1 TIMOTHY CLUB K1 TO P3 NOV/DEC HOLIDAY PROGRAMME CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN Date: 12/13 Deceber 2015 Prograe: Christas Sharing CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN OVERVIEW Over these two weeks, we will be helping the children to prepare for Christas in their hearts. Much preparation is done to prepare for parties, or buy presents, but as we reeber the gift of God s Son Jesus for each of us, we prepare ourselves spiritually to celebrate the true eaning of this season. 5/6 Dec: Showing kindness to others during this Christas season Pray for others to coe for Christas Nepal encourageent card Advent Acts of Kindness and Advent Calendar craft 12/13 Dec: Nativity Scene Creation & Storytelling Lesson Objective: The children will know how to share the story of Christas with others, using different aids. 2 THE WONDER OF CHRISTMAS PUBLICITY ANNOUNCEMENT (15 ins) [TLs, please refer to the eail for further details and instructions] PLATFORM TEACHING (15 ins) [slide] Soe failies favorite things to do during Christas is to drive down Orchard Road at night to see the Christas lights. Did any of you see the Orchard Road decorations this year? What were soe of the things that you saw? What are soe coon decorations that you see during Christas tie? [allow children to respond, tinsel, lights, Christas tree, glass balls, stars, red and green flowers (poinsettias)] Many shopping alls have flashy lights, and big Christas trees, and only one that I know of will use Bible verses in their decorations. [slide Blessed are those who dwell in your house] Another coon thing that we see during Christas tie, is soe of us receive Christas cards with well wishes for the new year. [slide Christas cards] In the idst of all of this, we want to reeber one iportant thing, that Jesus is the reason for the season! Everything that we do for our Christas celebrations, we want to ake sure that we reeber that Christas is all about Jesus, and also use it as an opportunity to tell people the good news that Jesus has coe! We are going to do that using this! [slide of candy cane and M&Ms] We are going to create Christas cards that point to the real eaning of Christas and also bless the person who you give the card to a sweet treat. In last week s advent calendar, one of the ites that you re supposed to do is to ake a Christas card for soeone. This could be the card that you ake for the. Your sall group leaders will share with you ore! So we ve covered Christas cards, but what about Christas decorations? How do we bring Jesus into our Christas decorations? [slide variety of nativity scene] Have any of you ever seen soething like this? This is called a nativity scene and it is a decoration that people put at hoe to reeber Jesus birth! They aren t easy to find nowadays, but today each one of you is going to custoize your very own nativity scene that you can use to decorate your hoe! [show slides] Reeber that this Christas we want to share the best gift that anyone could receive, which is the good news about Jesus! Let e pray for you and then we will split into our sall groups. Dear Lord, thank You for Christas that we have a reason to celebrate Jesus birth. I pray that You will use these cards that we will ake, and the nativity scene that we will decorate to point the way to You. May any people coe to know You Lord Jesus. In Your nae we pray, aen! 2

3 SMALL GROUP TIME (60 ins) Activity 1 Sweet Sharing Christas Cards (30 ins) We will be creating special sweet-theed Christas cards that are also eaningful and point to the real eaning of Christas. The cards will coe with a candy, but please encourage the children to give these cards to soeone else to be a blessing. Instructions Candy Cane Card Show the candy cane to the children Leader to say: do you know that there is a eaning to each part of the candy cane that points to Jesus? o The candy cane has red stripes, which represent the blood that Jesus bled for us on the Cross o It has white stripes too, which represent that when we know Jesus, He forgives our sin and akes us clean, white like snow o If you turn the candy cane, it looks like a J, that stands for Jesus o If you turn the candy cane the other way, it looks like a shepherd s staff and that reinds us that Jesus is our Shepherd and we are His sheep! Do a quick recap with the children to see if they understand Distribute the printed A4 sheets to the children Guide the to fill in the blanks using a black peranent arker Use double sided tape to stick the candy cane to the card RED WHITE JESUS STAFF SHEPHERD Instructions M&M Christas Poe Read the poe to the children and use the print out of the M&M candy to show the how the candy could have an M, a W, an E and a 3. As you hold these candies in your hand and turn the you will see The M becoes a W, an E and then a 3 E is for the East where the star shone so bright M is for the anger where the baby Jesus slept at night 3 is for the wiseen, bear gifts with which they cae W is for worship, hallelujah! Guide the to fill in the circles with shapes, in different orientations They can colour in the circles using arkers or colour pencils Distribute one pack of M&Ms per child at the end of the service, for the to give to soeone together with the card 3

4 Transition: One part of sharing the good news of Christas is to give Christas cards that point the way to Jesus, and another way we can do that is by using eaningful Christas decorations like the nativity scene set that we are going to create. Activity 2 Christas Nativity Decoration Set (30 ins) Logistics: A3 nativity scene (for P1-3), A4 nativity scene (for K1-2), arkers The children will be guided to colour in the characters in the nativity scene, and will learn about the Christas story as they do so. If you have older children who are already failiar with the Christas story, you can instead ask the to tell you who the characters are, and decide as a group which characters to colour in first. They can also take turns to tell the story as a group, with each person adding one sentence to the story. Step 1: Introduce the Nativity scene This is the nativity scene that you will each receive. Because we want to also help you to use this to tell the Christas story with people who see your beautiful decoration, I want you to colour in the nativity scene together at the sae tie as everyone. Step 2: Joseph & Mary Based on Luke 2:4-5 Joseph went to his own town to be counted in the list of people. He went fro the town of Nazareth to Bethlehe, the town of David. Joseph went there because he belonged to the faily line of David. He went there with Mary to be listed. Mary was engaged to hi. She was expecting a baby. Did you know that it is 111k between Nazareth and Bethlehe. That is about 3 ties fro one end of Singapore to the other end! That s pretty far to travel in those days when there were no cars or planes! Instruction to children: Colour in the figures of Joseph & Mary. 4

5 Step 3: Jesus, Manger and Stable Based on Luke 2:6-7 While Joseph and Mary were there, the tie cae for the child to be born. She gave birth to her first baby. It was a boy. She wrapped hi in large strips of cloth. Then she placed hi in a anger. That s because there was no guest roo where they could stay. Instruction to children: Colour in Jesus, the anger and the shelter. Step 4: Shepherds, Sheep and Angel Based on Luke 2:8-16 There were shepherds living out in the fields nearby. It was night, and they were taking care of their sheep. An angel of the Lord appeared to the. And the glory of the Lord shone around the. They were terrified. But the angel said to the, Do not be afraid. I bring you good news. It will bring great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you. He is the Messiah, the Lord. Here is how you will know I a telling you the truth. You will find a baby wrapped in strips of cloth and lying in a anger. Suddenly a large group of angels fro heaven also appeared. They were praising God. They said, May glory be given to God in the highest heaven! And ay peace be given to those he is pleased with on earth! The angels left and went into heaven. Then the shepherds said to one another, Let s go to Bethlehe. Let s see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about. So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph and the baby. The baby was lying in the anger. Instruction to children: Colour in the shepherds, the sheep and the angel. Step 5: Magi & Cael Based on Matthew 2:1-11 After Jesus birth, Wise Men fro the east cae to Jerusale. They asked, Where is the child who has been born to be king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose. Now we have coe to worship hi. The star they had seen when it rose went ahead of the. It finally stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were filled with joy. The Wise Men went to the house. There they saw the child with his other Mary. They bowed down and worshiped hi. Then they opened their treasures. They gave hi gold, frankincense and yrrh. Instruction to children: Colour in the wise en and the cael. For younger K1-2 children, you can use the tie at the end to ask the siple questions about the story that they have just learned about. 5

6 SMALL GROUP PRAYER (15 ins) Ask the children about the people they have invited for The Wonder of Christas. List out the naes and pray for the children invited by nae. Pray that God will guide the children to give the Christas cards and invitations to the people whose spirits are open to hear and receive and believe the good news! Ask the children if they or their faily ebers have any needs that the sall group can pray for. Pray for the children who indicate that prayer is needed for the or their faily. Close in prayer by blessing the children to have a fun and faith-filled tie as they share the good news of Christas with those around the. 6
