3 PEARL HARBOR HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUB E Paepae I Luna Loa I Ka Malamalama Hold High the Light of Knowledge Chartered: April 16, 1964 President s Message ALOHA MEMBERS! 2016 is quickly coming to an end. The Pearl Harbor Hawaiian Civic Club has really worked very hard this year. We have had many Scholarship projects and Community projects as well. I want to thank all of you for all of your very dedicated hard work. You have answered the kahea to come out and help and we were able to very successfully complete all of our kuleana. You are a Club that truly is an Outstanding Hawaiian Civic Club. In my opinion, our founder Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalaniana ole really had our Club in mind when he founded the Hawaiian Civic Club movement. He wanted a safe place for where his people would be able to gather and have discussions with each other and make decisions that would affect the Hawaiian people. We do this when we write resolutions for convention, discuss them and decide which one of them we will move forward to try to have them become laws and bills in our government. We will be going to Convention this year in Las Vegas where we will work on these Resolutions, deliberate over them and vote which of these Resolutions we will agree to move forward for the betterment of our people. We gather our youth, get them involved and help them to go to college by giving them scholarships so that they will become our leaders of tomorrow. We gave out 13 scholarships this 2
4 year. We teach our members to learn our arts and crafts so they may work the conventions that come to Hawai`i to share our culture and traditions with our visitors and malihini so we can earn the scholarship money to send our youth to continue their education and at the same time we are carrying on our culture for generations. Mahalo nui to all of you for helping our Club carry on our kuleana. Ho omaika i to all of our members that just got elected at our General Meeting last month. Mahalo for stepping up to be the leaders of our Club. The only way to learn is to get right in there and experience the leadership and kuleana. Our Club is a great Club to learn from because we have so much going on at any given time. You can all be very proud of what we have all accomplished. We have so much to be thankful for. Our Club meeting this month is early because of Thanksgiving. Mark your calendars. The meeting will be on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. at Halawa Gym. Bring your appetite. Jennifer will be cooking our Thanksgiving Dinner just bring your favorite dishes and desserts that go with the Turkey. See you at the Meeting. We have several KIKA GIGS coming up as you will read about further down in the newsletter. If you are able to come out and help please don t hesitate to call Toni at As you can see we will be working right up until we leave for convention. Aloha and have a very Happy Thanksgiving, Toni Lee HALI A ALOHA - Kulu ka waimaka, ue ka opua!
