2 Guatemala Mission Trip It s almost time for the short term mission trip to Guatemala. The Volunteers in Mission web site now has the important information. We are Team 15 going to Xeabaj to continue work on a sanctuary. Our dates are January We are aiming for the same fee as last year $1400 per missioner depending on final air fare costs. If you are interested in this opportunity please let me know so I can get you an application and other information. We need to have the applications turned in before Oct. 17. We re looking forward to an exciting and rewarding trip Your Brother in Christ Brad Ehrhardt at (cell). Minister to Our Youth Help minister to our youth in our church and in our community! Our envelope fundraiser is back. Envelopes are in the commons and we invite you to grab an envelope with a dollar amount on it that you can give, fill the envelope with that amount of money (you may put more than the amount on the envelope) and drop it in the offering plate. Your help allows us to minister to youth all year long! FROM THE FELLOWSHIP CIRCLE The Blanket Blessing fundraiser for the Christian Life Center by the Fellowship Circle has now added an additional $500 to their contribution to this building fund. This makes a total of $2,000. We wish to thank you for purchasing our blankets and would welcome any donation for the purchase of supplies. With the weather getting cooler and Christmas fast approaching, our blankets make the perfect gift! Senior Adult Fellowship Trip Our trip for October will be to the beautiful mountains of Boone, NC. We'll have an early lunch at The Daniel Boone Inn. Lunch price is approximately $20 plus tax and tip. Our next stop is the Mast General Store in Valle Crusis which has lots of old timey candies and other unique items. Our return time will be early evening. We'll depart Tabernacle on Thursday, October 27th at 8:00 A.M. Please advise Gaynell Faulk at or Patsy Phillips at by Monday, October 24th if you plan to attend. Adult Fellowship Group We will be going to the Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theatre in Wytheville, VA for our annual Christmas Celebration. We'll have a delicious lunch and wonderful Christmas presentation. The cost is $42, Includes meal, program and gratuity. Tickets are non-refundable. Please have your money to Gaynell Faulk by Thursday Nov 20th. We'll leave Tabernacle on WEDNESDAY, Nov 30th at 8:30. * Please note change of day from regular schedule.* If there are questions, call Gaynell Faulk at or Patsy Phillips at
3 Attention Ladies! Searching for the right class for you? An exciting new Sunday morning class is starting for women interested in studying Beth Moore s Bible Study, Believing God. It s a ten week study (but we expect for it will take longer to complete). The class will begin Sunday November 6th, and meet in the parsonage/annex. Please contact Kim Cripps at kcripps@tabernacle-umc.org or Heidi Brown at mikeheidibrown@yahoo.com for more information. } Friday, October 28th Join us for Food, Fellowship, & Fun immediately following the Southeast High home game! October 31st, 5:30pm-7pm Operation Christmas Child Packing up our Operation Christmas Child boxes is just around the corner. There is a free mini doll pattern created just for this charity. What a great way to use up some of your remnants from later projects. The finished dolls are 8 or 10 inches, which fit perfectly in the shoe boxes. If you have a group of people who would be interested in sewing these or you d like to do this individually, please let us know. Individual donations of small toys and other items are also welcomed. (Please note, no candy that might melt or toys that have war-like characteristics (guns, camo, etc.) are prohibited). For questions about contents of boxes or for the doll pattern, please contact Kim Cripps or Justin Cabe. *Come help process Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes! We are taking a group down on November 8th! You must be 13 years or older. If you would like to join in, please see Justin Cabe for more information. This year Tabernacle will host our 13th annual Trunks of Treats celebration on Halloween night.. Bring your children, friends, neighbors, and anyone you desire to our annual "Trunk or Treat". We ll have a hot dog supper and then a chance for children to safely trick (trunk)-or-treat in our parking lot. EVERYONE is invited to bring some candy for trunk-or-treaters and decorate your trunk! To make this work, we need lots of participating cars & trunks and volunteers to hand out candy. Trunkers, please park in the fellowship hall-side parking lot. This is a huge outreach event for our church and we need everyone's help. There is a box in the commons area for individually wrapped candy donations. We need LOTS of candy! Help is also needed for manning inflatables, cooking and serving at the hotdog supper, and with games. Please make it a point to consider this FUN ministry opportunity! If you can be a Trunker or help in any way possible, please contact Amy Ehrhardt at (336)
4 ANNUAL THANKSGIVING MEALS It s that time of the year again to begin thinking of how we can help our community during the holidays. One way is to support the Annual Thanksgiving Meals. We will again provide cooked and uncooked turkey dinners to families on Thanksgiving Day. This ministry has been very successful the past several years by providing a full Thanksgiving meal to families in our community and the only way it can happen is with your help. Last year we served 200 people with this ministry!! Please consider donating food, money, and/ or your time. You can even support a whole family for only $30! The meal consists of the following: Whole Turkey lbs. we sometimes have families of 6-7 to feed 5lb bag of Potatoes Family sized can of Green Beans Package of Rolls Bag or box of stuffing Can of Gravy Can of Cranberry Sauce Pie or Cake Gallon of Tea Want to volunteer your time? Here is how you can help: *Offer to cook a turkey. We usually deliver around 15 +/- cooked meals and it s easier for individuals to offer to cook those for us. They can be delivered to the church on Wednesday evening the day before Thanksgiving Day or by 9:00am on Thanksgiving Day. *Come help cook the other items on Thanksgiving Day. We will be at the fellowship hall at 9am and are usually done and delivering by 1pm. It s now a tradition for some of us and we d love to have you! *Come help us deliver the meals. We will need volunteers to help pack and deliver the uncooked meals starting at 9am on Saturday, November 19 th and we will need help delivering the cooked meals starting at 12:00pm on Thanksgiving Day. If you can help out in any way, please contact Cheryl Kendrick at or at kendrickx5@gmail.com. Be Part of Our Hospitality Team! The Hospitality Teams is off to a good start and ready for more members. The purpose is to - Welcome visitors and members so that they will experience the friendship and Christian fellowship that is present at Tabernacle. - Prepare our church for outreach and growth in our community. Jesus said Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. We are creating hospitality teams at each worship service (9:00 and 11:00 am) and at all special events. Team members will be in the parking lot, at the doors and inside the halls and foyers Team members will be recognizable with name tags and with vests for parking lot greeters As a Hospitality Team member, you can serve one Sunday a month or as many Sundays as you would like. Our next Hospitality Team training will be held on Sunday, October 30 at 3:00 4:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. We invite those who attended the first training to join us at 4:00 p.m. for a 30-minute continuation of the initial training. This will include a tour of the church (names and locations of each Sunday School classroom, nursery, church offices). We would also like your feedback on how this first month has been so we can improve. Our goal is for every member of Tabernacle to be an active member of the Hospitality ministry even if you are on one of the established teams. For more information, please call Steve Swain or steve@piedmontindusty.com.
