2 It s Trinity Church picnic time!! : Sunday August 2 Jackson Park (shelter near the community building and dog walk area) 10:30--Eucharist 11:30-Lunch Time Meat will be provided by the Men s Group, who will be staying up all night to roast a pig (and some chickens, too!). Please bring a covered dish to share, as well as your own chair. Plates, cups, utensils and soft drinks will be provided. The 10:30 Eucharist will include music with bag-piper Joe Quick, Allan Zipf at the keyboard, and Connie Bookman, violinist. Service of Holy Eucharist will be held, as usual, at Trinity at 8:00am. Bishop Michael Curry of North Carolina was elected in a vote by bishops at the Episcopal General Convention, the top legislative body of the church. Bishop Curry won among the bishops in a landslide, earning 121 votes. The other three candidates had 21 votes or less. The decision was affirmed on a vote of by the House of Deputies, the voting body of clergy and lay participants at the meeting. 3 Book Sale Outreach Thank You Notes Arriving!! The recipients of funds from the 2014 Book Sale have received their checks and they are most grateful, as always. We have decided to use these funds to update our supplies for the Splash Fun activities that we do every Friday during the summer. This is a large muscle activity that the children thoroughly enjoy every summer. Karen Williams Peterkin Camp and Conference Center - Peterkin has been a vital ministry of the Diocese for more than 60 years. It has shaped and formed people for ministry for all those years. 5 ~ Thank you ~ Choir returns August 30!! Singers in the congregation, high school age and older, are invited to join the choir this year. Singing in the choir gives parishioners a special opportunity to learn about our wonderful Anglican musical traditions, as well as the chance to work with a nationally respected director, our Choirmaster Dr. Daniel Monek. The choir rehearses each Sunday at 9:15 to prepare for the morning s service, with evening rehearsals (Wednesdays at 7:30) scheduled approximately every three weeks, schedule currently being developed. Come sing with us! The season begins in September, is typically held on the third Friday evening of the month, and can be held in a restaurant or hosted in your own home. Parishioners would then help by bringing a covered dish or by paying for their own meals at a restaurant. Consider signing up for this fun social evening! To the people of Trinity, Thank you so much for your continuing support of Reading Camp here at Good Shepherd. The recent check we received enables us to provide a wide assortment of resources for the children and their teachers so we have the greatest chance of capturing the interest of each child. 6 Notes from the Senior Warden Mark your calendars Picnic is coming (August 2) at Jackson Park in Vienna. All are welcome. Come early for the service and stay for the picnic. First, I d like to thank Father Bennett and Father Hicks for their outstanding coverage. I have a meeting with Bishop Klusmeyer, on August 4. I ll update, after the meeting. As of this letter, I don t foresee an immediate replacement in our future. But, all in all we re doing fine. We have coverage scheduled through September, and can make arrangements past that. Our budget is in the black. And, our programs are continuing. This hasn t gone unnoticed. Thank you to everyone that makes our church successful. The roof repair will continue. Asbestos was found in the bottom layer of the Trinity Hall roof. We re having it removed and the new roof will get back on track. Although the timing isn t great, we have the funds. This will help the long term health of the building. When the repairs are complete, we ll move to fix the water damage. Painting and plaster repair is scheduled to get underway by the end of August/early September; weather dependent. Good weather will allow the contractor to clear the jobs ahead of ours and be to ours on time. During this time, I d appreciate your support with a disruption. I think Father Bennett said it best Appreciate the Mystery. Michael Rauh Senior Warden MONDAY FEEDING PROGRAM In the month of June we served 631 meals, with a total of 51 helpers. We really appreciate our helpers, all volunteers, averaging about 9-12 each week, said program chairman Connie Warren. Of course, we can always use more! The Parish Family of Trinity Church extends its deepest sympathy and prayers to: ~ Betty Earl in the recent death of her mother Orva Parsons, who died at the age of 90 in Charleston. ~ Rest eternal grant to Orva, O Lord; And let light perpetual shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
