1 KONA BAPTIST CHURCH A Church With A Message TERM: 2018 / Issue 3 / Date: March 2018 MARCH 2018 NEWSLETTER Hide and Seek In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. 1 Peter 1:3 You can t see me! When small children play hide and seek, they sometimes believe they re hiding just by covering their eyes. If they can t see you, they assume you can t see them. Naive as that may seem to adults, we sometimes do something similar with God. When we find ourselves desiring to do something we know is wrong, our tendency may be to shut God out as we willfully do our own way. The prophet Ezekiel discovered this truth in the vision God gave him for his people, exiled in Babylon. The Lord told him, have you seen what the elders of Israel are doing in the darkness, each at the shrine of his own idol? They say, The Lord does not see us (Ezekiel 8:12) But God misses nothing, and Ezekiel s vision was proof of it. Yet even though they had sinned, God offered His repentant people hope through a new promise: I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you (36:26) For us, God met the brokenness and rebellion of sin with His tender mercy at the cross, paying the ultimate penalty for it. Through Jesus Christ, God not only offers us a new beginning, but He also works within us to change our hearts as we follow Him. How good is God! When we were lost and hiding in our sinfulness, God drew near through Jesus, who came to seek and to save us (Luke 19:10; Romans 5:8) Thank you for your kindness to me, Lord. Help me to seek You and follow You faithfully today. God knows us completely..and loves us just as much! KONA BAPTIST CHURCH MISSION Kona Baptist Church is a Bible teaching, Bible preaching Church. We are a Southern Baptist congregation, ministering to the spiritual needs of the Kailua-Kona, Captain Cook, Kealakekua and surrounding areas of the Big Island of Hawaii. We seek to glorify God by reaching out to people with the love of Christ and the Good News, ministering to the needs of the Church, providing opportunities for people to grow in Christ, encouraging and prompting interdependent relationships with one another, glorifying God s presence together.

2 ANNIE ARMSTRONG EASTER OFFERING AND WEEK OF PRAYER: MARCH 4TH-11TH The Annie Armstrong Easter Offering (AAEO) is the primary way we support Mission efforts in North America. 100% of gifts given to AAEO are used to support Southern Baptist missionaries serving across the United States and Canada. Our Church Goal: $3, The Week of Prayer is observed March 4th-11th this year and is to specifically pray for missionaries on the field, the needs of their ministries and the needs of their families. Prayer is the fuel enabling God to spiritually and emotionally sustain missionaries in places where the gospel is greatly needed, but often opposed. Prayer guides are available in the foyer for your use. Potluck Breakfast & Parsonage Work Day Saturday, March 8:00 am It s a potluck so bring your favorite dish! All are welcome. Parsonage work immediately following. Sign up in the ante-foyer. Evangelism Training with Trey Kona Baptist Church March 12 & 13th 6:15pm-7:15pm RSVP to konabaptist3355@gmail.com SHRINER S CLINIC Friday, March 16th 8:00 am - 3:30pm downstairs in the Educational KBC Satellite clinics are an essential part of the mission at Shriner s Hospital for Children to provide much needed medical services to the community and we are honored to be able to facilitate the clinics in Kailua-Kona. If you would like to volunteer to host the Shriner s staff by providing snacks, toys/games for the children, etc. please coordinate with Tia Tagavilla. UPCOMING EVENTS - MARCH 2018 Every gift to the AAEO goes to train, resource and send more than 5,000 missionaries involved in church planting and compassion ministries across the United States and Canada. Partnership with the Southern Baptist Convention churches makes this work possible.

Join us for Vacation Bible School June 4th-8th for an exciting adventure diving deeper into God s Word! FEBRUARY EVENTS MEN S BREAKFAST - FEBRUARY 5TH This month s breakfast was one of the best turn outs yet! Glenn cooked and Coach presented the message. The Men s Breakfast has been postponed until April to allow for the Potluck Breakfast and Parsonage Work Day. MEN, MEAT & FIRE - FEBRUARY 22ND The first Men, Meat & Fire gathering was a great success! The evening was full of fellowship, fun and of course, great food! Stay tuned for the next gathering!

4 SPECIAL GUESTS - FEBRUARY 25TH The Russian Church graced us with their beautiful song singing Amazing Grace first in Russian then in English. It was a wonderful and special performance during the offering. A big MAHALO! to the singers UPDATES NURSERY DUTY Thank you to all who have volunteered. Your participation in this ministry is greatly appreciated! Pray for direction, discernment and wisdom. It is exciting to see what the Lord has in store for our Church! Aloha Kakahiaka, and a HUGE Mahalo to all of Saturdays' Volunteers. Really appreciate your help. Also thankful for all the fresh produce from University of the Nations, along with our regular supporters, we had bountiful handouts. March 24th will be our next Soup Kitchen n Pantry, and our theme will be 'Green'.Late St. Paddy's Day. Reminder, there is a sign up sheet in the Church Lobby, please take a minute to fill out, so Church and I can coordinate. We are still looking for help, a contact person for KBC, Linda can never be replaced, but the position needs help and we could also use a few more volunteers, to pass out food and help make lunch. 5 THE YOUTH UPDATES (cont.) On Wednesday evening, the Youth have been learning how to witness to others! and they also got to share their own personal testimonies in our class. We are still going over the Book of John during. The Youth will be having a couple of fundraisers from now til May to raise money for Youth Camp this summer. Please continue to pray for the Youth as we continue to share and show them God s unconditional love - Kai and Abbey Carvalho, Youth Leaders A LITTLE HUMOR
