Survval Alter Death» The possblty of survval after death t> has ntrgued anknd fro the earlest ** days of recorded lfe. Prtve an had an ^dea that there would be an after lfe and jb the, Aercan Indan dreaed of the Happy I Huntng.Ground. * Modern ndvduals take for granted,,*upon relgous grounds, the survval of the ^ sprt after the death of the body. They baheve n ortalty but no atter how # strongly they beleve they do not have 'Aproof of t. \ Scence has set tself to the study of the possblty of provng ortalty. Whle no defnte proof has been adduced there s.lttle yet to dsprove the theory wdely held >yan. - In London, several years ago, there was jp begun a two-year nvestgaton of evdence to support survval after death. Recently the Dean of St. Paul's Cathedral^sclosed ^s belef and reported that the nvestga.had shown that after fraud., decet and fuson were dscounted there reaned, a Idu of establshed facts that suggested [^hypothess of survval. Just the sae, lere s no reason why scentsts should not "k to establsh the truth by scentfc ods, No har can be dono and soe loubts ght be reoved.. Do The Dutch Trust Htler? Edward van Kleffens, Foregn Mnster tbq Netherlands asks whether the te or the doctrne of ght s acadec. The streatent of the people of Poland and Czechoslovaka suggest* that lttle can be ganed unless there n a change n the otves that anate the natons that have becoe ltant aggressor* The Netherlands governent has had occason, twce wthn recent onths, to take ltary easures to safeguard te neutralty. Strangely enough the actvty of the governent was drected alost exclusvely to the protecton of ts fronter wth Gerany, suggestng that even Foregn Mnster van Kleffens has soe doubts about the peaceful ntentons of hs neghborng naton, under the leadershp of Herr Htler. If peace were possble, t would have to be condtoned on the pledged word of Htler and hs Geran assocates. If that word s worthy of confdence and trust, Upon whch peace ust bebased, then there s no need for the Netherlands to take any defensve easures aganst Geran nvason, Gerany has gven a pledge not to attack the Netherlands or Belgu. What Chldren t<*d Thg Whte House Conference on Chldren n a Deocracy estates that half of the naton's chldren belong to fales unable to lve decently and declares that the chld's greatest need s a real job at real wages for hs father and work opportuntes for hself when he grows up. The conclusons wll be derded, of course, by the he-en who profess great adraton for the "Aercan way' and ajd the old-fashoned vrtues of self-relance and ndvdual ntatve. The rugged ndvduals wll advocate teachng the chld to practce the vrtues that earned success n the past and, beng cofortable theselves, wll be wllng to st quetly untl the governng generaton solves ts proble. There was a te n the Unted States, f we can beleve what we are taught, when ndvduals could expect reasonable opportuntes for advanceent through ntellgent applcaton and soe hard perseverance. Wth llons of older en uneployed and workers outnuberng avalable jobs, the young an of today faces a dfferent condton. The class-book ottos wll not feed h or enable h to feed, hself. Intellgence By Ages And Sexes Dr. Frank In. Freean, of the Unversty of Calforna Sch6ol of Edftft^, recently conducted a test upon 2,88 pwsons n order to ascertan the ntellgence rato of varous ages and between the two sexes. He reports that the results ndcate that a person's ntellectual capabltes do not declne after he s forty, f he uses those capabltes. Whle the average person ay show a lttle decrease n speed, no substantal dfference s noted n real ntellectual accoplshents. Regardng the two sexes he reports that hg test faled to substantate the opnon that there s a dfference. Although the en happened to have a, slghtly hgher score, he explaned that the fractonal dfference was "probably due to accdent." Htler Proses War Herr Htler proses Great Brtan and France the war they have asked for. He stll poses as a seeker of peace. Ths pose s repeated after the recent revelaton of the outrages n Poland and Czechoslovaka, where thousands of helpless people have been pressed nto labor servce and a nubar are reported to have been slan. Htler's publc atttudes see so unreasonable on the bass of hs brutalty to other peoples that one ust accept the concluson that nobody counts n hs thnkng except Gerans, or that the s a hopeless lunatc. In ether event, he s a dangerous an to be runnng at large wth a war achne as fordable as that of Gerany.
