This night is also special as the Chapter will be celebrating its 50 th Year and honoring the Chapters Charter Members. This night will also be to install the new officers for the upcoming year. 2 ENTERTAINMENT We will have entertainment provided during dinner by J.K. Country Duo. Check out their website: jkcountryduo.com There just aren't enough adjectives to describe the dynamic singing duo of Jeff and Karen Griggs. Their universal appeal...be it country, gospel, bluegrass, or rock n roll... brings their audiences to their feet with resounding bravos of applause. Jeff shared the stage and opened shows for such talents as, Alan Jackson, Susie Bogus, Little Jimmy Dickens, Moe Bandy, and Porter Waggoner. Having won a talent show in Branson, Missouri he moved his family to this new Mecca of the Country music scene. Jeff appeared in several shows on a daily basis, but decided to move his family back to Texas to await the birth of their second son. In November 1999 Jeff, Karen, and family moved to Nashville to peruse their musical career. Jeff soon entered a talent contestant the Grand Ole Opry, and won first place. Jeff and Karen appeared nightly at the Opry Land Hotel for several months, but returned to Texas due to family illness. Karen's dynamic and melodic vocal renditions expanded beyond scholastic operettas and choir competitions, to Christmas shows, and other noted musical festivals such as the State Fair of Texas. Their voices, coupled with Jeff's unblemished expertise on string instruments, have been compared to that of George Jones and Tammy Wynette, as well as Porter Waggoner and Dolly Parton. GREETINGS PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Rick O Connor I would like to thank everyone for attending the meeting last month. We have had a great year for attendance and I look forward to seeing everyone at our Past Presidents meeting on June 18th. Well, this is my last Presidents message. It has been my sincere pleasure to have been your president for the chapter year. We did a great job for ASHRAE research this year with a lot of work from Sid Ellis, John Rhodes, and Jay Sullivan with the Golf Tournaments and the generous donations by you the chapter members. I look forward to being involved with ASHRAE Research next year and turn over the President s responsibilities to David James. I look forward to seeing everyone at the August meeting as David leads the chapter into Respectfully, Rick O Connor Chapter President Their love for music, and for each other, shines through their harmony and dedication to their many music fans. For great harmony and a full band sound, Jeff and Karen Griggs will compliment any event you plan. The fellowship with each other, reflections of past years in ASHRAE, and music provided by this special duo will make the evening of our 50 th Anniversary a night to remember.

3 BOARD OF GOVERNORS MEETING May 21, 2008 Jay Martin, Secretary Attendees: Rick O Connor, David James, Ian Bost, Sid Ellis, Cody Pace, Les Brown, Tony Finch, Richard Waters, W.O. Kelly, and Dan Merkel. Meeting Called to order at 10:43 am by Rick O Connor, Chapter President Reports: President-Elect (David James): The Past-presidents night will take place on June 18 th at Los Vaqueros in the Stockyards. Happy hour begins at 6:30, with Dinner served at 7:15. Charter members Tom Romine, Jim Chatmas, Jack Higgins, and Bill Halsey will be attending. Secretary (Jay Martin, NIA): No report. Treasurer (Ian Bost): Ian provided a hand-out showing the cost breakdown for the luncheons for this past year. We lost money on a number of occasions and it appears that this has been due to overestimating our attendance. It also appears as though the Petroleum Club s charges vary on a perperson basis from month to month. Ian will meet with the Club to find out how the accounting was done. Board of Governors (Cody Pace): No report. Board of Governors (Sid Ellis): No report. Board of Governors (Les Brown): No report. Committee Chairs: Membership Promotion (Garrett Brown, NIA): No report. Student Activities (Tony Finch): Our student team s report has been finished, It was forwarded to the Regional Chairperson for judging. Tony will coordinate with our incoming Student Activities Chairman to ensure we continue our successes at UTA. Chapter Technology Transfer (Richard Waters): No report. Research Promotion (Sid Ellis): No report. Refrigeration (Richard Long, NIA): No report. Honors & Awards (Don Hardin, NIA): No report. Newsletter (David James): No report. Webmaster (John Rhodes, NIA): No report. Historian (Dan Merkel): We have a lead on a speaker (Jeff Crilly) that specializes in teaching how to generate positive publicity for organizations. He comes recommended from the Dallas Chapter. We may try to use New Business: him at a regular meeting next year. We may want to circulate questionnaires among our membership so that we can have member profiles available. We could also invite one member each month to provide a brief biography prior to the selfintroduction portion of the program. Special Events (Jay Sullivan, NIA): No report. Special Events (W.O. Kelly): W.O Kelly motioned, that we let the charter members of our Chapter attend the past presidents night free of charge. Richard Waters seconded the motion and it passed a vote. W.O. motioned that we spend $300 to invite a country band for entertainment for the past presidents night. They charge $200 for the first hour and $100 every hour after. The motion was seconded and passed a vote. We need to improve our collection of RSVPs for our luncheons next year to ensure we don t lose money each month. We will consider having an RSVP the week before the meeting and then a separate with the newsletter the Monday preceding the meeting. This discussion was tabled pending a discussion with John Rhodes about how we might go about distributing information next year. President Rick O Connor adjourned the meeting at 11:22 am.

4 CHAPTER MEETING MINUTES May 21, 2008 Ian Bost, Secretary Meeting Called to order at 12:03 pm by Rick O Connor, Chapter President Rick O Connor, Chapter President, presiding. Rick welcomed everyone with (46) members and (3) guests present. Ian Bost, Treasurer, introduced guests. Members did self introductions. New Business: A motion to approve the meeting minutes for last month was made by W.O. Kelly, seconded by Cody Pace and passed a vote of the chapter. The Past President s Night will be next month. This is our 50 th year as a chapter so we ve invited our charter members to attend. Six of the original members have confirmed that they will be there. It will be held at Los Vaqueros on North Main Street, it will start at 6:30, Dinner will be served at 7:15. There will be a band. Please see W.O. Kelly, Sid Ellis, David James or Rick O Connor for tickets. David James will be taking over as Chapter President for at the next meeting. RSVPs for meetings are very important, if we guess wrong on attendance and we have to pay for more meals than people, we have to make up the difference out of the general Chapter fund. Please try to let us know in the future if you will be attending the meeting from month to month. We do not have a meeting in July. Our next meeting after the Past President s will be In August. Remember that we usually meet the same time every month 3 rd Wednesday at 11:30a in the Petroleum Club. Technical Session Minutes: Richard Watters introduced our speaker: Speaker: Mr. Bret Privitt Program: Building Commissioning and how it relates to the LEED process Biography: Bret Privitt is the President of Air Balancing Company of Fort Worth, Texas. He is Certified by the Associated Air Balancing Council for Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing. He is also Certified by ACG for Building Commissioning. Bret is Chairman of the ACG Commissioning Technician training program and co-author of the ACG Commissioning Guideline. He has been performing test and balance services for 21 years, commissioning for 8 years, and has specific experience commissioning LEED projects for the past 3 years. Synopsis: Commissioning is integral to the LEED certification process. There is a level (Basic) of commissioning that is a prerequisite for certification and there is another level (Enhanced) that will get you an additional point. If there is a desire to obtain the Enhanced level, the commissioning agent will need to be involved from the beginning of the design process. Closing: Rick O Connor adjourned the meeting at 12:46 pm. 7 Advertising Looking for a specific product??? ****************************************************************************************** NOTICE COPPER WIRE,,,,,, After having dug to a depth of 10 feet last year, New York scientists found traces of copper wire dating back 100 years and came to the conclusion that their ancestors already had a telephone network more than 100 years ago. Not to be outdone by the New Yorkers, in the weeks that followed, California scientists dug to a depth of 20 feet, and shortly after, headlines in the LA Times newspaper read: 'California archaeologists have found traces of 200 year old copper wire and have concluded that their ancestors already had an advanced high-tech communications network a hundred years earlier than the New Yorkers.' One week later, 'The Star Telegram', a local newspaper in Fort Worth reported the following: 'After digging as deep as 30 feet in cow pastures, Bubba, a self-taught archaeologist, reported that he found absolutely nothing. Bubba has therefore concluded that 300 years ago, Texas had already gone wireless.' And you thought this article was about all the theft and cost of copper today.
