1 TABERNACLE TIMES OCTOBER 2017 Can we get an update? Why haven t we built a new building yet? It s been a long time! I wanna see that CLC built before I die is that something I can still hope for? How much more do we need? GOT QUESTIONS?? WE LL GIVE YOU ANSWERS! WHAT: CLC BUILDING UPDATE & CONGREGATIONAL MEETING WHEN: SUNDAY OCTOBER 22 nd during the Sunday School time 10:00-10:50a.m. WHERE: We ll meet in the TUMC Sanctuary There are a lot of questions about our building program (called the Christian Life Center - or CLC) these days. Maybe even you have some questions. Or perhaps being relatively new to TUMC, you weren t aware that we were even talking about adding to our ministry center. Pastor John and our Building Committee are calling a CONGREGATIONAL MEETING for all of our TUMC family so you can hear an update, see where we stand, and help us begin the process of assessing our next steps. In order to facilitate the majority of our congregation s presence, we will meet at 10:00 for a presentation and a brief Q&A session. THIS MEANS WE WILL NOT HAVE ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL ON THIS DAY, (although there WILL be regular Sunday School for our children, Newborn - 5th Grade that day). Please be in prayer about this meeting and the opportunity it will give for us to come together as a church family to talk about our proposed building project.

2 TRUNKS-OF-TREATS HALLOWEEN NIGHT 2017, TUESDAY, OCTOBER 31ST, 5:30-7:00PM Fall is here and Halloween is just around the corner. If you ve ever been to Tabernacle on Halloween, you know it s CRAZY! This year Tabernacle will host our 14th annual Trunks-of-Treats celebration on Halloween Night. This is a huge outreach event for our church and we need everyone's help. And, you can help by donating candy! Place your donations in the box in The Commons area; only individually wrapped candies, please. Now, we need LOTS of candy, but we also need volunteers: 1. To bring your car, with creatively decorated trunk, and help distribute candy to Trunks-of-Treaters. 2. To help man the Inflatables and Games, and cook and/or serve during the Hotdog Supper. Please contact Amy Ehrhardt at (336) if you are interested in helping in any of these ways... Thank you! Here are a few trunk decorating ideas......just have fun with it!

3 Tabernacle U.M.C. Newsletter OCTOBER nd Annual Homecoming Tailgate Party & Food Truck Event On Friday, October 13th, Tabernacle will host our 2nd Annual Homecoming Tailgate Party at the ball field before Southeast High s 2017 homecoming game. SEHS s Homecoming Parade starts in our parking lot, then travels down Methodist Road before turning on Woody Mill and ending at the high school. Our ball field is the prime location for people to gather to watch the parade and tailgate before the game. Currently we have five food trucks and vendors: Presto by Elizabeth s pizza, Rockin Grill burgers & fries, Chef Matt Koonts sliders & wings, Sunset Slush Italian Ice, and Grace & Mercy ice cream! We are inviting the entire southeast community to gather for fun, food, and fellowship before the big game. Tabernacle, this is an all hands on deck kind of event. We need your presence! Break out your corn hole boards, Kan Jam games and picnic blankets and join us between 4:30 and 7:00pm on Friday the 13th! We will need help with set-up and clean-up as well as people to greet and assist visitors. For more information on specific volunteer opportunities, please call or text Amy Ehrhardt at (336) Each food truck and vendor has agreed to donate a portion of their proceeds to Honduras missions, so while this is a fundraiser for our international mission trip next summer, it is also a huge evangelistic opportunity for us as a church! Bring your own food or help support our next missions trip to Honduras by purchasing from one of the food trucks or vendors, but please join us on the 13th and help us welcome the community onto our campus! INVITE YOUR FAMILY, FRIENDS, AND NEIGHBORS!

4 Attention Ladies! Our annual Festival of Tables is Saturday, October 14th, 2017 at 5:30pm, with many great things in store for you! You ll meet several notable Biblical women from both the New and Old Testaments, and enjoy good food, friends, and fellowship! Come enjoy dinner with us! To purchase tickets, $15 each, please contact Janice Horney at Hope to see YOU there!

Planning for 2018 has begun and there are many areas in which we can focus our prayers, presence, talents, witness, and tithes. Over the next few months, please continue to be mindful of the commitment you have made to support the operating budget of our church and know that this support allows us, as a body of believers, to touch lives in the community, state, nation, and throughout the world! If you can and would like to be a coach this year please contact Andy Griffin at or Andy@AndyPV.com I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. Psalm 34:1 Children s Sabbath Sunday, October 29th Jesus said, In as much as you have done it to one of the least of these, you have done to me. [Mt. 18] For over 20 years the Children s Defense Fund has sought to raise the awareness of the plight of children here in America and around the world. We live in a world where more children die than soldiers die from war; where 35,000 children die of malnutrition each day, and 1 in 5 children in America live in poverty. On October 29th, our service will revolve around children and God s call for us to care for each of them as they help lead us in our worship. Invite a friend and come to be blessed by this very moving service.

9 TUMC is now taking orders for fresh-cut Frasier Fir Christmas Trees! Orders due by November 20th; Pick-up Friday, November 24th! Order forms available in the Church Office, or see a member of the Honduras Missions Team! Do you love a freshly-cut Christmas tree? Do you find yourself, late in the season, at a tree lot or grocery store to purchase your tree? If so, consider TUMC as an alternative! This year, our youth and adult Honduras Mission Teams are selling fresh-cut Frazier Firs trees, wreaths, and White Pine garland from a local tree farm in West Jefferson, NC. Varying sizes are available. Please see one of the members of the Honduras Mission Team to place your order, bring your payment to the Church Office, or simply visit our website at to place your order and pay online. Pick up will be at the TUMC ball field on Friday, November 24th. All orders must be placed on or before Monday, November 20th. We appreciate your support of our upcoming trips, and are happy to offer this service! We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves. 2 Corinthians 4:7 Have a safe and happy Halloween Eve!

The dates for our trip are January 12th-22nd, 2018, and we will be continuing work on a church started last year. This church is in a very poor, rural area but despite that, the people have a Godly faith one can see displayed every day. If you are interested in accompanying us, or would like additional information, please contact Brad Ehrhardt by , or by teresa321@triad.rr.com. Applications must be completed and received by mid-october as final plane reservations are made in November. We hope you will prayerfully consider this opportunity to serve God with us next year!
