3 Medlin Around Three days until your Norton Anti-Virus expires. Recommended procedure-- --renew NOW! I have been getting that message for two weeks and now I m down to three days. I AM ready! I have the 2011 version of Norton sitting here by my computer. But I am not going to install it until the last day! Why, you may ask. It is simply this..if I renew a little early, then next year my software will expire earlier and if I do this enough, I will eventually lose a whole month! Good grief, the software costs enough as it is. I don t want to shortchange myself in the process. I can t help but think that is how it is with Thanksgiving. Every year we hear about Halloween and Christmas earlier and earlier, and Thanksgiving gets shortchanged in the process. It is a bit pathetic, is it not? Thanksgiving has been relegated to a third-place position. I bet you there are more dollars spent now in preparation for Halloween than for Thanksgiving! I really believe that. Thanksgiving requires turkey and pumpkin pie, and giving thanks! But Halloween requires bunches of candy and costumes. I have looked at the costs of some of those costumes and can tell you that just ONE of them will easily purchase a turkey. Imagine that. I guess that really shouldn t surprise us, since we begin to hear Christmas carols as soon as the latter part of October arrives. Decorations are in homes now. They have been in businesses for awhile. Trees are lit. We think we are ready for Christmas before we even get to Thanksgiving. I don t know about you, but I m a bit confused. I love each of these holidays and holy days. I love Halloween because it is All Hallows Eve..the evening before All Saints Day. And I love Thanksgiving because it is a reminder of how survival took place for the early English settlers in this country because of the help of the Native, or First, Americans. I love Christmas because it reminds us how God is always changing life..and changing US, through the gift of little ones, and how the greatest change ever known to humanity came in the birth of his son, little Jesus. We don t want to renew our subscriptions to these holy times of life too soon! If we do, we may allow them to bump into each other, and lose their meaning! Let s stay on the timeline, because God meets us in those moments! God be close to you. Bill 3

4 LOCAL EVENTS The Winston-Salem Symphony, the Symphony Chorale and the Winston-Salem State University Singers will present Haydn s Creation under the direction of world renowned conductor Donald Neuen November 21 st and 23 rd. Call for information and tickets. Auditions for A Woman Called Truth (in honor of Black History Month) are scheduled for November 21 st and 22 nd from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Call for more information. Production dates are in February of Santa Claus is coming to Walkertown on Saturday, November 20 th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Morris Chapel UMC, 2915 Darrow Road. You will have the opportunity to tell him everything on your list and have your picture taken for a nominal fee with the option to purchase a professional package. Sedge Garden UMC, 794 Sedge Garden Road, Kernersville, is hosting the 5 th Annual Sedge Garden Community Christmas Tree Lighting on Saturday, November 27 th at 5:30 p.m. J. R. Snyder of WSJS will lead the countdown to light the 40 foot tree with 2600 LED lights and a new star. There will be holiday music, hot cider, hay rides and homemade goodies. Call for additional information. On Sunday, December 12 th at 5:00 p.m., the Alpha and Omega Youth Choir of Main Street UMC will present The First Day of Christmas. Join Nan, Dan and Tan N.
