Rotary Foundation We still have 49 members (70%), for $5, (71%) of our goal, (including lunch tips). We have only a couple of months left to make the challenge of 70 members for $7,000. Please look at your badge, and if you do not have a sticker, please join us! Spring is here! Duck Race Health Good Wishes Jack has had his cast removed, and a boot has taken its place. He will now be able to take baby steps. We miss his smiling face, and Happy $, for the Husky Women s team. We expect to see him soon. Hurry back, Jack! Kurt will keep you informed, and Adoption Certificates will be available soon. For the first time, we are able to give cash prizes (thanks to the untiring, 14 year efforts by Jeanne Garvey Stax)! We will continue with the 1st place prize of a BIG screen TV (50 HD Plasma Zenith), and 2nd place will be a Pot of Gold ($500 in Dollar coins). Complete list of prizes will be forthcoming. We need every member to help, not only placing ducks for adoption, but in the actual running of the race. See Kurt for the sign up sheet for your assignment Save the date! Community Service Awards We presented our annual Community Service Awards March 18, at the MAXX. Our recipients, Joann Lillis and Herman Izzard were honored for their many years of community service. They received their awards, State and Town Proclamations and we made a donation of $100 to each their favorite charities. See pictures page 4. 2 2 Student of the Month Month March Thaddeus Diamond is our Student of the Month for March. Rob and his Math Teacher, David Shaffer (far right), welcomed and congratulated him. His father, Jonathan, and mother, Anne, were also our guests. Thaddeus was Salutatorian at the end of his Junior year, has a 3.88 GPA, a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, and has received the Prudential Spirit of Community Award, and Kodak Young Leaders Award. He is a member of the Hugh O Brien Youth Leadership program, the United Way Youth Leadership Program, and a NAMES program facilitator. He plans a career as a surgeon or investment banker. PAGE 2 Programs At our March 4 meeting, President Peter presented a check for $10,000 to Pat Clark, and Executive Director Stephen Woods, of the American Red Cross. The check represents half of the net proceeds from our golf tournament. Pat and Stephen brought us up to date on the programs and problems facing The Red Cross. Annabel Stehli, of The Georgiana Institute, was our guest March 11. She told us about music therapy for autism. She is the author of Sound of a Miracle & Silver Linings, and Editor of Dancing in the Rain & Sound of Falling Snow For more info, she can be reached at: georgianainstitute@snet.net Raffle Prizes KMarch 25, Margo Clark, of CL&P, joined us, to talk about energy efficiency for home and business. She distributed folders, explaining more efficient bulbs, insulation, and plugging up the many ways that we waste electricity. Thank you to Kathy Gold for five nice raffle prizes. We would still welcome any more donations of raffle prizes for our lunch meetings. If you have anything to donate, please let President Peter or Charlie know. Thank you!

3 3 PAGE 3 Group Study Exchange We are hosting the Group Study Exchange Team from Sweden starting April 12. Cathy Setterlin is doing a great job of coordinating their itinerary: Saturday April 12, at 6:00- Welcoming potluck dinner at Bob Mullen s house. Spouses, friends and family are welcome. Please let Cathy know that you are attending, and what you are bringing. Sunday April 13, at 2:00 PM Canoe or Kayak on the Bantam River, with GSE Team Cathy needs canoes or Kayaks Please let her know at cathysetterlin@aol.com or Tuesday April 15 GSE Team presentation at our weekly meeting. There are other activities during the week that club members can join in. Cathy will keep us informed. This is one of those opportunities that only comes every few years, so come out to meet and support them. Special Guests Brittany joined us for lunch, just before heading on vacation, to Belize. Her parents joined her for sun and fun! It s always nice to have her smiling face with us! Art Klein, who introduced the new program, last year, will direct the program again. The event was a great community service program, as well as an excellent fund raiser. Spread the word, and box up those old records that you have been saving, and get ready. (see flyer page 6). We finally got to meet and welcome Ivan s friend, Andre Barshay. Andre has just returned from military service in Afghanistan, and Ivan has been paying happy dollars every week, for his return! The Four-Way Test Of the things we think, say or do: 1. 4 4 Community Service Awards PAGE 4 President Peter, and Lori, who recommended Herman Izzo, present him with a plaque and a check for $100 to the Concerned Black Men (a mentoring program). Joann Lillis receives her plaque and check for $100 to New Milford Public Library, and Carl is proud that he recommended Joann. Mayor Pat Murphy presented Herman and Joann with proclamations from the Town of New Milford, and The State of Connecticut. We are so proud, once again to honor these unheralded servants of our community. Their names will join our past honorees on the Master Plaque on the 1st floor wall of the Town Hall. PAGE 5 Julie Reppenhagen, Past President of the Danbury Sunrise Club, bride of Charlie, and grandmother of Miss Lilly, has been selected as District Governor Nominee for District Nancy and Lori induct and welcome our newest member, Francis Okelo. Bonnie, who sponsored Francis, joins in the welcome. Francis is a retired United Nations Special Envoy. He and his wife, Maliam, live in New Milford. Welcome!
