It was reassuring to see all our Unit, Club, Association and Masonic officers and their Ladies stand for recognition and inspection. Our Colonel of the Uniformed Units, Noble Tom Crow gave overwhelming approval! Please thank these Nobles and their Ladies for their leadership and membership efforts. As we continue to keep membership at the forefront of what we do, please share the experience of celebration and fun we have at events such as the Potentate Ball. No doubt we have other Masons and friends who would enjoy this and more. Great job by Assistant Rabban Jeff Eaton and Hospital Fund drive Chairman Trace Brooks on a successful I-Hop day benefiting Shriners Hospitals for Children. The Units, Daughters of the Nile and Ladies Oriental Shrine were out in full force manning the stores and showing off the fez with smiles. Way to go Moslah! Get there early and get a seat in May and see what you are missing! The Divan, with the leadership of Chief Rabban Moe Rahmeh, completed our 2018 budget on February 24. I am happy to share that we achieved our numbers for 2017 and stayed in the black as we did in This allows us to budget even more funds toward membership. Our 2018 budget is complete and secure. That said, the number one priority in setting the 2018 budget is membership. A few of the benefits you will see is a new Moslah phone app, games nights (coed and stag) and a summer Cornhole tournament in the air-conditioned Temple ballroom. Ask your High Priest and Prophet, Gerald about this fun event! Updated website and more! Please attend the March business meeting for more details. The March business meeting on Thursday, March 8 (dinner starting at 6:00 p.m. and meeting at 7:00 p.m.) will have an update on the details from our Divan Mid-Winter business meeting. We will also have an update on Shriners International and Shriners Hospitals for Children. There are changes in hospital operations being scheduled for voting at the 2018 Imperial Secession. 3 Membership Nobles of Moslah Shrine! Here we are in 2018 and things are already in full swing! I hope that the year has been a good one for you thus far and will continue to be as we move into Spring! To begin, I thought it best to introduce myself to those of you who may not know who I am and what my role as Membership Chairman entails. My name is Cody Cox and I am currently the Junior Warden at Tarrant Lodge #942 here in Fort Worth. My lady, Karen Cox, is an active member in the Daughters of the Nile, Rithmah Temple No. 93. I might also mention she is the Membership Chair there as well, which will be important to remember later! Being a Shriner was something I started thinking about early in my Masonic career and finally got the gumption to ask someone about it. Many thanks to Jeff Ingram for being relentless in pushing me to join and get involved! I began my Shrine life in the summer of 2015 when I got my Fez at the Imperial session in Houston, which was an experience I won t soon forget! I took part in the Fall Ceremonial that October and dove head first into all things Shrine. I did take some time to find my niche, as I suggest ALL nobles to do, but eventually found my place here at Moslah with the Bedouins, who have become my extended family. As your Membership Chairman, I see my role here at Moslah as tri-fold. I am here to SERVE you, the membership, in many ways. I am here to LISTEN to your ideas, thoughts, and critiques. I want to know what you think! With that being said, I always appreciate when people come up with SOLUTIONS, not just talk about problems. I am here to be a RESOURCE for any and all units and clubs. Do you have an idea for membership you just can t seem to put into words or action? I can help! Do you need to know where to start? I can help! Need an approach to membership that might seem outside-the-box? I WANT to help with that! As Illustrious Sir Barcafar has alluded to in his visits and messages in the Moslah News, I am here to LEAD by example and through service. I will not ask you, the members of Moslah, to do something that I will not do myself. In closing, spring is a time of renewal and growth, and so should it be with Moslah! As your Membership Chairman, I challenge each of you to think about how YOU can contribute to the growth and renewal of Moslah. To start off, make sure you have created/ updated your account on Webfez (bit.ly/webfez) so that we can have accurate records of you, our members. Also, as hopefully has been discussed at your unit/club meetings, take a few moments to fill out the Blue Lodge Ledger (bit.ly/msbll) so that we here at Moslah know at which lodges our members are and should be! Lastly, and most importantly, make sure to get on the I AM R U website (bit.ly/mosiamru) and refer a brother from your lodge, group, or even a family member you think would make a GREAT Moslah Shriner! We have a goal of 35 members before Imperial session in July and we already have 10, so we need more. Oh, remember how I told you my wife is Membership Chair at Rithmah? Yah, she already has 30 new sisters thus far, so, unless you want me to always remember that year my wife totally showed me up, I NEED YOUR HELP! Also, please make sure to attend the temple business meeting on the evening of March 8 at 7:00 and especially on March 25 for the annual Easter Egg hunt! Bring everyone you can to showcase the great family atmosphere we have here. Plus, it is just another reason for why someone SHOULD be a Shriner! Thanks go out to our High Priest and Prophet, Gerald Ledbetter, for his leadership with Membership. Make sure to bring any prospects to him so he can shake their hand and be introduced! Thank YOU for all YOU do Corner to continue to make Moslah a great place! Fraternally, Cody Cox 3

5 Howdy Fellow Shriners! On March 17 th, an estimated 25,000 people will gather in historic downtown Mansfield for the fabulous Mansfield Pickle Parade events. The proud home to Best Maid Pickles and the Pickle Queens, Mansfield is officially the Pickle Capital of Texas. This parade has about 90 floats in it and is a great way to spend the day! Your Car-Vette unit is honored to be invited again and would like to invite any and all units to be in this parade as well. Shriners really know how to parade and it would give us a favorable fez time in front of lots of people!!!! This is an event celebrated each spring with the now world-famous St. Paddy s Day Pickle Parade & Fun-A-Palooza. It s a huge oneday celebration of all things green! General admission is free. At 10am the food court and the vendor markets open. At 11am Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders start signing autographs, the beer tents open and the Run 4 Cover band starts playing, followed by the Downtown Fever band and winding up with Cajun legend Wayne Toups. The baby parade starts at 10 a.m., the pet parade starts at 12 noon, and the official St. Paddy s Pickle Parade starts at 1pm. There are plenty of things to see, eat and hear for everyone. Talk about a great day for you and your kids/grandkids. For information about registering your units to parade, contact Jerry (940)

We are finished with our Unit visits and starting on our Club and Association visits and Masonic Lodges as well. Please make every effort to stay involved with your Lodge as much as possible. Also keep in mind TSA is just around the corner (a little over twelve weeks away) so let s make a big impression on Tyler, TX. Please keep your eyes and ears open to help High Priest and Prophet Gerald make all of our future membership events a success. Check out the calendar on the website or call the office. Please take advantage of I AM RU at shrinenet.org to sign up prospective members. It s easy and it works! Also, keep Cody Cox, your best friend and Membership Chairman, on speed dial. Our goal for new members in 2018 is 35. With the enthusiasm I see every day in Moslah I think we can beat that goal. Did I mention the March business meeting on Thursday, March 8 with dinner starting at 6:00 p.m. and meeting at 7:00 p.m.? I didn t want you to miss that date. It s not only informative of the operations at Moslah, it is fun. We do serve refreshments after the business meeting along with good fellowship of your Brothers. And Ladies, please keep your calendar marked for the May 10 Ladies program. See you there! Yours in the Faith Jeff Barcafar Potentate

It was so nice to see our wonderful ladies all gussied up and I believe a great time was had by all who attended. Best wishes to our new Potentate, Jeff Barcafar (Jeffy) and all of his Divan. Hope you have a great year guys, have lots of fun!!! March made it! This month starts off with National Pig Day on March 1 (try not to eat any pork this day), our 1836 Texas Independence Day from Mexico on the 2 nd, National Anthem Day 3 rd, Labor Day 5 th, Temple business meeting 8 th, Daylight Savings Time 11 th, St. Patrick s Day 17 th, National Corn Dog Day 17 th, Spring has sprung 20 th, National Goof Off Day (I REALLY like this one!) 22 nd, Moslah Easter Egg Hunt as well as National Medal of Honor Day are both on the 25 th, National Pancake Day 27 th and your Texas Rangers start the season against Houston on the 29 th. Yep, gonna be a good month. Want to check out some parades? We did the parade in Lake Dallas, had a good time but it was cold. Mansfield is having its annual Pickle Parade on the 17 th of March. Ennis has bluebonnets, Parker County has peaches and Mansfield has pickles! This really is a good parade. Since it s also St. Patrick s Day, you can fit right in with a pickle green shirt and not get pinched! Your Car-vettes will be there with our colorful cars; this is another one of our favorite parades. If you do go, feel free to come by and visit with us in the staging area before the parade starts. Oh yeah, as an early heads up, a special and really great parade will be on April 7. It s the very impressive Medal of Honor parade in Gainesville and I ll say again, it s an honor that we Car-vettes were again asked to participate in it. I do wish more of Moslah was in this one! You really want to be there to see the MOH awardees and the parade for a good time! Colonel Cecil has called our first 2018 practice for the first Sunday in March, weather permitting. The drivers that may be selected to represent our unit in competition this year are going to be honing their skills so they can represent Moslah proudly. Safety is always number one with our unit, but showmanship is right up there also. Here s an invite to you folks who may want to come out to watch our practices, laugh some and visit with us. We d really like to have you there. A Dutch-treat lunch somewhere will most likely follow. Some of our wonderful Car-vette ladies also join us at practice to add support and class to our endeavors, so if you come, bring your lady with you. Betcha didn t know... The human heart creates a lot of pressure when it pumps blood out to the body, it can squirt blood 30 feet. (OMG!) The city of Houston, Texas has a program where they train citizens to write tickets for handicap parking violations. After taking a course in proper procedure, they are given the authority to ticket anyone they see parked in a handicap spot without a placard. This is a good thing. 12

13 When President Eisenhower created the freeway system in 1956, rules were, if it s an even numbered freeway, it runs East and West. If it s an odd numbered freeway, it runs North and South. If it s a 3-digit freeway, it makes a loop around the city. Pretty cool idea, huh? Oh yeah, you may have heard that it was mandated that one mile in every five was perfectly straight for emergency airplane landings. Nope, that s just not true... never was! BTW... have you ever forwarded the Moslah News on to a non-shriner mason friend of yours so he can read it also? It just may gain his curiosity enough for you to recruit him into the Shrine. Nobles, if you are looking to join a unit that will give you a big reason to be proud and have camaraderie and enjoyment for your entire family, look no further. The Car-Vettes is the one for YOU! Yep, you too can proudly wear one of our bright yellow unit shirts and maybe drive one of the classy looking little yellow cars (it s a specialized grown up gocart). Just join our unit and get involved with our activities. We offer a positive, friendly and fun family environment to enrich your Shrine experience. If any Noble would like more information or to test drive one of our cool looking yellow cars, all you have to do is let us know. Don t be bashful, you can contact President Frank Treadaway at , Colonel Cecil LeMond at , or really, any of our members. We are a VERY proud bunch of fellas and will be happy to talk to you about our specialized unit. Chuck Huddleston, Car-Vettes Flying Fez What s Happening with Moslah Flying Fez The installation of officers for the current year was performed by Illustrious Potentate Jeff Barcafar on Sunday, January 28, 2018, at the Elks Lodge on White Settlement Rd. A most wonderful meal was enjoyed by all prior to the installation. Congratulations to the following Line Officers who have agreed to serve the Association for the ensuing year. Brandon Chad Reese - Commander; Robert Byrd - Deputy Commander; John Huffman, Past Commander - Treasurer; and John Merk, Past Commander - Secretary. The installation of the following appointed officers was performed by Chief Rabban Moe Rahmeh: Operations Officer - Bud Merwin, Maintenance Officer - Mitchell Smith, Logistics Officer - John Reynolds, who was unable to attend and Chaplain Robert Rodriquez, Past Commander was absent due to illness. Thanks to each of you who has excepted this responsibility to serve the Association. No doubt, with this fine core of officers, Moslah Flying Fez will continue to do what we do best, TRANSPORTATION of our precious patients to and from our hospitals. As we roll into the new year, we wish our best to our Potentate, Illustrious Sir Jeff Barcafar and Lady Diana. Nobles and Ladies, we have a great leadership team and office staff, please let s continue to show them our support and appreciation. Let us never forget our duty and responsibility to Moslah Shrine, which is to safely transport our precious children to the Shriner s Hospitals in Shreveport, LA, Houston, Texas and the Burn Hospital in Galveston, as well as Lee s Family Dental Clinic in Missouri City, TX. What an honor and privilege to be entrusted with such an awesome responsibility and the Nobles who drive the van and perform this vital service are second to none. They see first-hand, with each trip to the hospitals, and talking with and hugging those beautiful smiling faces, what it means to be a Shriner. Thank You, Thank You, for what you do for the children. You make the hospital van tires roll, so as to enhance the standard that these young patients may enjoy a more normal and fruitful life. In addition to providing this essential service for Moslah Shrine Center, these Flying Fez Nobles also work the street and storefronts to collect money for our hospitals, International House Of Pancake date, participate in various parades, and work the Shrine Circus, all which are fun activities and enjoyed by all. If you are a Noble, and currently not with a Uniform Unit or a Noble in another unit and would like to see how we have a great time and serve our fraternity, we would welcome you to visit and join us. In closing, I would like to quote our Operations Officer for Moslah Shriner s Flying Fez Association, Noble George W. Bud Merwin, III with his closure on each and every trip he schedules us to make. He thanks us for making the trip and reminds us to Drive to Arrive Alive. Thank you Bud for your valuable and appreciated service you provide to the Shrine and the Flying Fez. Kindest Regards, Robert Byrd, Deputy Commander Rolling for the Children 13
