At the BDBA meeting in August it was decided to give our current realtors a 30 day notice to end our contract with them and look for a new realtor. That would maybe bring new life and effort into getting our property sold. I know this is a frustrating time for all of us who have enjoyed the Council Activities for the past 75 years. We will not have a Family Night in August or September but, October brings the news of our Annual Council Picnic which we are planning to have on Saturday October 4th from 2:00 PM until?:?? I would like to see everyone attend and enjoy the fellowship we are accustomed to when we get together. In order to be able to buy food and drinks responsibly, there will be a sign up sheet at the September Business Meeting. Please sign up and list how many will be in your group. Anyone not attending the Business Meeting can call me at and RSVP by Thursday, September 25th. If I m not home just leave a message on the answering machine. We are trying to avoid having a lot of leftovers since we have no place to keep them. We have asked the Ladies Auxiliary to provide deserts for the picnic. The next Garage/Indoor sale is going to be on Friday September 26th and Saturday the 27th. We will need all hands on board to make this a success, and we need it to be successful. The ladies are going to meet on the September 25th to get things in order and ready for the sale. I want to thank the Ladies for all they have done and will do helping us with this huge project. Your time and work is greatly appreciated. PS: ANYONE THAT HAS BORROWED ANYTHING FROM THE HALL AND HAS NOT RETUNED IT IS BEING ASKED TO RETURN IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

4 Historical Sketch Of Bishop Dunne Council 2813 A series of articles is being published in the September and October Council Bulletin s on the history of Bishop Dunne Council its formation and "dream years". The series will be entitled: "Recollection of Our Early History and The First Council Hall and Post War Years", "Purchase and Construction of Council 2813 Hall on Columbus Trail" and "Highlights of Accomplishments as Council 2813 Approaches Its Diamond Jubilee - 75 Years of Active Service - December 10, December 10, 2014." ***************************************************************************** Recollection of Our Early History During the late months of 1938, 40 members of Council 759 considered the formation of a new council on the south side of Fort Worth. Approval was given by the Supreme Council in the summer of 1939 for Council After much deliberation, the Council was named Bishop Dunne (in honor of one of the first Bishops of the old Dallas-Fort Worth diocese) - Bishop Dunne Council Active life formally began on December 10, 1939 at the old Texas Hotel with seventy-five Charter Members. A year later, meetings were being held in the basement of the old Laneri High School, and in 1941 plans for a new Council hall on South Adams Street were underway. The First Council Hall and Post-War Years In 1941, after holding its meetings in the basement of the old Laneri High School for almost two years, Bishop Dunne Council 2813 began a search for property. With the population growth of Fort Worth moving to the south side, four lots were purchased at 417 South Adams Street for $4, and the construction of a new hall was underway. The financing for the hall was handled by the K.J.T. (Catholic Union of Texas) a Czech fraternal organization, and $5, worth of non-interest bearing bonds being sold to the membership. The building was a Quonset hut and served the Council well for its meetings, bingo and other Council activities. During the war years, Council 2813 had its "ups" and "downs", but the faith and dedication of its members never diminished. With membership continuing to increase, the Council had outgrown its present site, and a search and plans for a new Council hall began. "Purchase and Construction of Council Hall 2813 on Columbus Trail" will be continued in the October bulletin. Church Jack Kearney, PGK Our September Pro-Life Mass will be on Monday, September 22nd, at St. Francis Village Chapel. The Mass will be preceded by the Rosary at 7:05 PM with the Mass at 7:30 PM. Refreshments will be served after Mass. A Knights of Columbus Mass is celebrated at St. Bartholomew Church each month on the fourth Sunday. The next Mass is September 28th at 11:00 AM. We ask all brother Knights of St. Bartholomew Parish to please attend and sit together. We also ask our Knights from other parishes to start their own monthly KC Mass.

5 Pro-Life Jack Kearney, PGK May 13, 2014, marked one year since Philadelphia abortion Doctor Kermit Gosnell was convicted of first-degree murder in the deaths of three babies who were delivered alive and then killed with scissors at his grimy, house of horrors clinic, according to the Associated Press. Doctor Gosnell instantly became the face of abortion in the prolife community. But there s another, more recognizable face pushing abortion in the United States - liberal billionaire Warren Buffett. The so-called Oracle of Omaha has donated more than $1.2 billion to abortion organizations from 2001 to That s equal to the cost of roughly 2.7 million first-trimester abortions - more than twice the number of abortions that occur in an entire year in the United States. Unlike Doctor Gosnell, however, everything Buffett has done has been entirely legal. But Buffett does share something else in common with the abortionist. Both their stories have been largely unreported. Imagine the equivalent of the lives of 2.7 million children snuffed out to serve the whims of the third richest man in the world. Also, for our Brother Knights, their wives or their family members that have passed away, please notify me so a Gate Fold of Spiritual Union of Perpetual Adoration can be given to surviving family members. A Sympathy card was sent to Melissa Reljac (Wife of Brother Mark Reljac) on the occasion of the death of her brother Ray Pierce. Ladies Auxiliary Georgia Miller The Ladies Auxiliary will have a meeting on Thursday, September 25th, at the Community Center located across from the Southwest High School at Altamesa and Welch Streets. The meeting will start at 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM (The Center closes at 8:00 PM so our meeting will be short). We have several items we need to discuss and plan for the remainder of the year. Refreshments will be provided. Please plan to come - this will be our first "get-together" since the luncheon in June. Looking forward to seeing "all of you". Council Mark Reljac At the August Business Meeting, the Council elected Bill Miller, PGK as our Trustee - 2nd Year, and to fill his spot as Outside Guard, the Council elected Ramon (Ed) Queza. 7 Knights of Columbus Texas State Golf Tournament The 40th Annual Johnny Lopez Knights of Columbus State of Texas Open Golf Championship is being hosted by the Texas State Council and the Bastrop Knights of Columbus Council # The tournament will be held the weekend of September 19, 20 and 21, 2014 at two different golf courses, Pine Forest Golf Club and Colo Vista Golf Club. The Knights did play Pine Forest Golf Club back in 2008 which is the last time the tournament was in Bastrop, Texas. Pine Forest Golf Club will also host the Friday, September 19th, scramble golf tournament, which has a 1:00 PM shotgun start. The Saturday and Sunday individual tournament play will be played at both the Pine Forest Golf Club and the Colo Vista Golf Club, with 8:00 AM shotgun start both mornings. With an 8:00 AM shotgun start golfers are asked to be at their assigned golf course no later than 7:30 AM so we can start our pretournament prayer and announcements. Registration for the Friday Scramble and the Saturday/Sunday Individual Tournament will be held at Pine Forest Golf Club starting at 9:30 AM Friday morning and continuing until 5:30 PM Friday evening. Late registration will be held at both golf courses on Saturday morning 6:30 to 7:30 AM. The entry fee for the scramble is $70.00 per golfer and the entry fee for the individual two day tournament in $ per golfer, and if you sign up to play all three days your entry fee will be $ Your entry fee must accompany the registration form. Please make checks payable to K of C State Athletic Fund. The entry deadline for the State Golf Tournament is August 16th. Unfortunately the tournament is limited to the first 220 paid golfers. Please pass along the word! Be sure to complete all the information requested on the tournament entry form, including Council, Flight, Division, and Membership Numbers. Incomplete forms will delay your entry. For those of you who may not ever played or have not played in one of Knights of Columbus State Golf Tournaments within the past five years, to establish a handicap for our tournament you will need to submit a copy of your club handicap card or two score cards from two separate rounds of golf on a 18-hole golf course. For those of you who played within the past five years we will have a handicap on record for you.
