. Chef Danny will be serving up a St Patrick s Day Corned Beef & Cabbage dinner. Please call the Aerie for the time. We Expect Easter to be a great time and we all should enjoy it with our families here at the Social Room on April 1st. All month, we will have drink specials on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Happy Hour 4-6. Daylight Savings time starts on Sunday Turn your clocks back one hour!! Remember, we don t smoke in the Hall or the Social Room. Any kind of Cigarettes. And bring your guests and have them sign in, when you leave, take them with you (or sign them up and they can stay.) Bring them to watch March Madness on TV. The Trustees are here for you to voice your opinions and answer your questions; there is no such thing as a bad question, so ask us about whatever you want. We meet on Tuesdays at 5 PM, just come in and be heard. Enjoy your Social Room. Board of Trustees Come and see us for whatever may trouble you or for adding more fun to your Social Room. As I sit in heaven and watch you, everyday I try to let you know with signs, I never went away. I hear you when you re laughing and watch you as you sleep, I place my arms around you to calm you when you weep. I see you wish the days away, begging to have me home. So, I try to send you signs, so you know you re not alone. So, don t feel guilty that you have life that was denied me Heaven is truly beautiful, just you wait and see! So, love your life, enjoy yourself Laugh again Be free, Then I know with every breath you ll be taking one for me. Page 5
