From the Assistant Rabban From the Assistant Rabban On June 9 and 10, the DFW GI Joe Club held their annual GI Joe and Action Figure Show at the Grapevine Convention Center. For the last several years, the group has allowed Moslah to set up a booth to inform attendees about Shriners and our Hospitals. Special thanks to Chad Reese of the Flying Fez Unit for working the booth on Saturday. On Sunday, Illustrious Sir Jeff Barcafar and I had the pleasure of attending and visiting with the folks attending the show. Near the end of the show Sunday, the GI Joe Club presented Illustrious Sir Jeff with a check for $650 to go to our Hospitals. Special thanks to the DFW GI Joe Club for their efforts in assisting Shriners Hospitals for Children. Yours in the Faith, Jeff Eaton 3
Attention all Nobles of Moslah! Please, as soon as TODAY go to shrinenet.org/referral and mark this on your phone and computer. Next, start recommending friends, relatives, co-workers and Masons that are not Shriners. This is easy and it will bring new members. Membership is our number one priority. Do this today and make membership your number on priority. The time is now to act! Jeff Barcafar-Potentate
Shriners Hospitals News As we approach Imperial Session in July, an air of change is in the wind for our hospital system. The Joint Boards which operate the system retained a consulting firm to analyze our efficiencies of operation. Some of the results are now in. First, we have several hospitals which simply do not have the in-patient volume to maintain certification and operate in a cost effective manner. These include Twin Cities in Minnesota, Tacoma and Tampa. Additionally, providing acute burn care treatment in Boston and Cincinnati has been found to be cost inefficient. Evaluations are underway to determine how Shriners Health System can continue to provide our services to children in these areas in a more efficient manner even if it means not having brick and mortar facilities of our own. Likely solutions may include partnering with other medical institutions with our financial support and Shriners branding. From our local perspective, the good news is that our Galveston and Houston Hospitals are sound. In fact, Galveston is likely to see an expansion in services as it absorbs acute burn care patients which would otherwise have gone to Boston or Cincinnati. If you have questions or concerns, always feel free to ask your Hospital Board Members: Mike Wallach for Galveston and Richard Baker and David Henderson for Houston. As a final caveat, this could all change at Imperial Session in July! Details to follow! Mike Wallach Welcome to AmazonSmile! Thank you for supporting Shriners Hospitals for Children. Remember, always start at smile.amazon.com and Amazon will donate 0.5% of the price of your eligible AmazonSmile purchases. 5

Hey there, fellow Nobles, are you ready to have some family fun and celebrate the 4 th of July by watching a really good parade?? Your Car-Vettes are going to again be in Arlington Texas to help them celebrate their 53 rd parade for the 4 th of July. Yes, it s all about enjoying that special event when we won our independence from Great Britain. On July 2, 1776, the Continental Congress voted for independence, issuing the official declaration on July 4 th. The ensuing American Revolutionary War ( ) gave us our freedom. What better way to enjoy the day than to go to the parade in Arlington? This parade has had as many as 75,000 people attend; the word must be out what a good parade it is! It starts at 9:00 and is over at 11:00, so you need to get there early and find a good place along the route to watch from, that is if you aren t going to be in it. Your Car-Vette unit feels honored to be invited again and we would also like to invite any and all Moslah units to be in this parade as well. Shriners really know how to parade, giving us another favorable fez time in front of lots of people. For more information on the parade, including a map of the route, go to its website here: It s gonna be another good un! 8

All Unit, Club & Association Leaders We are entering the second half of 2018 and it is important to remember to notify the Illustrious Sir and Divan several months ahead of time if you want them to attend your events or meetings. Also, remember to ask for permission regarding dates before making plans. Temple events always take priority. Get your events approved and on the Temple calendar, so you are not disappointed. This is especially true for the end of year events like Christmas Parties, etc. Keep in mind the number of invitations they receive, and the fact that they want to support everyone, makes timely invitations necessary. Yours in the faith, John Henderson, Business Manager Mystic Wheels TSA has come and gone and what a great time it was. Our two teams were awesome, fought through a couple of mechanical problems and scored a 2nd and 3rd place finish. The Racin Masons There were many long hours invested and a lot of hard work by all members involved. We ll be back next year! What a great hospitality room we had and many thanks to Bill and Emily Jones along with Weezy and April Wiesner for an outstanding event. They really know how to create a party! Great food, drink, fun was in abundance and a fine time was had by all. It was great to have Illustrious Sir Jeff, that great Moslah Divan, and their Ladies come visit. Thanks for the kind words! The Colonel will be starting practice for Obstacle Course in July. This is a very fun event and if you have not ridden it, you should. 400 ft of twists/turns just you against the clock. 19 Car-Vettes more than $2.5 billion on hot dogs in That same year, Los Angeles residents ate more hotdogs than any other city, more than 39 million hotdogs! (I ll bet we Texans eat more steaks per person than they do) Super news... your famous Moslah Car-Vette drill team won a trophy again at the 2018 TSA competition in Tyler on June 8th. Colonel Cecil LeMond led the team consisting of Dan Eaves, Mike Pool and Rusty Allen in a fast paced and very precise drill that was great to watch. Way to go fellas, each of you did good and represented Moslah in a great showing! (In addition, all of Moslah motorized units as well as the Bedouin band put on really outstanding performances and deserve a tip of the fez!) Also, Dan & Susan Eaves did a super good job for our Car-Vette hospitality room. They prepared some great tasting meals, we had plenty of food, snacks and drinks. A tip of the fez to you two for your efforts! We hope you enjoyed the July 4th Independence Day celebrating the signing of the declaration of Independence from Great Britain in Other days in July: the 15th was National Ice Cream day, the 18th was National Hot Dog day, the 24th was National Tequila day, the 29th was National Lasagna day, and the 30th was National Cheesecake day. Sure do hope you enjoyed those special days. August has the 3rd as International Beer Day (taste a new one) 7th is Purple Heart Day (remember those guys & gals), 14th is Senior Citizens Day (hug one today), 24th is National Waffle Day, 26th is National Dog Day (Great time to adopt a new family member!!!). As usual, we really enjoyed participating in the 4th of July parade in Arlington. About 50,000 excited onlookers were there to watch us as we cruised by over the route. The other parade that we enjoyed being at was the Crowley celebration of freedom parade on the 7th of July. This grand event is to express gratitude and support for the U.S. military and their families. Also, for planning, remember the Sportsman Spectacular night on 8/18 and the Moslah Margaritaville Casino Bus Trip on 8/26 thru 8/27 to Bossier city. Betcha didn t know... During World War II, ice cream was served to troops to boost their morale while sanctions and rationing was in effect for the general public. When the war ended, rationing of ice cream was lifted and Americans celebrated victory with a cold, creamy treat. In fact, each American consumed more than 20 quarts of ice cream in (20 quarts of Blue Bell could just about feed the Car-Vettes on a hot day) According to Guinness World Records, the world s largest lasagna was created by Magillo Restaurant and Macro Supermarket in Wieliczka, Poland. On June 20, 2012, more than 5,000 people contributed to making the enormous lasagna that measured 75 ft. by 7.5 ft. and it contained 1,864 lbs. of meat, 132 gallons of tomato sauce, 5,512 lbs. of lasagna pasta sheets and 882 lbs. of mozzarella cheese. (Fantastic feel good meal) Several popular misconceptions exist about our Liberty Bell. First, no one called it the Liberty Bell during the American Revolution. The bell was initially known as the State House Bell in Pennsylvania. People didn t begin referring to it as the Liberty Bell until abolitionists labelled it as such during the 1800s. Second, the notion that the bell cracked after being enthusiastically rung by patriots on July 4, 1776, is pure bunk. Actually it probably didn t ring at all on that famous day, because the bell began to crack years earlier, starting in 1752, and required constant maintenance. The crack that you see today when visiting the bell in Philadelphia likely occurred in the 1840s. Hey guys, you do know that you can now join two units at the same time and double your fun, don t you? Sure it s going to take some of your do nothing time, but what the hey...you only go around once. Your lady most likely will share in the enjoyment with you since we have so many Shrine family activities. Don t forget to check with your Masonic buddies about joining Moslah too, some of them probably would like to have fun and help our kids! Fellow Nobles, if you are looking to join a unit that will give you a big reason to be proud and having camaraderie and enjoyment, look no further. Moslah Car-Vettes is the one for YOU! Yes sir, you too can proudly wear one of our bright yellow unit shirts and drive one of the classy looking little yellow cars (it s a specialized fancy go-cart). Just join our unit and get involved with our activities. We offer a positive, friendly and fun family environment to enrich your Shrine experience, and we love doing parades. If any Noble would like more information or to test drive one of our cool looking yellow cars, all you have to do is let us know. Don t be bashful; you can contact President Frank Treadaway at (817) , Colonel Cecil LeMond at (817) , or really, any of our members. We are a VERY proud bunch of fellas and will be happy to talk to you about our unique unit. According to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, the proper etiquette required to eat a hotdog is to finish the hot dog in five bites. In the case of a foot-long wiener, seven bites are appropriate. Across the United States, consumers spent Chuck Huddleston, Car-Vettes 19
Bedouins Bedouins Out and About! Bedouins winning TSA Tyler: June 6th through June 9th We had a great turnout for TSA, and as usual, the Bedouins brought style and fun of all types to Tyler. The Hospitality Room was something to behold, Mandy Hendry and the rest of the Entertainment committee really outdid themselves. June 23rd, the Bedouins were enjoying a unique Bedouin Night Out. Many of us went to Concert in the Gardens to see Music of Journey. It was just an all around great evening, great music, great fun with our Bedouin Family. Plus, the show ended with some awesome fireworks show. The Bedouins will be on Parade this month in Granbury for the annual 4th of July parade, so come out and join us for a great time and continuing to get the Fez out there. Caliph Chris 20
Flying Fez Looking forward to all the upcoming Moslah Activities during the Summer months, Hope to see many of you there. Until next time, Flying Fez will continue Rolling for the Children. Kindest Regards, Robert Byrd, Deputy Commander What s Happening with Moslah Flying Fez Congratulations to Noble Steve Ledgerwood, the First Flying Fez Driver to record 100 trips to our Hospitals and Leonard Livingston, the Second Flying Fez Driver to reach this milestone. It may not be a World s Record, but it s Head and Shoulders above the average. We Drivers typically go to Shreveport, LA., Houston, TX., Missouri City, TX. and Galveston, TX. The Mileage is provided by Major Bud Merwin, Operations Officer for the Flying Fez. Round trip to Shreveport, 443 Miles, Round trip to Houston, 538 Miles, Round trip to Missouri City, 560 Miles and Round trip to Galveston 614 Miles. Now, if you add the four destinations (2155 Mi) and average the four destinations (Divided by 4) it s 539 Miles per trip times 100 trips. 53,900 Love To The Rescue Safe miles. We tip our Fez, to Nobles Steve Ledgerwood, and Len Livingston for their Outstanding performance as Drivers of the Moslah Shrine Flying Fez. It is really a feat to be admired, when you see Nobles Ledgerwood and Livingston, be sure and Thank them and offer Congratulations for this milestone. Not knowing exactly where either of these Nobles made each trip, I have given an average, if anything their total mileage would go up, but certainly would not be lowered and the overnight stays to have a child for early appointment or picking up a family early after surgery also factors into this wonderful feat. Thank you Major Bud Merwin, Operations Officer, of the Moslah Flying Fez for making us aware of the achievements of these fine Flying Fez Nobles, Steve Ledgerwood and Len Livingston. Directors Hello from the Directors. I am proud to announce that your Moslah Directors Unit won First Place in the Hot Stunt category at the Directors competition at TSA again this year. Now just because Moslah has gone dark for the summer, it doesn t mean that the Directors have gone dark as well. We are still meeting for work call every Tuesday evening during the summer getting ready for the Moslah Cornhole Tournament, Sportsmen s Spectacular, the Fall Ceremonial and the Circus! The Directors have work call for these and other Moslah Shrine projects every Tuesday. If you are a Noble who is not currently a member of a unit and would like to have a lot of fun and make a difference without breaking the bank, come out and visit us at work call. The Circus Building is located at 2000 Samuels Avenue, Fort Worth, Texas 76102, and we are always looking for new members. If you want more information, do not hesitate to contact me. Les Keeble, President Texas Shrine Association has come and gone. A great time was enjoyed by all. Moslah came, we competed and we Won. Congratulations to All Units, you represented Moslah very Well. Hope everyone had the opportunity to attend the Moslah Games Victory Night and show our appreciation and help celebrate the victories, at TSA. Remember Nobles, if you know a child that could benefit from care from our Hospitals and clinics, please refer them. We have so much to offer. Their Hope and Dreams are Our Cause. 21

Potentate s Column Continued from page 2 failing. This area needs success and effort more than any other endeavor we put forth. That is of course, membership. We set a goal for 35 new members for Currently we have 14 new members and 11 of the 14 are from reinstatements! Moreover, the Black Camel is hitting us hard as well with the loss of 39 Nobles. I have written in past newsletters and spoke often of how much we as a Fraternity have to offer. I will say again what I said last month. In these uncertain times, Masonry offers stability in an unstable world and assurance in an unsure society. By close attention to the tenants of Freemasonry, especially truth, relief, and brotherly love, Masonry affords men and their families the gift of an even larger extended family with which to celebrate victories and comfort in times of sadness. As noted above look at the 2018 success, the Shrine has even more to offer Men, their Ladies and families. So let s turn this around and get started TODAY! As pointed out in this newsletter, start using the IAMRU program as furnished by Imperial. I have called on the Units, Clubs and Associations to require every member of their Unit sign up at least one member. If you are not a member of a Unit please start using IAMRU today. Reach out to your Blue Lodge and get involved. They need help as well and you will bring help and ideas. They will bring Moslah new members! Get in touch with Cody Cox, our Moslah Membership Chairman. He needs help with phone committees, Lodge visits and public appearances. Our Membership committee needs your help today! Moslah is a first class, fun and exciting Temple. I believe in every one of our members and their Ladies that we can turn this course around quickly. Help me write our success story in the January newsletter and add MEMBERSHIP to the accomplishments we all achieve. Yours in the Faith, Jeff Barcafar Potentate-2018 Nobles All, Keeping your Moslah Shrine membership data current is important. It is now very easy and fast to check and update. Simply go to webfez.shrinenet. org/home/ dashboard. Click on Log In if you are already registered, or click Register and give your address as your code and make up a password. Then click on My Record. Now you can search your information and update anything that you might need to change. It s a good idea to do this at least twice a year to keep your records accurate. Thanks, John Henderson, Business Manager 23
