Trew, Jr. Potentate Nobles and ladies of Moslah: It s hard to believe that we re nearly halfway through It seems that time has flown by. The Moslah units are busy preparing for TSA competition, which is just around the corner. Moslah is ALWAYS the best represented Temple every year at TSA, and this year will be no different. Your Divan will be at every competition that we can make to cheer you on. Good luck to every unit in putting forth their best effort, and let s make Moslah proud and bring home some trophies! We have concluded our spring hospital fund drive efforts, and they were a rousing success. Although Granbury and Gainesville Shrine Clubs conducted their fundraising later than ours in Fort Worth, they came in very strong and helped us cross the finish line with a great showing. Special thanks to Trace Brooks and his committee for a job well done. We also conducted a Legacy Program in May in the hopes of attracting family members of Masons and Shriners into our fraternity. The program in general, and the speakers Shrine Hospital Board Members William Risk, M.D., P.P..Galveston Hospital Chairman Emeritus Gary E. Thanks to Assistant Rabban Moe Rahmeh in planning and putting this together. As I write this article, we just concluded the Memorial Service for the families of deceased Nobles in the past year. What a great tribute it was. Thanks to our Chaplain, Joe Williams, for delivering a most moving message. I must mention that the black camel has unfortunately visited four Past Potentates this year, namely Illustrious Sirs George Nelson, James Fry, Yale Lary and John Dieb. These men were great Shriners and leaders of Moslah. Please keep their families in your thoughts during these difficult times. In that regard, we should all realize that life is fleeting, and we should not take anything for granted. Be grateful and celebrate your many blessings, especially your family and friends. Although we re going dark for the summer, our membership efforts should never go dark. Each of you are ambassadors for Masonry, Shrinedom and our causes. Please keep up the efforts to forever maintain our fraternity and philanthropy. Yours in the faith, Phil Trew, Potentate Kenneth W. Baker John A. Hillaker James R. 3 Circus Ad Sales Nobles, I am Marvin Champlin, the Moslah Circus Ad Sales Campaign Chairman for This message is for all Nobles, Units, Associations and Clubs. Why are we talking about Circus Ad Sales this early? Here are some facts: Ad Sales are about 20% of all Moslah income. Since 2013, the income from Circus Ads has gone from over $112,000 to $53,000. This trend does not seem to be a result of membership loss. Rather, we renew what we have and then stop But the renewals themselves are dropping. What can we do? It is within our power to both reverse the trend and the old way of doing things with Circus Ads. FIRST, in 2017, we will RECOVER OLD NON-RENEWED ADS. Jeff Barcafar and the Office Staff pulled together a list of 2013 and 2014 lost ads. These will be distributed to see if they can be renewed. A 50% commission will be paid on any renewals dating back to 2013 and 2014 sales. on the RECOVERED AD income. SECOND, all Nobles, Units, Associations and Clubs will SUBSTANTIALLY INCREASE NEW ADS AND WILL SELL OUR NEW OFFERINGS! TELL YOUR NEW AND OLD CUSTOMERS ABOUT THIS NEW OFFERING! Upgrade any video ad [THE ELECTRONIC DISPLAY AD] to a Business/Professional Service Ad. This will also get you a black & white printed ad in the program as follows: Full Page Circus Video ad. Additional $100 Business/Professional Service Ad-1/2 page copy of ad in printed program (Total Ad Cost $375) 1/2 Page Circus Video ad. Additional $50 Business/Professional Service Ad-1/ 4 page copy of ad in printed program (Total Ad Cost $210) ¼ Page Circus Video ad. Additional $25 Business/Professional Service Ad-1/8 (business card) page copy of ad in printed program (Total Ad Cost $120) Can be sold to individuals if they want to pay additional fee to have in print THIRD, THE AD SALES CAMPAIGN WILL NOT GO DARK FOR THE SUMMER! Units/Clubs/Associations all should have Ad Sales Pep Rallies this summer. BRAINSTORM! And all GENERAL NOBILITY: Watch Moslah News. The Temple Office has Ad Sales Packets for you. If you can receive and can print it, I can a full copy. Just send me an to marvinchamplin@champlinlaw.com. Ain t it a gas!! LET S SELL ADS! 8 Mystic Wheels Hello Nobles and Ladies! TSA is upon us. The Mystic Wheels are putting the final touches on a really good drill for We have a lot of competition in Waco but we expect to defend our Number One ranking! We ride early on Friday morning and we can be available to help out another unit with their competition staging or what have you. Please call if we can help. 9 Car-Vettes It s June already... you re kidding, right??? Since June is named after the Roman goddess Juno, who is the wife of Jupiter and is also equivalent to the Greek goddess Hera, be careful, we probably don t really want to make any of the Gods mad this month! Keep your grass mowed and your air conditioner working. Yep, we re almost half way through the year and moving right along. TSA time is coming soon, 15th to 17th of June to be exact and it s in Waco this year. Well, not to worry, your Car-vettes are looking good and are bound to bring home a trophy once again. The drill team finally got some dry weather so they did get to practice some, enough to win. Since they practiced and looked so good in the winds of May, they will do just great in the warm calm of June. We have our unit room reservations at the Hilton hotel and are ready to leave fantastic Fort Worth to have some wonderful Waco fun. Since there is not another newsletter when we are dark, here is a heads up notice for the 4th of July parade in Arlington. This really is a great parade each year, attended by about 50,000 onlookers scattered over the route. A perfect opportunity to show the fez to some of the fine folks who gave us so much money on the street corners. Your Car-vettes will be there again and hope to see some other Moslah units there also. After all, Arlington is our next door neighbor! After the parade, get back home to your air conditioner, be with family and friends break out the BBQ and be careful with the fireworks. Whatever you choose to do, enjoy our 241st celebration of independence! There is one more parade that I think you will enjoy and that is the Crowley parade which is scheduled for the 8th of 10:00 AM. This is another good parade that we are planning to be at and would like to see some of you there also. As usual, we hope that you will come visit us in the staging area at the Crowley High School, we can use your help. Hey fellas, are you really getting the most out of your Shrine membership? I invite any and all of the general nobility to learn something about each of the 12 units, 9 clubs, and 2 associations Moslah offers. Pick one to investigate further and maybe join to increase your Shrine social experiences. You now can even join two units at the same time and double your fun, how bout that! Sure it s going to take some of your do nothing time, but all of the units need you and you just may find that you really do enjoy the camaraderie they have to offer. Your lady most likely will share in the enjoyment with you since so many of our Shrine family activities include them. Don t forget to check with your Masonic buddies about joining our Shrine, they probably like to have fun also! Betcha didn t know... Medieval castle stairs were very often built to ascend in very narrow, clockwise spirals so right handed castle defenders could use their swords more easily. This design put those intruders on their way up at a fighting disadvantage (unless they were left-handed). During the American Revolution war, the legal separation of the 13 Colonies from Great Britain in 1776 actually occurred on July 2nd, not July 4th. That was the day when the second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independence declaring the United States independent from Great Britain rule. After voting for independence, Congress debated and revised the wording of the Declaration, finally approving it two days later on July 4. The Pentagon has no marble in its foundation because it was built during World War II, and Italy, the source of marble, was an enemy country at the time. Nobles... if you are looking to join a unit that will give you a BIG return on camaraderie and enjoyment, look no further, the Car-vettes is the one for YOU! Yep, you too can wear one of our bright yellow unit shirts and maybe drive one of the classy looking little yellow cars, just join our unit and help us with our activities. We offer a positive, friendly and fun environment to enrich your Shrine experience. If any Noble is wondering about joining our unit and would like information or to test drive one of our super classy little yellow cars, all you have to do is let us know. Don t be bashful, you can contact President R. J. Forester at , Colonel Cecil LeMond at , or really, any of our members. We are a VERY proud bunch of fellas and will be happy to talk to you about our specialized unit. Chuck Huddleston, Car-Vettes 9 Please join us Thursday June 22nd, :00 PM To 9:30 PM At the Masonic Temple Ballroom for The Moslah VICTORY Games Night Please come and bring your entire family. Help us celebrate with all our TSA competing units with fun and games. Dinner served at 6:30 PM We have a very proud history of winning at TSA, and there is no better way to celebrate our victories than with each other.
